Some things you should know about Auburn University...

I consider Auburn to be my home away from home and, quite frankly, I have always thought it would be a nice place to raise a family as there's a lot of good people who live and work there. As such, I hope Auburn can escape the berkley-esque hoopla that we witnessed on tv a few months ago.
That school used to be (may still be) on long-term probation/censured status by the largest professional association of college faculty & staff for not keeping its promises to employees. Look up what they did to the famous religious scholar Curran; they invited him there as a tenured professor, then reneged on tenure once they had him there.
Auburn about 25 years ago also did a huge "standardization" scheme whose primary effect was to never again allow pay raises the rest of their careers at Auburn Univ. for many longtime employees.
Some 95-IQ accountant type got promoted above his competence to Dean of the grad school. He immediately stopped allowing grad students who were just doing thesis work to get the school to agree that they were still fulltime student status (so they could both get more student loans and not have to pay back their to-date student loans).
Then, there was how their Geology Department operated. Five years after taking them, classes were no longer considered to "count" towards graduation. Further, where theses were pretty much never approved. So, M.S. students in that department would come, take all their classes, NEVER get a thesis approved before their money ran out, move to some distant city to get a job, try to (inevitably inefficiently) work on their thesis long-distance, run out their 5 years, and just give up, cursing the day they decided to be Auburn University students.
This is a town where it took about 3 years to fix a 1' deep x 2.5' wide x 15' long rut in front of the curved drive in front of the Geology Building (Petrie Hall). It also took over two years once started to widen a road from 2 to 4 lanes.
The best description of Auburn U. comes from someone asking a student who'd attended both there and Texas A. & M. how the two schools differed: "A. & M. had money left over after football."
