The ex-boyfriend of Alina Sheykhet, the 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student found dead in her bedroom last October by her father, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Wednesday after pleading guilty to first-degree murder, an Allegheny County court official tells PEOPLE.

When asked by Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey A. Manning why he was pleading guilty, Matthew Darby replied, “Because I am guilty,” the Pittsburg Post-Gazette reports.

The sentencing brings Alina’s family closure one year after her father found her dead in a pool of her own blood at her home in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh on Oct. 8, 2017.

At a Wednesday press conference, Alina’s family said her memory lives on.

“[Alina’s] love for people has become even stronger. She is more alive than she has ever been,” said Alina’s mother Elly Sheykhet, noting that she still refers to her daughter in the present tense. “She is even more beautiful and powerful now. Alina is a beautiful angel. She brought so many people together by loving and supporting each other, she is guiding and helping us to make this world a better place. And as long as the Earth rotates on its axis, the world will be carrying her love and her beauty.”

Darby, of Greensburg, is believed to have killed his ex-girlfriend in the middle of the night after they dated on and off for two years. He has been described by Alina’s friends as possessive.

“You didn’t want anyone else to have her. From this, you did the most selfish thing to get what you truly wanted,” Paige O’Neil, Alina’s best friend, said in court. “I just want you to know that even though you took my very best friend away from me, you will never kill her soul. Her memory is always here.”

Alina’s roommate, Rebecca Kubiczki, said in January that Alina often had to change the password to her social media accounts to stop Darby from accessing them. But Darby would force Alina to tell him her new passwords.

When her body was found, it had “multiple chop and stab wounds to the head and face,” according to the Post-Gazette.

Weeks before Alina’s death, Darby was arrested for breaking into her home while she and Kubiczki were there, Kubiczki said. When he wouldn’t leave, the women called the police, who arrested and charged Darby with criminal trespass, the Post-Gazette reports.

Darby also pleaded guilty to charges from that incident, the Post-Gazette reports.

Darby’s attorney could not be reached for comment Thursday. On Wednesday, he told the judge that his client felt remorse for murdering Alina, according to the Post-Gazette.

Woman Kills 5-Year-Old Daughter By Pushing Her Down Stairs On Halloween, Chester County DA’s Office Says

    November 5, 2018

PARKESBURG, Pa. (CBS) — A woman is accused of killing her 5-year-old daughter on Halloween by pushing her down the stairs.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office says 25-year-old Ciara Robinson, of Parkesburg, has been charged with third-degree murder and aggravated assault. in the death of Amatulah “Amy” McLaughlin.

Parkesburg Borough Police were called to the 400 block of Walnut Street on Oct. 31. Authorities say Amy was dead for some time when they arrived.

The Chester County DA’s Office says an investigation revealed that Robinson became angry with Amy and intentionally pushed her down the 8- to 9-foot-tall stairs to the basement of the home. Amy struck her head on concrete when she hit the landing.

According to officials, Robinson told a friend, “I knocked [the victim] out … She won’t wake up … I am going to jail.”

An autopsy revealed that Amy died of blunt force trauma to the head, resulting in an acute subdural hematoma and an extremely swollen brain. The autopsy also revealed that Amy had been severely beaten over a period of time as she had extensive bruises, scars, puncture wounds, and strike marks over her arms, legs and back.

“This little girl was severely abused, culminating in her death. No child should have to live like this,” said Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan. “Our hearts are broken by the death of an innocent child. Working together, we will make sure that justice is served.”

Officials say Robinson had been beating her young daughter since at least November 2017.

“When I look at photographs of this little girl, what I see is that she’s often in clothes that cover up down all the way to her wrists and to her ankles,” explained Hogan. “And like many abusers, it looks like this defendant made sure that she struck this child in places where it wouldn’t show up until she did something that crossed all the way over and killed this little girl.”

Robinson’s 2-year-old son is unharmed and in protective custody.

Man arrested in the beating death of toddler in his care

Thuds from punches were audible through the walls of an apartment, prompting a concerned citizen to call police.

