This Do-Nothing Congress Is A Travesty

    4/20/2017

Agenda: Shortly after Donald Trump won the election, House Speaker Paul Ryan said that Republicans had to "go big, go bold, and do things." So far, the GOP has not delivered.

"They have the House, they have the Senate, they have the presidency and nothing's happening," lamented PJ Media co-founder Roger Simon earlier this week. "Nothing, that is, that Donald Trump doesn't do by himself. ... The Republicans in the legislature are a disgrace."

Congress did pass, and Trump signed, 13 bills to undo last-minute Obama administration regulations. And the Senate approved Trump's Supreme Court pick. But what about actually advancing long-awaited Republican legislative priorities, like ObamaCare repeal and tax cuts? Nada.

Ryan claims that he's working on yet another version of an ObamaCare repeal and replace bill after the first attempt blew up in hopes that he can get a vote on it before Trump hits his 100-day mark. But even if the bill wins approval in the House, nobody knows what the Senate will do, or when.

Now tax reform is slipping off the table, with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin saying that getting reform done by August is "highly aggressive to not realistic."

These delays could easily have been avoided. ObamaCare repeal and tax reform had been on the Republican agenda for years, and Ryan had already hammered out detailed "Better Way" proposals for both last summer. There was every reason to think that Republicans would have, in the words of Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds, bills "lined up like airplanes on a runway ready to take off in the new year."

That is, after all, what's happened in the past when one party gained control of the White House after securing both the House and Senate. Lawmakers rushed to enact key pieces of their agenda that had been bottled up by the opposition, or that the president ran on.

In 2009, for example, Democrats introduced their massive and complex stimulus bill which included a long-standing liberal spending wish list just six days after President Obama was sworn in. He signed it into law on Feb. 17, 2009.

They also introduced a bill to expand the Children's Health Insurance program (Jan. 13), impose "fair pay" rules (Jan. 8), and regulate credit cards (Jan. 22). They all hit Obama's desk within his first 100 days.

In 2001, Republicans introduced a major tax-cut plan just one month after President Bush took office. It passed the House in early March, and Bush signed the final version into law in June of that year.

By May 1993, Democrats in the House had approved newly elected President Clinton's huge tax hikes. He signed them into law in August. They also pushed through the Family and Medical Leave Act and the "motor voter" bill, both of which had long been on their party's agenda.

Even Reagan was able to get his tax cuts through the House by the end of July 1981, despite the fact that Democrats held a 50-seat majority at the time.

There's plenty of blame to go around for the GOP's lack of achievements so far. But Ryan has been the biggest disappointment, since the House is where things get rolling.

Ryan earned his reputation for his ability to dive into big issues and produce thoughtful, innovative conservative reforms. So far, his ability to act aggressively and unify his caucus around anything has been sorely lacking.

If Ryan can't figure out how to do this, and soon, he should consider handing the Speaker's gavel to someone who can "go big, go bold, and do things."
"Adversity makes you stronger. Don't give in. Don't back down. And never stop doing what you know is right."

    Can you say "Deep State?"

Now try it again in a lower voice - like Mr. Clean in the cleaning product commercial. Or James Earl Jones.

To members of Congress THIS is FAST.

Joe Sixpak is safer with this Congress on vacation than he would be with them in session. They are nothing but Dhimmicrats and obstructionist RINOs/GOPers. There will be no Trump legislative agenda success with this crowd.

It's been proven beyond doubt the two party system is to keep them in power and the people arguing with each other. Expect nothing, that's what you are going to get. No way will the government solve the problems of what ails us, as it benefits them. Thats one of the more important two party systems in action, us vs them.

The "Government" we see is not the real Government. The "Shadow Government" is really in charge. Congress is useless from the beginning.

Yup. I don't blame Trump for not getting things done. I BLAME CONGRESS! The same congress of whom a majority are against Trump. The same congress who are OWNED by K-street.

Come 2018 and 2020 I would hope that voters who love our country VOTE OUT ALL THE ELITE REPUBLICANS and 'try' to replace them with pro-Trump peeps.

In the mean time, Trump is trying to get as much done through executive orders that he can.

    Sad.

It looks as if we traded 1 tyrant across an ocean for 535 tyrants (sans a handful or two) in DC. The sad part is those men and women are not accountable to We The People because they are beholden to a handful of globalist oligarchs. See where this is headed?

Trump is going to buy us some time but the only way to fix Congress is an Article V Amendment Convention.

    Better a do-nothing congress than a do-harm one.
