Ok, Have some pictures to share

I have quite a few so I'll post what I can. I have been organic growing since the late 90's and have slowly gone into Back to Eden method and Companion Planting. I have been planting as many herbs as I can find that will grow in my area and I wildcraft once in awhile so a few pictures will show that as well. I also follow the moon cycles and the Farmer's Almanac. Here's a link to the Moon Calendar..

For me that would be too many irons in the fire, I could do the vegetables or I could do the herbs or I could do flowers. To grow, to dry, to harvest and preserve the harvest, keep records of everything would overwhelm my brain and my body. I give you a "two thumbs up".

I know right!! That's why I'm not on here very much right now. I do have too many irons in the fire and it's only me doing them all. I don't do flowers per say, only herbs which often are flowers. The picture of the flowers off my deck are yarrow, bee balm, echinacea, marshmallow, silver weed and chocolate mint. I have learned to not stress over what I can and can't do and keeping records isn't something I often do. I harvest the veggies and most of the fruit but as far as the herbs go, I only harvest what I need or something that I couldn't buy later on like mullein flowers. Herbs are normally quite cheap thankfully and I still have a good source for buying them. I do want to keep growing anything I can though in case that day comes where I can't purchase them. Insurance kind of.

Thank you for the thumbs up Bob. Much appreciated!

As I lounged on the back deck today after quite a bit of gardening work I realized I had a very nice birdseye view through my Red Climbing Spinach out in the garden and the red roses to the right were making things sparkle. I had my dog laying between my legs and one of my cats was just as relaxed as I was laying off to my right so I told the animals to freeze while I grabbed my camera. They stayed put and I sat back down thinking of how I wanted TB to be able to see just what I saw. I went back in the house right after to make some tea and put away a variety of dried herbs. These are the pictures I took today. I planned on making kale chips tonight but they stay quite good in a big cup of water so tomorrow will have to do. I'm tired..

You are so right Dinghy. Sometimes it takes my breath away as I am only the tender not the creator. Plants have a life force all their own and I think they thrive when we do. If I'm not doing well, my plants show it shortly thereafter. I've told my kids that they could tell when Mom is doing well by just looking at my plants. So true too!

Thank you NoDandy. I'm thrilled I could impress you and yes, Oscar is going on 15 and his name literally means "The Great Hunter". That he is and he taught my 3 year old mouser to follow suit. Both Alfa males. Oscar was born under my bed and he is the last of his family. All the while he matured I always told him and everyone else that this was his house and we just live with him and serve him. He is the King. Btw, He has only been to a Vet once when he was fixed and since then it's been all natural medicine. I've been told many times that he is very healthy looking and acting. A blessing.

It's the only way to go Eriha. It's like cooking a good home cooked meal. Can't beat it. Glad you are doing herbs as well. It's a life long venture for me. I just today went out and harvested jewel weed and made up two jars with one of grapeseed oil and the other witch hazel. I'll use the hazel for a spray and the grapeseed for a salve. Both to treat the poison ivy all over the back woods right now. The salve will take a few weeks to be ready if I don't cook it first but the hazel will be ready by tomorrow night. Fun to do and so needed.

    Is the Ginko a tree?
Thank you Yarnball. It was my pleasure. Yes, Ginkgo is a tree and mine is about 30 to 35 years old now. It was given to me by a dear friend about three years ago. It grows so very slowly it's only about 12 to 15 feet tall but it's doing very well. The Ginkgo is the oldest living tree on our planet, it is found in fossils dating back 270 million years. It was here when the dinosaurs roamed and it's name means longevity. Here's a link to an interesting biography about it... http://e360.yale.edu/features/peter_...hs_oldest_tree

Funny I was looking at real esate the other evening and one house I looked at advertised it had a big Ginkgo in the backyard. I thought hmm.. never knew that would be a selling point. Interesting.

What a wonderful job you have done. I just could not do all that work. I have to make our sauerkraut this weekend since we ended up with around 30 cabbages and that alone is stressing me. Well done Vicki.

Thank you BubbleHead. I do go from day to night and usually crash in bed and I keep asking myself, is it worth it? Myself keeps saying back, Yep, just for my health alone!

Sauerkraut sounds wonderful but I didn't plant cabbage this year. I am in the middle of tomato sauce though so I understand!
