DOJ Will Consider New Special Counsel On Clinton Foundation - Sessions to Testify on Capital Hill

By Sophie Tatum and Laura Jarrett, CNN Nov 13, 2017

*US Attorney General Jeff Sessions has asked senior federal prosecutors to "evaluate certain issues" presented by House Republicans, including alleged ties between the Clinton Foundation and the sale of Uranium One.

The Obama-era sale of the Canadian uranium mining company to Russia's Atomic Energy Agency, Rosatom, is already being investigated by House Republicans. The deal was approved in 2010, when Hillary Clinton was secretary of state. Although the claims have not been proven, some Republicans, including President Donald Trump, have alleged that Russian interests sought to donate to the Clinton Foundation to persuade Clinton to support the deal.

In a letter to House judiciary committee chairman Bob Goodlatte, assistant attorney general Stephen Boyd said the senior prosecutors will make recommendations to the attorney general and deputy general on whether "any matters not currently under investigation should be opened, whether any matters currently under investigation require further resources, or whether any merit the appointment of a special counsel."

DOJ Makes Way for Special Council on Clinton- 11/13/2017

When Attorney General Jeff Sessions testifies before the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday, he will face questioning on the Uranium One deal. As Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has intensified, President Donald Trump and some congressional Republicans, including Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), have called on Sessions to investigate Hillary Clinton’s role in what they contend is the real Russia collusion scandal. The 2010 deal allowed Russian state-owned firm Rosatom to obtain a majority stake in Canada’s Uranium One, which owned about 20 percent of U.S. uranium recovery production. A New York Times investigative report found that a Uranium One official donated to the Clinton Foundation before and after the 2010 sale.

No way. They must have dirt on Sessions as he has already said he wouldn't prosecute.

This is an earthquake. And we are seeing the cracks increasing in the Clinton Foundation. This started in Congress....

Congressional referrals sparked DOJ investigations like Uranium One and Clinton Foundation

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has confirmed it has received multiple congressional referrals for investigations over the past year regarding the sale of twenty percent of the American uranium supply to Russia's nuclear arm, as well as calls for investigations into allegations of pay-for-play regarding the Clinton Foundation, Circa has learned.

Multiple sources, including congressional officials, tell Circa that the requests sent to the Department of Justice over the past year have led to ongoing investigations, which they say also include investigations into the alleged leaking of classified information to the media and the improper unmasking of Americans.

DOJ spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores told Circa, "the department takes seriously all allegations from Congress of criminal conduct in determining whether to open an investigation." She said, "requests to open an investigation would be referred to the appropriate investigative agency, such as the FBI, for review."

Isgur Flores said, "all allegations are reviewed in light of the principles of federal prosecution. And while some may find it frustrating at times, the Department has a policy against confirming or denying the existence of investigations in order to maintain the integrity of the process until and if charges are filed."

FBI officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Former FBI Director James Comey was fired early this year, in part for publicly discussing ongoing investigations related to the Clinton email investigations. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein noted in his letter regarding the FBI director's firing that Comey's derogatory statements about the investigation are a “textbook example of what federal prosecutors and agents are taught not to do.”

Several DOJ officials told Circa, in order preserve the integrity of the investigations, they are rarely discussed publicly.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions will appear before the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday, where committee members are expected to ask about the status of any investigations based on the congressional referrals the DOJ has received. Sessions is expected to testify on an array of matters, including questions on a former Trump campaign staffer George Papadopoulos, who pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents about his contacts with Russians. Democratic lawmakers said they want to know why Sessions said he was "not aware of any of those" contacts between Russian officials and Papadopoulos, as first reported by Reuters.

According to Congressional sources, Sessions, however, is also expected to come under questioning from many of his former colleagues in the committee regarding other Russia connected investigations stemming back to the Obama and Clinton administrations.

If the current Department of Justice does not investigate the abuses, then self-government as it was once known is gone

    Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tx

Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Texas Republican, who serves on the House Judiciary Committee, said he was not surprised to see that the investigation into the sale of American uranium during the Obama administration was added to the list of investigations underway at the Department of Justice.

“This country has seen the most powerful and intrusive parts of the mammoth federal government misused and abused as a virtual, political racketeer influenced and corrupt organization," Gohmert told Circa. "If the current Department of Justice does not investigate the abuses, then self-government as it was once known is gone. We're finally getting glimpses of the investigations they've been doing."

Judiciary Chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., along with other members, have openly expressed their frustration that the Justice Department may not be doing enough regarding investigations into possible misconduct. In the House Judiciary Committee hearings on Tuesday, the committee is expected to ask questions regarding Russia's acquisition in 2010 of the Canadian mining company Uranium One and the then FBI investigation of money laundering and racketeering by employees of the Russian subsidiaries connected to that purchase, according to congressional sources that spoke with Circa.

Committee members are also expected to address issues regarding then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's role in the uranium sale, which includes allegations that the Clinton Foundation and then Clinton Global Initiative may have accepted graft money, according to the sources.

Another area of contention expected to be brought up in the hearing is "the FBI's handling of its investigation into Clinton's private email server and we want some answers on that as well," said a Republican congressional aide, who spoke on background as they were not authorized to speak to the media on the matter.

A congressional source with the House Intelligence Committee, which has launched a probe into allegations that Americans, particularly members of the Trump campaign were improperly unmasked, told Circa "after all these months of investigations, there is still no evidence of Trump officials colluding with Russian hacking in the election."

"But there sure are a lot of problems about the Democrats' Russia connections," said the congressional source, who was referencing recent allegations that the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign paid the controversial research firm Fusion GPS for the unverified dossier on President Trump. "Their whole Russia collusion enterprise is starting to boomerang back on them."

