    CNBC director accused of spying on teenage nanny with bathroom cam

    A CNBC director who worked on finance guru Suze Orman’s show has been accused of peeping on his teenage au pair with a spy-cam in a bathroom of his Westchester home, the Daily News has learned.

    Dan Switzen, 44, hid a camera inside a tissue box in his home in Pleasantville, according to authorities.

    On Nov. 13, his 18-year-old live-in nanny invited two of her friends, also 18, over to the house and one of them discovered the camera in the bathroom, sources said.

    The horrified teens took the camera to Pleasantville police about 7:50 p.m. that night and cops found incriminating images on its memory card.

    Cops secured a search warrant, then arrested Switzen on a felony count of unlawful surveillance.

    “He intentionally installed a video recording device in a tissue box located in his family’s bathroom to surreptitiously view a person dressing or undressing...at a place and time when (the victim) had a reasonable expectation of privacy without (her) knowledge or consent,” the complaint filed in Pleasantview Village Court reads.

    Switzen was released without bail, said his lawyer, Jeffrey Chartier.

    “He's a very decent family man. I don't want to litigate these allegations in the press,” Chartier said. “We will defend him accordingly.”

    When reached over the phone, Switzen said, “No comment at all. Thanks, bye,” before hanging up.

    Switzen directed “The Suze Orman Show” on CNBC for more than a decade, and was most recently listed as a director for the network’s “Power Lunch” program.

    A CNBC spokeswoman declined to comment on Switzen’s arrest.

    The one thing preventing a total DC meltdown is the fact "they" are refusing to release the names of the politicians involved in the sexual harassment, etc payouts. "They" are releasing the actual dollar amounts, as "they" did a couple of days ago with an additional 1.5 million dollars. "They" are fighting tooth and nail to keep the actual names from being released. I think this will be the next "big battle," over sexual harassment in DC. When the actual names are released, I think we will see a whole bunch, some leaks are saying up to 50 DC politicians being "outed." In this environment there is no way any politician, Republican or Democrat, can survive being exposed as a sexual harasser who made cash settlements with their victims. Obviously, "they" realize this, and this is why the wagons are being circled. My personal opinion is if the names aren't released by November of 2018, ie the election, this will become a major campaign issue for any incumbent.

    Yep, the dikes are leaking. It is only a matter of time before they overflow and the politicians are outed.

    Prenda Law's Steele disbarred; six other IL lawyers also disbarred, nine suspended, IL Supreme Court says
    by Jonathan Bilyk
    May 19, 2017

    John L. Steele, a Chicago lawyer already indicted for his role in the Prenda Law shakedown scheme targeting downloaders of online porn, has been disbarred.

    On May 19, the Illinois Supreme Court announced its action against Steele, as well as six others who were disbarred by the court in attorney disciplinary orders handed down May 18. The court also suspended nine other attorneys and censured or reprimanded six more.

    In March, Steele, 45, had pleaded guilty in Minnesota federal court to charges of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and conspiracy to launder money. A release from the U.S. Department of Justice announcing Steele’s guilty plea, indicated Steele had most recently lived in Pennsylvania.

    Steele had been indicted in December 2016 along his former law partner Paul Hansmeier, of Minnesota.

    The indictment came as Steele also faced professional disciplinary actions in Illinois. The criminal and professional actions against Steele arose out of his actions through the firms of Steele Hansmeier PLLC, Prenda Law and other associated business entities to use the courts to allegedly orchestrate “an elaborate scheme to fraudulently obtain millions of dollars in copyright lawsuit settlements by deceiving state and federal courts throughout the country,” according to federal prosecutors.

    Steele and Hansmeier, with former law partner Paul Duffy, who is now deceased, launched their practice in 2011, centered on amassing relatively small settlements – typically amounting to a few thousand dollars per settlement – from an array of people around the country accused of illegally downloading copyrights online pornographic videos and movies, the rights to which the Prenda partners had acquired through several sham business entities incorporated in the West Indies.