This time, on Sept. 19, was about the 10th occasion the person reporting had heard a domestic-disturbance-related commotion coming from the apartment and decided to finally speak up.

So, Metro Police showed up to investigate the claims, but a woman and a man there denied any abuse had taken place, and the officers left.

A month later, a 1-year-old boy was dead, fatally injured in the same location officers had responded to at the Pinewood Crossing Apartments, 764 Twain Ave., near Swenson Street, according to an arrest report.

Robert Aaron Smith, who was tasked with caring for the boy, called 911 about 9:20 a.m. Oct. 9 to report a child in distress, police said.

Injuries throughout the boy’s little body included rib fractures and internal bleeding from a broken liver and spine hemorrhaging, police said. He died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

Brianna Brown, 24, the boy’s mother, who wasn’t present when first responders arrived, and Smith, 29, are accused of child abuse, police said. Smith is facing an additional count of murder.

The couple provided inconsistent and conflicting accounts — including about their relationship — and weren’t able to explain how a 1-year-old could suffer such injuries, according to the report.

The woman told detectives that she would pay the man to take care of her three children, yet he told them that they were boyfriend and girlfriend, and he would watch them as needed, police said.

What was clear was that police did not buy Brown’s claim that her son was injured in a fall from a sofa the previous day, because “these are not the heights associated with these types of injures,” one of the detectives wrote in the arrest report.

Smith became confrontational with detectives, police said.

One of the surviving children was hospitalized the same day with a liver cut and brain bleeding, police said. Clark County Child Protective Services took him to Sunrise Hospital.

Detectives were able to track down the anonymous caller who in September reported the suspected abuse, according to the report.

That person reported to a 911 operator hearing children being hit, and that they and their mother were being threatened by a man, police said.

The alleged domestic disturbances occurred over several months during the same time period, 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Often, the uproar would stem over trivial occurrences like the time the woman did not properly heat the man’s food, police said. Another time, the person said, a young boy who was being potty trained had peed on the floor, and the man beat him, according to police.

The woman had tried to intervene but was threatened, police said. “The source also stated that the sound of the children being hit was very distinctive and sounded like that of a punch and not a slap,” according to the report.

Texas woman arrested after allegedly beating puppy to death with broom handle: report

A woman in Killeen, Texas, is facing charges after she allegedly beat a puppy to death with a broom handle in early October, according to a report.

The woman, identified as Takeshia Antwanette Atoigue, purportedly hit the puppy with the “metal handle of a broom,” KCEN-TV reported. The young dog “made noises” during the incident, witnesses recalled to police, claiming Atoigue later put the animal’s body in a trash bag before throwing it in a nearby dumpster.

When Killeen police officers arrived at the scene, they searched the dumpster and found what was estimated to be a 6- to 8-week-old puppy, which was “lifeless and stiff,” the news station reported.

The dog was later taken to the El Centro Pet Medical Center, where officials determined the pup had blood in its lungs and stomach. It also had bruising on its head and “scrapes on its legs, tail and neck,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by KCEN-TV.

Atoigue, who allegedly told police the dog was hers after it was found in the dumpster, has reportedly been charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals.

A spokesperson for the Killeen Police Department was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Fox News on Wednesday.

Woman accused of beating 73-year-old victim during burglary

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A judge ordered a woman, accused of beating a 73-year-old East Price Hill woman while robbing her, held on one million dollars bond. Tameka Sanders is charged with aggravated burglary.

Sanders' attorney asked for a low bond, saying his client doesn't know anything about this burglary or the victim.

Assistant prosecutor David Wood asked for an "exceptionally" large bond.

Wood said Sanders was pregnant when she knocked on the victim's home on Elberon Avenue in February and asked to use the restroom. When Sanders came out of the restroom, Wood said she was swinging a large rock inside of a skull mask and hit the victim repeatedly.

Wood said Sanders then let in her accomplice and both beat the victim until she was semi-conscious. The victim told police that Sanders kept telling her, "you will die tonight".