As far as I know as of yesterday a few congress reps were asking questions of Sessions.
There is an end around to this and not sure where the new FBI director stands on enforcing the laws when the DOJ is reluctant to do it.

Sessions vows quick decision on possible Clinton prosecutor

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday that the Justice Department would work quickly to decide whether to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton, President Donald Trump's election rival.

Sessions' comments indicated that Republicans were seeking to mount a counter-offensive to the probe into Russian election meddling -- and whether or not Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow to sway the 2016 contest.

The Justice Department sent political shockwaves across Washington late Monday when it revealed it was evaluating the possibility of naming a special counsel to probe the foundation of former president Bill Clinton and its ties to firms involved in a deal that sold US uranium rights to a Russian state company.

The letter also said it was reviewing the FBI's handling last year of a probe into Hillary Clinton's use of a personal server for official and in some cases classified emails, in breach of government rules, while she was secretary of state.

In the year since his election win, Trump has repeatedly suggested that the Justice Department should investigate allegations against the Clintons.

Sessions promised the committee that his department would move quickly to decide whether to take action on the cases, including appointing a special prosecutor.

"Do I have your assurance that these matters will proceed fairly and expeditiously?" committee chairman Robert Goodlatte asked him.

"Yes, you can, Mr. Chairman, and you can be sure that they will be done without political influence and they will be done correctly and properly."

Democrats said any such action would represent an unacceptable politicization of the country's justice system.

"If the AG bends to pressure from President Trump and his allies, and appoints a special counsel to investigate Trump’s vanquished rival, it could spell the end of the DOJ as an independent institution," Democratic Representative Adam Schiff said on Twitter.

    - Backtracking on Russia -

In an appearance before the House Judiciary Committee that at times became contentious, Sessions walked back earlier testimony made under oath that he had no knowledge of contacts between Trump's campaign and Russia.

Recent court documents and testimony revealed fresh information on relations last year between Russian officials and Trump's foreign policy advisory team, which was led by Sessions.

He denied lying in past Capitol Hill hearings, but told lawmakers he had forgotten about a meeting in March 2016 with Trump, then a presidential candidate, and his foreign policy advisors at which such contacts were discussed.

"I do now recall the March 2016 meeting at Trump Hotel that Mr. (George) Papadopoulos attended, but I have no clear recollection of the details of what he said during that meeting," Sessions testified.

"After reading his account, and to the best of my recollection, I believe that I wanted to make clear to him that he was not authorized to represent the campaign with the Russian government, or any other foreign government, for that matter."

Papadopoulos has pleaded guilty to a charge of lying to the FBI in the matter, in a deal that made clear he is assisting independent special prosecutor Robert Mueller, who is leading the Russian election meddling probe.

Sessions adamantly insisted that he was not changing his previous testimony.

"My answers have never changed. I have always told the truth," he said.

"I will not accept and reject accusations that I have ever lied under oath. That is a lie."

Separately, Sessions slammed leaks of classified information that he said had reached "epidemic proportions," and confirmed the existence of 27 probes into such leaks.

"It cannot be allowed to continue and we will do our best effort to ensure it does not continue," the attorney general said.

Trump has complained often and bitterly about leaks of sensitive information since he came to power, notably related to the probe being led by Mueller.

May as well be comey or clinton herself running the show, if the are refusing to do their jobs and jail the bad guys why bother "investigating" at all unless it's to unearth damning evidence and then destroy it?

There has been a lot going on behind the scenes with different investigations.......which the public is not privy to.

Notice that Sessions kept referring to "a matter" rather than "investigations" - tongue in cheek ala Loretta Lynch to Jim Comey.......

He can't say whether something is under investigation, so nobody knows whether there is one or not......"I am not able to confirm or deny" he had to keep saying, so those who say there is no investigation don't have a clue.

So the Reps. look like they got together and outlined all the background of the Clinton affair/Foundation/Uranium One/Comey/emails and then sort of asked "isn't this enough to have an investigation, rather than pushing this Russia thing"?......all the while sounding indignant that DOJ hadn't done anything yet. And of course "I cannot confirm or deny".....

Then a couple of bright GOP women just asked flat out "have you ever done anything to harm the Security of your country?"......"have you ever worked with the Russians on the campaign". Of course he flat out said NO!!

And all the barking by the Dem dogs was then refuted under oath.

Someone is getting arrested! Look at this!

More than 200 MS-13 members were arrested in a major Trump administration gang sweep!

    (ATF Agent)

"Operation Raging Bull" was conducted across the United States from Oct. 8 to Nov. 11.
    • It concluded with the arrest of 214 members of MS-13.
    • President Donald Trump has directed federal law enforcement officials to focus resources on combating transnational gangs, including MS-13.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration announced a major gang sweep Thursday, with the arrest of more than 200 members of the violent street gang MS-13.

Officials from the Department of Homeland Security and Justice Department said "Operation Raging Bull" was conducted across the United States from Oct. 8 to Nov. 11, and concluded with the arrest of 214 members of MS-13.

"We will not rest until every member, associate and leader of MS-13 has been held accountable for their crimes," said Thomas Horman, director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This was the second phase of a federal effort to target MS-13. The first phase involved 53 arrests in El Salvador in September after an 18-month investigation.

In a statement, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said more than 1,200 gang members have been convicted so far this year, and about 4,000 have been arrested and charged. He said the arrests will help make the country safer "by taking MS-13 off our streets for good."

Christie would have been a lot better choice for AG than Sessions, who was a swamp creature for 20 years as a senator.
Sessions was in DC but is and was a man of integrity and principles. Christie, otoh, sucked up to mozlems big time, among other grave flaws.