    According to court documents, Steele and his Prenda partners would use the courts’ subpoena power to learn the names of people who had downloaded the porn content, and then allegedly extort settlement money from them in exchange for dropping the suit and allowing the targets to avoid “enormous financial penalties and public embarrassment.”

    In all, the Justice Department said Steele has admitted to using these tactics to extract settlements worth at least $6 million from those targeted through the Prenda lawsuits.

    In announcing Steele’s disbarment, the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission – the state body which oversees attorney discipline matters in Illinois – said Steele, who had been licensed in Illinois since 2007, was disbarred “on consent.”

    Also on May 19, the Illinois Supreme Court announced it has disbarred Chicago lawyer Richard C. Moenning.

    As the state ARDC launched disciplinary proceedings against him, Moenning also had been hit with an action from the Illinois Attorney General’s office, alleging he had failed to register a charitable trust with the Attorney General and failing to provide the state with annual reports, accounting for hundreds of thousands of dollars left by two elderly sisters after their deaths in 2008 and 2010. Moenning had served as trustee of the trust.

    Moenning had been licensed to practice law since 1962.

    The Illinois ARDC said Moenning had “paid himself over $360,000 in purported fees without performing sufficient services to justify the payment of the funds” and had either taken “years to notify or pay some of the trust beneficiaries” or had failed to pay some beneficiaries altogether.

    He had been suspended since June 2016.

    On May 18, the Illinois Supreme Court also disbarred attorney Alecia M. Schmuhl, of Warrenville. Schmul has pleaded guilty to partnering with her husband, attorney Andrew Schmuhl, to kidnap and torture a partner in her former law firm in Virginia, from which she had been fired. Andrew Schmuhl has also been suspended on an interim basis and until further order of the court, the ARDC said.

    Others disbarred on May 18 included:

    Francis J. Coyle Jr., of Rock Island, who the ARDC said had “intentionally misappropriated” $100,000 in a real estate deal;
    Craig A. Goode, of Chicago, who the ARDC said had “misrepresented the status” of litigation pending in federal and state courts to a client, had “submitted charges for work he did not do” and then “continued to use the client’s credit card number” after the client fired him;
    Laird J. Heal, of Sterling, Mass., who had also been disbarred in Massachusetts for “misusing over $13,000 of funds held in escrow in connection with a bankruptcy case;” and
    Irina Pavchinskaya, of Glenview, who had pleaded guilty to felony theft for allegedly presenting a fraudulent check for $1,960 purportedly from her law firm employer, as well as for allegedly forging other checks from her employer.
    In addition to the disbarments, the Illinois Supreme Court also announced it had suspended nine other attorneys.
    In addition to Andrew Schmuhl, those suspended include:

    William J. Meacham, of Edwardsville, suspended on an interim basis and until further order of the court, for allegedly misappropriating $32,000 of a client’s personal injury settlement funds, and then creating “false receipts falsely purporting to show that he had distributed most of the funds to the client;”
    Baltazar Mendoza, of Chicago, interim basis and until further order of the court, for allegedly misappropriating more than $243,000 from several clients;
    Debra J. Fickler, of Tonganoxie, Kan., 3 years, as reciprocal discipline after she had been similarly suspended from law practice in Kansas;
    Diana M. Wilkins, of Chicago, 2 years and until further order of the court, for allegedly misappropriating nearly $22,000 in client funds and making false statements to the ARDC during the subsequent investigation;
    Dennis B. Porick, of Joliet, 18 months for allegedly converting more than $10,000 from three separate clients who he represented in collection matters;
    Jeffrey M. Isaacson, of Deerfield, one year and until further order of the court, with suspension stayed after six months;
    Jay L. Miller, of Barrington, one year and until further order of the court, for allegedly converting about $85,000 of client funds; and
    Dalton Grief, of Addison, 9 months.
    The Illinois Supreme Court also either censured or reprimanded six other attorneys, including: Mark E. Broadus, of Chicago; Dmitry N. Feofanov, of Lyndon; Walter L. Henderson, of Tucson, Ariz.; Karlo M. Karacic, of Chicago; George Krasnik, of Chicago; and Everett Walton, of Wailuku, Hawaii.