The victim was taken to UC Medical Center with a broken nose, dislocated shoulder and a concussion. She also had cuts and bruises.

Police were able to link her alleged accomplice to the crime with DNA. The victim also identified Sanders and the accomplice through a photo lineup.

Despite what her attorney claimed, Wood said Sanders had admitted to the attack.

At the time she was charged in this burglary, Sanders was already in jail. She's been accused of using a stun gun repeatedly on a woman's neck to steal her purse.

VIDEO: 78-Year-Old Man Beaten, Robbed, And Carjacked After Pulling In Restaurant

Police are searching for three suspects who brutally attacked a 78-year-old man and left him lying in a parking lot.

Las Vegas, NV – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has released shocking surveillance footage in an attempt to locate three men who brutally attacked a 78-year-old man during a carjacking (video below).

“Once you see this video, it should shock everybody,” LVMPD Captain Laz Chavez said during a press conference on Wednesday morning.

“This is one of our most vulnerable victims in Las Vegas — the elderly,” he added

“This man provided no resistance, and yet these men savagely beat him, took his car keys, took his cell phone, and even after they retrieved all that, they went back and beat him some more,” Capt. Chavez said.

The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday outside a restaurant on Fremont Street, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The retiree had just pulled into the parking lot, and was planning to head into the restaurant to pick up a meal.

But as he got out of his gold 2001 Ford Taurus, he “almost immediately [was] savagely attacked,” by three men, Capt. Chavez said.

A man in a white shirt approached the senior citizen and grabbed at something in the man’s hand, security footage showed.

Simultaneously, a man with a red backpack reached for the victim’s waistband from behind, and the third assailant shoved the elderly man to the ground.

The victim fell onto his back and attempted to cover his face and head while the third attacker punched him repeatedly.

The assailants left the injured man lying on the pavement, and sped off with his vehicle and cell phone, police said.

“He complied, gave his car keys, and yet he was still attacked,” Capt. Chavez said, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “This cannot be tolerated.”

The captain said he met with the victim at the hospital on Wednesday morning, and that he vowed to find the men responsible for the vicious attack.

“I promised him that this community would come together and do what we can to find these three men who, for no apparent reason, none whatsoever, attacked this man,” he said.

Capt. Chavez did not disclose the extent of the victim’s injuries, but said they were “pretty substantial.”

“His eyes are swollen, his face is beaten,” he said.

Police described the suspects as thinly-built black males in their late teens to early 20s, and said they believe they likely live in the area.

The captain specifically addressed the suspects during the press conference, and urged them to surrender.

“It’s time for you to turn yourselves in now,” he said. “Give him back his dignity.”

Capt. Chavez said that witnesses told police they have seen the men in the neighborhood in the past.

They also matched the description of several suspects associated with a series of attempted vehicle burglaries and other “low-level street crimes,” in the area, the captain noted.

He urged locals to watch the video closely, and to contact the LVMPD if they have information that might aid investigators.

Police said that apprehending the men had become the “number one priority of Downtown Area Command,” and that they will face numerous charges – including attempted murder, KTNV reported.

“If we don’t catch these men now, they could absolutely do this again to someone else,” Capt. Chavez said.

UPDATE: Fox5Vegas reports that four suspects were arrested Wednesday night, and that they had gone on a crime spree specifically targeting the elderly.

Dad convicted of beating baby daughter to death

A Brooklyn man has been convicted of beating to death his 16-month-old daughter during a Father’s Day visit.

Jurors late Wednesday found Shaquan Taylor guilty of second-degree murder for the June 18, 2017, killing of tot Nylah Lewis.

The 20-year-old Coney Island man faces up to life behind bars for the heartless slaying.

The child’s mother, Tammy Lewis, testified she’d dropped her daughter off for holiday time with her dad, but then received an afternoon text saying Nylah was having trouble breathing.

She told jurors that when she arrived, her daughter was face down on the couch, unconscious, with bruising and swelling to her face.

Horrifying surveillance footage shows Lewis leaving the apartment with her limp daughter in her arms as she calls 911 — and Taylor then racing up and punching her in the face.

