I don’t want to be a party pooper here, but things like this make me cringe. A pet is a lifetime commentment (for the life of the pet). Far too many “Christmas puppies” end up as “shelter dogs” by March. Further, some of the kids’ behavior around their new pet is deplorable. Any kid that screamed as loud as some of them did would get a serious swat on the ass from me, were they my kids.

That's all too true, all too often.

It all depends on the character of the people who gift small helpless creatures.

That's why I saved the 12YO golden getting a puppy till last.

We got our two bullador puppies as gifts for our old dog. I had no idea she would leave us six months after the puppies got here, but those two puppies gave her a happy conclusion to her life. She was miserable as an only dog because she had never been alone her whole life. She did not die as an only dog.

Could Dennis have seen a different You Tube than I did, in the first post? The older boy was overtaken with emotion, as he cried for joy, at seeing a puppy in the box. It actually brought me to tears, to see him so happy that it made him cry! I felt the You Tube was very touching!

I agree. Our pup was a present to a 15 year old girl. He was hated by the father because he said he was allergic, tormented by the 9 year old brother, ignored most of the time by the daughter because she couldn't remember to feed him, and the mother just got tired of taking care of him. So we saved him and he is so sweet but has many problems because of his early life. These little souls deserve to in a home where they are loved and protected. They are not just cute toys.