    Star’s former publisher accused of assaulting reporters in 1970s

    8 hrs ago

    A former Anniston Star reporter says that H. Brandt Ayers, chairman of the company that publishes the paper, sexually assaulted her in the 1970s in The Star’s newsroom.

    Veronica Pike Kennedy says Ayers, then the newspaper’s publisher, spanked her against her will in an incident on a Saturday, when Ayers and Kennedy were among the few workers in the building.

    “I was still determined to be a reporter after that,” Kennedy said. “But I hated Brandy Ayers with every cell in my body.”

    In response to inquiries from The Star on Monday morning, Ayers issued a statement.

    “As a very young man with more authority than judgment, I did some things I regret,” Ayers said in the statement. “At my advanced age I wish I could relive those days again, knowing the seriousness of my position and with the accumulated judgment that goes with age.”

    Two other women who worked at The Star at the time told similar stories of spankings by the Star publisher, though each declined to have their names published, citing repercussions the revelations might have for their careers and family members.

    They say a pattern of forced spankings by the publisher, with sexual overtones, led women in the newsroom at the time to seek help from the newspaper’s editors – who appointed a woman on staff to warn newly-hired women to watch out for Ayers.

    The allegations were first reported on the website Alabama Political Reporter, first in a column by Kennedy’s husband Joey Kennedy, and on Monday in detail in a longer article.

    Veronica Pike, an Anniston native and Wellborn High School graduate, was a Jacksonville State University student in her early 20s when she first came to work at The Star as a news clerk, answering phones, delivering messages and writing obituaries.

    She said she and another Star reporter were in the newsroom on a Saturday morning when Ayers, then the newspaper’s publisher, approached her asked her to read an article he’d written, then told her she’d “been a bad girl” and needed to be spanked.

    “I started laughing, because I thought it was the funniest thing I’d ever heard,” she said. Kennedy said Ayers picked up a pica pole – a metal ruler used to measure the size of printed type – and tried to pull Kennedy out of her chair.

    “I was literally holding on to the chair,” Kennedy said. “He picked me and the chair up, and wrestled the chair out of my hands. And he started spanking me.”

    Kennedy was 22 at the time of the alleged spanking. Ayers turned 40 the same year.

    Mike Stamler, then 22 and in his first year as a Star reporter, said he witnessed the spanking from across the room. He said we wasn’t sure Ayers was aware he was in the room at the time.

    “I don’t think I did anything,” Stamler, now retired from a job as a spokesman for the Small Business Administration, said in a telephone interview. “I didn’t know what to do. I wasn’t expecting something like that to happen.”

    Stamler and Kennedy differ in some details of their account. Kennedy said in an interview last month that the incident occurred in 1973, on Stamler’s first weekend at The Star. Stamler started work at The Star in 1975, and he said the incident happened in his first year at the paper, but not his first day. But both say a pattern of similar incidents was well known in the newsroom at the time, and led to women at The Star seeking help from editors.

    Kennedy said she didn’t go public with her story at the time because she feared how her father, a war veteran, would react.

    “I knew I couldn’t say anything because my daddy would get his .38 and shoot Brandy in the head, and he’d be in prison for the rest of his life,” Kennedy said.

    Kennedy went on to write for The Star for two more years before becoming a spokeswoman for Regional Medical Center. In 1979 she went to work for the Talladega Daily Home — also owned by Consolidated Publishing —as an editor. She later wrote for the Birmingham News, and now edits the website Animal Advocates of Alabama.

    Ayers, then and now, was among the best-known figures in Anniston, and one of the best-known small-town newspapermen in the South. After taking over as editor, then publisher of the family-run paper in the 1960s, he steered the editorial page toward advocacy for integration – a rare stance for a Southern publication at the time.