The disturbing video shows him grabbing Nylah from Lewis and carrying the baby, her body dangling dangerously, around the building as he tries to find a way to escape.

Taylor was later found hiding in the bushes by the building, and Nylah was admitted to Coney Island Hospital.

The 16-month-old was in a coma for five days before she died. Doctors said she’d suffered a fractured skull, loss of oxygen to the brain and bruising all over her tiny body.

“On a day when the importance of fathers is celebrated, this defendant committed an unforgivable crime against his own child,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement. “Instead of protecting and nurturing his daughter, the defendant caused the injuries that tragically ended her short life.”

Taylor is scheduled to return to court for sentencing Nov. 7.

Brooklyn dad gets 25 years to life for fatal Father's Day beating of toddler daughter

The Coney Island dad convicted of beating his toddler daughter into a fatal coma during a Father’s Day visit last year was sentenced to 25 years to life Wednesday.

Before hearing his fate, Shaquan Taylor, who was 18 years old at the time of the slaying, asked for leniency through his lawyer based on his age.

The judge said such mercy wasn’t an option because Taylor already had a prior violent offense settled with his youth in mind.

“This case is an unspeakable tragedy. A baby’s dead at the hands of another child. He was 18 years old. He’s a child himself,” Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Vincent Del Giudice said.

Taylor was convicted of murder last month when a jury found he pummeled his 16-month-old daughter Nylah Lewis so badly on June 18, 2017, she ended up in a coma with a fractured skull.

Devastated mom Tammy Lewis told the court Wednesday she’ll never recover from the experience of removing little Nylah from life support five days later.

“When I had to make the decision to take her off life support, it was so hard. It was like a part of me died too,” Lewis said in a victim impact statement read to the judge by Assistant District Attorney Frank Degaetano .

“I don't think I ever want to have more kids,” she said. “I feel like (Taylor) should stay in jail for the rest of his life. Who wants him on the streets? Who wants him around kids?”

Taylor’s also sentence included five years for assaulting Lewis.

Prosecutors said they have surveillance video showing Taylor “viciously” beating Lewis as the terrified mom held her limp baby in her arms and called 911 the day of the deadly abuse.

Degaetano also reminded the court of disturbing text messages Taylor sent Lewis as their daughter was clinging to life.

“He referred to his daughter as she is dying before him as being nasty,” Degaetano said.

“I cannot imagine, and I wonder what could be a more horrific crime than this,” the prosecutor said.

“It was amazing being her mom. I learned so much from being her mom. I was proud to be her mom,” Lewis wrote in her statement.

She said when Taylor asked to spend time with Nylah that Father’s Day, she thought it was a good sign.

Taylor previously told the Daily News during a jailhouse interview that he initially asked Lewis to end the pregnancy.

“I was happy he stepped up and wanted to be her father,” Lewis said in her statement.

Outside the courtroom, a man who identified as Taylor’s father turned emotional.

“I’m a victim too. That’s my grandbaby,” the man said.

Lewis declined to comment outside court, but her grandmother Janice Mumford said the family was pleased with the lengthy sentence.

“I’m so happy I don't know what to do with myself,” Mumford said, claiming Taylor showed “no remorse.”

“I’m just hoping Tammy can get better,” she said.

I watched (did not listen to) the video. The 78 year old "appeared" Caucasian. I suppose we play GTR of the victim in these many situations.

bold: Heard this s*** so many times it sounds like it is the reading of "paragraph 26" of a police handbook. Useless waste of time to prepare the statement.

In the years before the Great Society... three representative "men" (read negros) would have been apprehended immediately, beaten within an inch of dying and incarcerated for a significant period of time. The negro community... knowing the actual perps... would have turned the actual perps in had the "wrong nigras" been apprehended. Worked for decades prior to the big eared SOB LBJ dooming the country with the CRA 1964 and his Great Society. The good "blacks" (as people like to call them now) policed their own to prevent things such as I described from happening.

