Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young Could Reunite Over Shared Hatred of Trump

    Breitbart
by Daniel Nussbaum 20 Apr 2017

The feud between musicians Graham Nash and David Crosby of the iconic rock group Crosby, Still, Nash and Young is, by now, legendary among classic rock fans. In an interview last year, Nash said his former bandmate “tore the heart out” of CSNY. Fans’ hopes for another reunion never appeared so dim.

But now, with the election of President Donald Trump in November, Nash has indicated that he and his bandmates might be able to put their animosity for each other aside for the greater good — and their apparent mutual dislike of Trump.

“Here’s how I feel about it: I believe that the issues that are keeping us apart pale in comparison to the good that we can do if we get out there and start talking about what’s happening,” the 75-year-old told Variety in an interview this week.

“So I’d be totally up for it even though I’m not talking to David and neither is Neil. But I think that we’re smart people in the end and I think we realize the good that we can do,” he added.

Despite his problems with Crosby, the two apparently share similar politics. In an interview this month with the San Luis Obispo Tribune, Crosby called Trump “without question the worst president we have ever had.”

“He’s an idiot and a child and an asshole, and he’s brought a crew of rapists in with him to screw the economy every way they could and try to get more money for themselves,” Crosby said.

So it would hardly be a surprise if today’s political climate brought the group back together. The band’s repertoire includes such politically-charged songs as 2013’s “Almost Gone (The Ballad of Bradley Manning)” and the 1970 mega-hit “Ohio,” about the Kent State shootings during the Vietnam War.

Still, Nash’s comments represent an abrupt departure from what he said about Crosby in an interview last year with Dutch outlet Lust for Life. Nash said that Crosby had been “f*cking awful” to him over the past few years, and flatly said the group would never reunite.

“I’ve been there and saved his f*cking ass for 45 years, and he treated me like sh*t,” Nash said of former bandmate at the time. “You can’t do that to me. You can do it for a day or so, until I think you’re going to come around. But when it goes on longer, and I keep getting nasty emails from him, I’m done. F*ck you.”

But the election of Trump has apparently changed all that. Nash told Variety that today’s activists must remain “really vigilant and strong” in an uncertain political climate.

“We cannot let this man undermine everything we have fought for over the last 30 years, which is what’s happening by the way,” he said. “You couldn’t possibly write this script and have it accepted in Hollywood, they would laugh you out of the office. ‘Then this guy becomes president and did what?’ It’s a crazy story.”

I know we had a thread on these guys not too long ago.
This is one group that I never liked, never saw, never owned a cassette, cd, lp, reel to reel etc. and would not go across the street for a "free" concert.

Seen all 4 in concert, and the three probably 3 or 4 times.

I think I'll miss this one.

Sounds like Graham Nash is talking to himself here. He says he doesn't talk to David Crosby, and says that Neil Young doesn't, either. Stephen Stills isn't even mentioned in the article, and it's unclear if anybody has talked to him about this reunion.

All this article portends, frankly, is a reunion of Graham Nash with himself.

I like their music and could care less for their politics. I remember this interview Jimmy Buffet once gave regarding politics and his music. He said he never mentions politics at his shows because people didn't pay to hear it. They come to my shows to escape their daily grind and take a short vacation. More artists could learn from him

I'm a sucker for harmony, what can I say? Their politics stinks, but their voices blend so well in song. BTW~ it came out a few years ago that someone shot at the cops first. Of course, you'd never see that on tv.

I did like the first couple of their releases in 1969/70 since then they have done nothing worthwhile, except split up and reunite numerous times singing old hits. Can't see what Trump has to do with reuniting an old singing group. There was an old BBC concert of Crosby/Nash, Crosby was completely stoned out of his mind.

    Crosby pills hash and dung.

A few years ago I attended a Searchers concert in the UK, they said referring to their singing close harmonies, close but not harmonies..........

No "good" will come of it. The 60's folk/rock era, when music made social statements, is long over. Just sayin...

Say what you will I've always been a fan of Neil Young even though he is a typical musical liberal. Many of these people are pretty insulated and see everything through a really narrow peephole in coming to terms with their world view. They don't get the 'big picture' that many of us do so of course they take out their venom at the conservative politicians like many on our side do with the liberal politicians. Truth of the matter is that TPTB play off the liberals and conservatives against one another and few are able to get a handle on the idea that both the left and the right are part of the Republican/Democrat, right/left, conservative/liberal false paradigm. Can't blame the man too much for not being able to discern who the real enemies are to freedom and liberty as they are concealed from most eyes.

CSN(Y) didn't really make any political statements except Ohio, that was written by Young and the B side written by Stills with more general lyrics. Other than that their output wasn't particularly left wing.

Even Dylan wasn't left wing or not for very long........

If they want to reunite then they should be able to produce new music.

As with so many rock musicians, I loved their music but despised their politics. I never had any trouble keeping the two separated.

Well, I finally got the poster to load up. CSNY, July 31, 1974 , Texas Stadium, Irving, TX. I was there and loved every minute of their performance. Jesse Colin Young was great, the Beach Boys not so much. Eight bucks in advance, ten at the gate. Those were the days!

"The Beach Boys not so much!!!!" Why that's tantamount to Rock and Roll Royalty BLASPHEMY!!

DD gave us tickets for Christmas to see the Beach Boys last year in Baton Rouge. I do have to say, the concert was spectacular and DH was laughing at me as I went tripping out singing, "And she'll have fun, fun, fun till her daddy takes her T-bird awaaaay."

    Ah, lost youth. Sigh.

At least I heard they were for Trump.

SCNY were one of our favorites too but even if DD gave us free tickets to see them, we won't go.

CSNY had their Rocky Mountain, pothead, new age, heyday but it is getting almost painful watching them now, both on and off of the stage.

They like some other ultra-aged bands just need to hang it up.

Couldn't stand them as people. Couldn't stand their politics. But their harmony? Now that's quite another story. I could listen to (and harmonize with) them all day.

That said, I think it's sad to watch former rock groups still trying to pull off today what were their glory days. Fade into the woodwork guys and hang it up.

Sigh. This is what you get when entertainers are encouraged to use their fifteen minutes of fame to spout off about things way, way beyond the capacity of their submicroscopic brains. One of the great tragedies of our age is that they get so much free publicity for their inanities and that so many impressionable young fans take them seriously. But then, a bunch of Social Security beneficiaries like CSN&Y probably don't have any young fans...unless, as we've done with so many other concepts, we redefine "young."
This seemingly innocent phrase is programming you in ways that will not be apparent for years...

The Beach Boys were able to produce better harmony vocals musically than CSN but the songs are not really comparable.