    Ayers writes regular columns for the paper, but hasn’t had an active role in The Star’s newsroom for more than a decade. In 2016, he stepped down from his role as publisher, giving the title to Bob Davis, who was then associate publisher and editor.

    The current staff of The Star began looking into the story when Joey Kennedy, Veronica Kennedy’s husband, made mention of the incident in his regular column — without mentioning the publisher or the newspaper by name — in November.

    LA prosecutors weighing charges against James Toback

    Associated Press•January 3, 2018

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors in Los Angeles are weighing criminal charges in five cases against writer and director James Toback.

    Los Angeles County district attorney's office spokesman Greg Risling says Tuesday that prosecutors are reviewing two cases from the Los Angeles Police Department and three submitted by Beverly Hills police.

    Toback, who received an Oscar nomination for writing "Bugsy," has been accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women. Many of the women said Toback had promised them stardom and their meetings would end with sexual questions and Toback masturbating in front of them or simulating sexual intercourse with them.

    Toback has vehemently denied the allegations.

    The cases are being reviewed by a task force District Attorney Jackie Lacey established to handle any criminal complaints arising from the Hollywood scandal.

    When is his trial? There needs to be trials for every one of these judicial/political chum buckets. I'd love to see new legislation that mandates 5 times the fines and penalties that an average citizen receives for crime.

    Missouri governor admits affair, accused of blackmailing woman with photo

    Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens has admitted to an extramarital affair and been accused of blackmailing his lover.

    The 43-year-old Republican, elected in 2016, met the woman when she cut his hair, according to a recording received by KMOV from the woman’s ex-husband.

    The husband, also not identified in the local report, said that the recording was made after one of the first sexual encounters in 2015.

    It featured the woman telling how Greitens did not want to meet her for coffee, but invited her to his house and at one point blindfolded her and taped her hands to an exercise apparatus after offering to teach her “how to do a perfect pull-up.”

    “He stepped back, I saw a flash through the blindfold and he said: "you're never going to mention my name, otherwise there will be pictures of me everywhere,” she said.

    Greitens allegedly later said that he deleted the picture, though the ex-husband, who said he had been contacted by law enforcement, told KMOV that the future governor, who declared his candidacy at the end of the year, was still in her life as their marriage disintegrated.

    The governor, who billed himself as a values-based family man, said in a statement that being unfaithful in his marriage was a “deeply personal mistake.”

    He thanked “God’s mercy” for helping his wife Sheena forgive him.

    “We have a loving marriage and an awesome family; anything beyond that is between us and God. I want the media and those who wish to peddle gossip to stay away from me and my children," Sheena Greitens said in a separate message.

    A lawyer for the governor, however, told the station that broke the report that it “contained multiple false allegations” and should not need the involvement of law enforcement.

    “There was no blackmail and that claim is false. This personal matter has been addressed by the Governor and Mrs. Greitens privately years ago when it happened. The outrageous claims of improper conduct regarding these almost three-year-ago events are false."

    Eliza Dushku accused one of Hollywood’s leading stunt coordinators, Joel Kramer, of sexually molesting her 25 years ago.

    The 37-year-old actress wrote a lengthy, detailed Facebook post on Saturday in which she alleges that Kramer took her to a hotel room in Miami when she was just 12 years old and ‘rubbed all over’ her body until he was ‘finished.’

    At the time, Dushku was starring in one of her first breakout roles alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1994 action flick True Lies.

    Kramer has denied the allegations.

    Dushku writes that she told her parents, one of her brothers, and two adult friends about what happened, but ‘no one seemed ready to confront this taboo subject then, nor was I.’

    The actress writes that before the alleged incident Kramer ‘made me feel special’ and ‘methodically built my and my parents’ trust’ by ‘grooming me’ for months.

    ‘[H]e lured me to his Miami hotel room with a promise to my parent that he would take me for a swim at the stunt crew’s hotel pool and for my first sushi meal thereafter,’ she writes.

    Kramer then ‘disappeared in the bathroom and emerged, naked, bearing nothing but a small hand towel held flimsy at his mid-section,’ according to Dushku.