That is where the phrase originated in early books and movies (no longer available) often read/heard years ago:

    "You've got the wrong nigger."

Daycare worker admits killing eight-month-old girl by suffocating her with a blanket after complaining sh

    Link- https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-old-girl.html

A daycare worker has pleaded guilty to killing an eight-month-old girl by smothering her with a blanket because she wouldn't go to sleep.

Walden (left) was said to have been frustrated at Bowman (right) because the baby wouldn't go to sleep

Leah Walden, 24, admitted the murder of little Reese Bowman, at Rocket Tiers Learning Center, Baltimore in May 2017, at a court hearing on Tuesday, wbaltv reports.

Walden was sentenced to 70 years in prison for the horrifying killing by Judge Althea Handy who sobbed as she handed it down.

In heartbreaking scenes, Reese's father Justin Bowman wept as he told the court: 'I will never see my girl take her first steps, hold her, kiss her, comfort her when she's scared, hear her say "I love you". I am devastated.'

Turning to Walden and pointing he said: 'Reese Annette Bowman accomplished more in her short life than this woman ever will.'

Walden tried to explain her actions by saying she had snapped and had not been given appropriate training or assistance for her job.

Assistant State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said Walden had told a co-worker, 'Girl, I'm frustrated. I'm sick of this little b****. I hate this little b****. She makes me want to punch her in the face.'

The court heard that Walden returned from lunch and became frustrated that baby Reese would not sleep.

She then slapped her and pinned her down before piling blankets over her face and suffocating her.

Walden initially claimed she had fed the baby and put her in a crib for a nap before coming back 45 minutes later to find the girl unresponsive.

But her argument unraveled after the center's CCTV revealed the truth.
Walden was seen covering the baby with 'excessive blankets for long periods of time'.

She was also filmed covering the child's face with a pillow, violently snatching the baby and slapping her.

CCTV footage played in court showed the baby kicking wildly as the enraged daycare worker smothered her with a blanket.

Judge Handy broke down as she watched the CCTV video of the baby's murder shortly after the young daycare worker entered the court.

Composing herself, she said: 'I'm just reflecting on everything I heard. There are tears everywhere in this courtroom.'

Walden accepted that the murder was premeditated but said: 'There was not a time in my heart that I wanted this to happen.'

Her sister Samantha Carlton told the court: 'She's not a monster. She's not an evil person. She was frustrated.'

Then she turned to the Bowmans and said: 'I'm so sorry. With all my heart, I'm sorry.'

Mr Bowman told the court that Reese's older brother Sawyer also attended the center and was upstairs when she was killed.

I can't think of anything that would lead me to be in charge of such a facility, or start one of my own. Total minefield.

I disagree. You only want to dump it in water that is only a couple of inches deeper than it is tall. That way, it can almost breathe,
but just can't quite get to the surface.

an interesting thought indeed dawnbringer - and I agree completely. here's another idea - we could stake it out on the beach at low tide at just the right location for high tide to cover it by a couple of inches . . .

On Monday, police said two suspects assaulted a blind man, who had a seeing eye dog with him at the time, on a Metro train around 8 a.m.

The assault happened at the Rhode Island Avenue Metro Stop on the Red Line.

Police released photos of the two suspects that they say were taken by witnesses.

Police: Memphis woman charged after deadly knife attack near St. Louis

    November 29, 2018

ST LOUIS, Mo. — A Memphis woman was taken into custody just outside of St. Louis after a cold-blooded murder inside a Family Dollar store this week.

According to the Breckenridge Hills Police Department, Cameka Cathey entered the business, grabbed two knives from a shelf and then stabbed a 65-year-old woman named Marybeth Gaeng in the head. As employees were helping the victim, Cathey approached and stabbed the woman again before calmly walking out the front door.

The victim was rushed to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Police said Cathey admitted to the stabbing, but didn’t provide authorities with a motive. At this time, police believe she and the victim had no prior interaction and that Cathey chose a victim at random.

Cathey was arrested in the store parking lot. She was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. She is being held at the St. Louis County Jail without bond.

