Praying for everyone who is sick. My brother, in Arizona for the winter, is recovering from this or something like it.

Praying for others who have this.

I am on day 3 or 4 without food. Hubby on day 2 with no food.
We are both able to keep liquids down now.

Susan, hoping you might be able to sip some broth, that might give you a bit of strength. When I had Noro in March, it was a struggle to eat anything the first week. Broth helped a bit. I would walk a few steps, then have to sit cause I felt like passing out.

    Praying for your continued recovery.

I sipped some broth. Thought I was doing a bit better, and the lower end started again. Looks black. (sorry) We both hit the doctor tomorrow.

If you've taken any pepto bismol, dark stools are normal. But it can also mean "old" blood (from higher up in the digestive tract), so I think a doctor's visit is a good idea.

This is a situation where I'd be using licorice root capsules or tea. It's a potent anti-inflammatory, and in general, severe diarrhea involves severe inflammation of the lining of the gut. In calves, it can often end up causing permanent damage where they end up not being able to absorb nutrients...they end up as "poor doers". Once I discovered licorice root, we never lost another calf to scours ( what we call diarrhea in young animals)

Be aware that it works like a steroid, so people with kidney issues or hypertension need to be careful. However, the effective dosage is 2-4 capsules (500 mg capsules) 2-3x a day until symptoms resolve, generally within a couple days... and that is a very low dose, and unlikely to cause issues for most.

I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Summerthyme I wonder why bismuth causes the black stool? Mine is just runny again too. I already have clothes that will go in the trash. It doesn't help that I have lupus, sjogrens, etc.

My son and his wife have been sick - each of them for a week now. It's hitting every where. Keep your hands away from your face and wash your hands often. Stay out of emergency rooms unless you absolutely have to be there!

I haven't gotten it yet but I'm sure I will as my immune system is weakened by having pneumonia EVERY YEAR for the LAST 4 YEARS. I work in a courthouse and those courtrooms are nothing but petri dishes. To try and stave this crap off, I've been taking EmergenC, Astragalus Supreme capsules and just cracked open a bottle of
SAMBUCOL Elderberry Syrup that expired in 2016. It's been kept in a cool basement. Hope it is still *worthy,* and I ordered some Oregano oil and pills.

Made my own elderberry syrup today. In a pot put 3 Quarts of clean water. Add 1/2 cup of Black or Blue dried elderberries, one cinnamon stick, and three cloves. Bring to a boil and then put on simmer for about 30 to 35 minutes. I then crushed down the elderberries with a wooden spoon to extract all the juice I could. Pour through a strainer and add one cup of real honey. Far more powerful and way cheaper to make than buy. You can keep it in the frig for about 3 months. Take a teaspoon a day for health and dose yourself with a tablespoon when sick. Currently using it because I have this crud in my sinuses.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but charcoal capsules are very good for diarrhea. They do not cure the virus but the charcoal absorbs the poison the virus emits that causes all the problems. Old Amish trick that I was told.

Praying for you Abdon to get over this soon.

They are making us wait until 1:00p.m. to get in at the clinic, but it may be due to their own travel problems.

Got in to see the doctor. They were wearing masks to protect themselves today. Got shots for stomach flu, and told how bad it is going around along with the regular flu, which is only showing up two strains they said when they test.

Thanks for all of your prayers, and still praying for all.

I use Summerthyme's method for syrup and don't boil the berries. I just heat them up and squeeze out the juice. I just might add cinnamon and cloves next time. Sounds great!

SuElPo, Feel better soon! What kind of shots do they give for the stomach flu? I'm guessing stomach flu = gastroenteritis, which is a virus, right? Wouldn't they give Tamiflu for that?

Until we could get to pharmacy one shot was for nausea, and the other for inflammation.

Not to drift the thread, and I thought about mentioning it when I read Bubble Head's post, but it's strongly advisable to NOT boil or otherwise overheat the elderberries (or the juice) if you want to preserve the medicinal properties.

Many of my relatives have had this and one co-worker. My wife woke up early this morning and is the sickest I've ever seen her in the 15+ years we've been together. She seemed fine last night before bed. My wife doesn't handle illness well at all and I'm scared she won't drink water and will get dehydrated.