    ‘I remember how he laid me down on the bed, wrapped me with his gigantic writhing body, and rubbed all over me,’ she writes.

    ‘He spoke these words: “You’re not going to sleep on me now sweetie, stop pretending you’re sleeping,” as he rubbed harder and faster against my catatonic body.

    ‘When he was “finished”, he suggested, “I think we should be careful…,” [about telling anyone] he meant. I was 12, he was 36.’

    Dushku also alleges that after the alleged incident in the hotel Kramer ‘put me on his lap’ and ‘clutched me’ while they were both in the backseat of a taxicab.

    She writes that the cab driver ‘stared at me in the rear view mirror’ and that ‘my eyes never left the driver’s eyes during that long ride’ in Miami.

    Dushku also alleges that after the alleged assault Kramer ‘grew cold with me in the ensuing weeks.’

    She writes that after an adult female friend of hers in whom she confided confronted Kramer about his behavior, Dushku was injured in a ‘stunt-gone-wrong’.

    Dushku writes that it was ‘no small coincidence’ that she suffered broken ribs as a result of the accident given that it was Kramer who was ‘responsible for my safety on a film that broke new ground for action films.’

    ‘My life was literally in his hands: he hung me in the open air, from a tower crane, atop an office tower, 25+ stories high,’ Dushku writes.

    ‘Whereas he was supposed to be my protector, he was my abuser.’

    Dushku also writes that Kramer had given her ‘over-the-top special attention’ by nicknaming her ‘Jailbait’ – doing so in a ‘sick flirty way in front of others’.

    Nobody on the set of the movie thought it was necessary to speak up, Dushku writes.

    The actress writes that she decided to come forward after learning recently that Kramer ‘still works at the top of the industry.’

    ‘And a few weeks ago, I found an internet photo of Joel Kramer hugging a young girl,’ she writes.

    ‘That image has haunted me near nonstop since. I can no longer hide what happened.’

    Kramer has worked either as a stunt double for Schwarzenegger or a stunt coordinator on a number of his films, including Commando, Predator, Raw Deal, Total Recall, Last Action Hero, and the Terminator movies, according to IMBD.

    Kramer told Variety on Saturday that Dushku’s allegations were 'absolutely not true.'

    He claims Dushku swam in the hotel pool with him and other members of the stunt crew, including Dushku’s stunt double.

    Afterwards, he took her to her first ever sushi meal, and then took her home.

    Kramer told Variety he was 'taken aback' and 'floored' by the allegations.

    He claims he 'never molested her' and was 'never nude in front of her.'

    'This whole talk of luring her to my room, on top of her, getting off, holding her in the car and calling her jailbait is just outright hyperbole and lies,' he said.

    Kramer told Variety that another person on the set told him that Dushku was 'always asking questions' about him.

    He said that led him to believe he needed to 'handle her with kid gloves.'

    'I did kiss her on the cheek once to say goodnight to her, gave her a hug,' he said.

    'We treated her like family, she was part of our crew.'

    Kramer insisted the allegations were 'absurd' and said that it would not have made any sense for him to do the things he is accused of.

    'Who in their right mind would do something like that, when you’re a high-profile coordinator on a shoot like that with months left of shooting?' he said.

    On Facebook, Dushku's mother writes that she accepts criticism from people who say that she should have done more to either protect her daughter or confront Kramer.

    One Facebook user wrote: 'I'm so sorry but as a parent it was your parent's responsibility to do something...They allowed you to go back to work knowing your life was in his hands.

    'And even after the incident they said nothing.'

    Judith Dushku, Eliza's mother, agreed with the criticism.

    'I accept your condemnation as Eliza's mother,' she wrote. 'I was afraid of Joel Kramer, too. And it was years later that I finally understood fully what really happened.'

    'At the time, Eliza was too scared to tell the whole story and in a way I think she protected me from knowing because she knew how frightened I was of the powerful men on the set.'