Neighbor charged with murders of Mayfield Heights woman, daughter

    November 26, 2018

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio-- The Mayfield Heights Police Department arrested a suspect in the deaths of a woman and her 8-year-old daughter.

Dominique C. Swopes, 27, is charged with two counts of aggravated murder and aggravated arson.

The fire happened early Tuesday morning on Longwood Road in Mayfield Heights. Investigators said Rebecca Pletnewski, 41, was stabbed to death before the blaze. Firefighters pulled her daughter, Olivia Schneider, from an upstairs bedroom and took her to the hospital, but she died of smoke inhalation.

Police brought in Swopes for questioning that same day and he was released later that night.

Funeral Monday for mother and daughter killed in Mayfield Heights

"During the investigation over the next few days we were able to collect incriminating evidence against Swopes," police said in a news release on Monday.

He was arrest Friday without incident.

Pletnewski was an intensive care nurse at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. She leaves behind another daughter, 4-year-old Vivienne, who was not at home at the time of the fire.

Pletnewski and Schneider were laid to rest on Monday.

CHERRY HILL, NJ - Two women may face upgraded charges in connection with a violent assault at a Cherry Hill Wawa that was captured on video and circulated on social media.

Destiny Davis and Diamond Howard were arrested in the assault at the Route 38 Wawa on Nov. 17, immediately after it happened, according to 6 ABC. They were initially charged with disorderly conduct and fined $200. However, police are looking to upgrade the charges after seeing a video from the incident that was posted on Facebook. Patch posted the video below.

The video shows one of the women standing on a counter inside the store and spitting on an older woman. Another young woman then comes up to the older woman, spits on her, knocks her to the ground and punches her until an employee breaks up the fight. As they are being separated, a man is trying to help the victim up, but she is disoriented and unable to stand. Information about the victim has not been released, but police say she was treated for injuries to her face and head.

Police told CBS 3 the fight began when the older woman told the younger women not to curse while they were talking in the store. Police didn't have video of the incident when they initially arrested the women, but are reportedly looking to upgrade the charges. A spokesperson for the police department wasn't immediately available to Patch on Thursday.

Oh yes, whenever I am driving and listening to whatever passes for news, I have learned that if the race of a perp or victim is not mentioned, then they have to be black. EDIT: I just realized that of course, if a black person is the victim, especially if the perp is not black, then their race will be used as the focal point of the story until they find something juicier

Day care worker accused of body slamming toddler

    Dec 6, 2018

Smyrna, GA (CBS46) A Cobb County daycare worker is in jail after police say she attacked a toddler.

Jonee Hamilton, 20, is facing charges of aggravated assault and child cruelty after police say she picked up the 16 month-old girl and slammed her down onto a thin mat at the Oxford Babies facility on Church Street in Smryna.

Hamilton also allegedly pushed the child's head into the mat afterward. The child had a swollen lip and cuts on the inside of the mouth.

Police say she attacked the toddler because she refused to take a nap.

The incident was recorded on surveillance video.

Officials with Oxford Babies say Hamilton passed all background checks and has no prior history of any type of improper behavior.

She was terminated from her job and is being held without bond at the Cobb County Jail.

    McPherson -photo Sedgwick County

Just after 4:30p.m. Friday November 16, police responded to a suspicious character with a weapons call at a residence in the 1000 Block of North Poplar in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

A suspect later identified as 30-year-old Carlett McPherson was reported beating a dog with a tire iron and releasing other dogs to attack a victim dog.

Mother charged after body of 6-month-old found in South Carolina landfill

HONEA PATH, S.C. – A Florida woman has been charged after officials said Thursday that a baby's body had been found in a South Carolina landfill, according to WHNS.

Thom Berry, a spokesman for the State Law Enforcement Division said teams were searching for the body of 6-month-old Anthony Frost from Johnston, a town in Edgefield County.

Berry said the baby's body was placed in a dumpster in Edgefield County area at some point over the weekend. The contents of that trash bin were then brought to the Greenville County landfill.

