US officials Seized North Korean Diplomatic Package at JFK

Now with the death of U.S. hostage Otto Warmbier I believe it is high time to directly target and detain NK officials and agents under our own "trumped up" charges until our remaining hostages are released from NK. This is a good start but we need to apply more non-lethal pressure on NK.

North Korea: US officials seized diplomatic package at JFK

    By TOM McELROY
    Published June 18, 2017 AP

NEW YORK – North Korea claimed Sunday that U.S. officials forcibly seized a diplomatic package from one of their delegations at John F. Kennedy Airport, calling it an "illegal and heinous act of provocation."

The official Korean Central News Agency said officials were returning from a UN conference on rights of persons with disabilities Friday when they were "literally mugged."

"At the airport, a group of more than 20 including those who claimed to be from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the police officers made a violent assault like gangsters to take away the diplomatic package from the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) diplomats who were in possession of a valid diplomatic courier certificate," a spokesman for North Korea's foreign ministry told the news agency.

"As the diplomats vigorously resisted, they grabbed the diplomatic package using physical violence and made off," the North Korean spokesman said.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokesman David Lapan said Sunday its officers did seize multiple media items and packages from three North Koreans who, according to the U.S. State Department, were not accredited members of North Korea's Mission to the U.N. and had no diplomatic immunity.

"The package in question had no diplomatic protection from inspection," said Lapan, adding that North Koreans attempted to physically retrieve the items but were prevented from doing so by DHS officers.

"The reported aggression was initiated by the North Koreans," Lapan said. "The individuals were released without further incident but subsequently refused to board their departing flight without the items that had been seized."

It wasn't immediately clear why the items were taken. The State Department in a statement confirmed the assertions by DHS that the package had no diplomatic protection and that the travelers weren't accredited North Korean diplomats at the U.N., but offered no other details.

The incident comes days after 22-year-old American college student Otto Warmbier was returned to his home state of Ohio in a coma with severe brain damage after being imprisoned in North Korea for 17 months.

North Korea claims the coma resulted from botulism and a sleeping pill, but U.S. doctors said they found no evidence of active botulism, a rare, serious illness caused by contaminated food or a dirty wound.

Not only those items but when I read this, ""The individuals were released without further incident but subsequently refused to board their departing flight without the items that had been seized."

I think they also didn't want to board the flight home without the items because they know their "Dear Leader" will shoot the messenger and they most likely fear execution.

Doesn't take much of anything for "Dear Leader" to order their demise. V

I never thought I would even entertain a thought like this Buick Electra......but I'm so enraged and heartbroken for this family, I totally agree with you. I'm so sorry for the population of NK...they have no power to do a damn thing about what happens to them......but this shit must end! Enough of the United
States of America bowing down to these monsters that are in power....and i frankly see no way to save the population from what must be done to end this evil regime.....and as far as I'm concerned this regime must be put down!! Like the rabid dogs that they are. The sooner the better. Forget China pretending to try to put a stop on NK.....it's not going to happen and we all know it!

Red Baron, I usually agree with all you say/write. However, "This is a good start but we need to apply more non-lethal pressure on NK," (accent mine) puts my remaining teeth on edge. Sir, with all due respect, I believe we should use assets in the "deep black" organizations to actively surveil, target, and eliminate ANY NK agents, diplomats, assets of any nation, immediately. Make their presence diminish, until it is gone. The North Korean people must overthrow their government, or eventually, be removed from the earth. That should be the goal to also eliminate/exterminate islam. Same reasons- survival. China and Russia should also be encouraged to change...

Am I pissed? Yes, from every President since Reagan to Obama, we've seen nothing but treason and corruption, enabling and supporting our enemies. It has to stop. Otherwise, we are well and truly doomed.

Interestingly enough, North Koreans are managing to have children at much closer to replacement rate than are South Koreans.
Even Famine Communism apparently isn't as destructive of a country in the long run as is feminism (which SK women have a fairly bad case of).

We don't know this for sure, though. I trust no stats. or info. of any sort that is released from out of the country.

I was wondering if many of them are forced to be sterilized, too.

    "Deep Black", good term!

Now that a U.S. political hostage has essentially been murdered, we are forced to employ a proportionate escalation against NK.

Some NK official, diplomat, known spy, trade representative or whatever needs to meet their demise via an "accident" that has plausible deniability to the United States.

It could be a car accident, elevator mishap, sudden illness, food poisoning, random street crime, etc.

Send a loud and clear message that this administration is not shackled by any previous constraints.

Last night I was so beside myself with grief for the Warmbiers that I cried myself to sleep.

Can you imagine???......God has to see every evil deed done every minute n the face of this earth. How HORRIBLE fr our Almighty Creator! Does God EVER have a 'good' day???? How does one "LOSE BRAIN TISSUE?" I understand how brain tissue can die due to a stroke, but to be minus brain tissue sends my imagination off on horrible scenarios.

Otto Warmbier Suffered 'Extensive Loss Of Brain Tissue,' No Sign Of Botulism

Before I finally fell asleep last night, I Praised God through my tears for His never-ending mercy in getting Otto out of there and letting him pass with the people around who loved him, instead of in an evil country.

Yes, this is one reason "peasants" tended historically to have large families, there were other reasons but the "something to do after dark" did/does play a role; I still remember the motel maid in the Andes who asked Shirley McClaine for the "magic pill" so she could keep having relations with her husband but not have any more kids (I think she had like 10 or something)? The women explained that in the Andes they had two choices; have kids until the mother died and/or went through menopause or sleep in separate rooms and never have marital relations.

I suspect it is very much the same in North Korea only with even fewer options for other entertainment (in the Andes at least they have festivals, church services etc).

Since the package was not exempt from inspection and the recipients had no diplomatic immunity, the headline is misleading. Seizing diplomatic pouches starts you down a slippery slope no matter who or where. If we disregard that thin veneer of civility, even to North Korea, then many countries will assume we would do the same to them, and thus start doing such to our officials and bags.

In this case, there was no actual diplomatic incident, at least not the way this read. Thus seizing the package or even the recipients is not a diplomatic event.
