And now, for no particular reason, what is your favorite ballad?

For some reason this morning, the name “Burl Ives” popped into my head unbidden. I remembered as a very young kid going to a little diner in the Hollywood District in Portland, and playing “Little Bitty Tear” over and over. I remember it was on the Decca (rainbow colored) label. I was mesmerized by the label spinning around, and captivated by the song. Ives’ voice was the smoothest and most moving of any performer I’ve heard in my life. Anyway, with his name in my head, I pulled up the song and listened to it about 5 times. Before I forgot (and I WILL forget), I wanted to share the song with you all.

I also figured “What the hey, why not ask folks to post their own favorite ballads from years ago?” So, you have a task for the day - lol.

And now, Burl Ives, Little Bitty Tear

North to Alaska by Johnny Horton - he sang many ballads of the Old West. We go to Alaska every year and will be going again in May 2018, this time to Denali. My dream is to see the Northern Lights.

The Carpenters - Little Altar Boy.