Berry said Thursday that Vernita Jones, 25, from Clewiston, Fla., has been charged with homicide by child abuse in Edgefield County.

According to the arrest warrant, she admitted to suffocating and killing the baby boy on Nov. 24 in Edgefield County.

The search began on Wednesday. Greenville County deputies were also assisting in the search at the Twin Chimneys landfill off Augusta Road in Honea Path.

Berry said thanks to landfill records, the teams knew when the truck in question arrived, and what part of the landfill it emptied its contents, an area that was approximately 60 feet by 100 feet.

Teams carefully excavated that section of the landfill and Berry announced just after 10 a.m. that the baby had been recovered and the coroner had been called to the scene.

Jones, who according to SLED just recently came to South Carolina, has been interviewed numerous times since the investigation began. Right now she is currently being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center.

Woman accused of pouring hot grease on victim

    December 5 at 7:31 PM

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A 61-year-old woman is accused of pouring hot grease on another person during a dispute.

Charlene Thompson was embroiled in an argument when she dumped the grease on the victim Sunday at a residence on Hawaiian Terrace in Mt. Airy, court records show.

The victim suffered severe burns to their back and arm, court records show.

Cincinnati police officers said the injuries were visible when they arrived on scene.

Thompson was arrested on a charge of felonious assault and booked into the Hamilton County jail.

At the time of her arrest, Thompson was wanted on two outstanding warrants for criminal damaging or endangering, court records show.

In court on Wednesday, the prosecutor said her bond amount should be significant.

“I’m requesting a high bond as the court is well aware, burns are some of the most devastating, painful, debilitating, long-term injures that someone can suffer," Assistant Hamilton County Prosecutor David Wood said.

The judge ordered Thompson to stay away from the victim and have no contact with her until further advised by the court.

Her bond was set at $15,000 and her case will go before a grand jury on Dec. 14.

Smith County Sheriff's Office arrests three in connection to suspected slaying of elderly man

Three East Texans have been arrested and booked into the Smith County Jail in connection with the slaying of an elderly man who was found on the floor of an outbuilding behind his home on Friday.

Brentavian Henderson, 22, of Bullard, Krystal Dixon, 25, of Tyler, and Tationna Mosley, 19, of Tyler, each face a capital murder charge and are being held on $750,000 bonds.

Law enforcement officials say they found the body of 77-year-old Roy Bowins around 3:45 p.m. Friday after a caller requested they do a welfare check at Bowins’ home.

When deputies arrived in the 23000 block of County Road 121, located near Bullard in the southeastern part of Smith County, they saw his body after looking through the window of a locked outbuilding.

Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said during a news conference on Saturday that his office had received information from the Tyler Police Department that led them to the Four Corners area of Tyler, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 and West Northwest Loop 323.

Once there, Smith said deputies detained one of the female suspects and that after an interview it was determined she was involved in the case. Deputies received information from the interview that led them to the other female suspect.

Law enforcement officials say Henderson had reportedly been driving the victim’s 2015 Chevrolet Impala since around Nov. 13.

Henderson was taken into custody at a hotel in the Four Corners area around 1 p.m. Saturday.

Smith said Bowins was beaten severely and that it appears the offense occurred around Nov. 13. His was body was taken to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences Friday night.

“Because of the weather we’ve been having, there was thankfully no significant decomposition, which really helps us in an investigation,” Smith said.

The sheriff’s office has already begun to receive information from the autopsy. On Saturday Smith said he expected the crime scene would continue to be processed for most of the day.

He added that deputies believe the three people they have in custody in relation to the crime are the only people involved, though he noted that could change.

In addition to the victim’s vehicle, Smith said more stolen property has been recovered.

Arrest warrant affidavit said murder suspects traded victim's TVs for cocaine, rented victim's car to a prostitute

The suspects in the murder of a 77-year-old Bullard man stole his TVs and traded them for crack cocaine and rented his vehicle to a prostitute for $5, according to the arrest warrant affidavits obtained from the Smith County Courthouse.

Brentavian Henderson, 22, of Bullard, Krystal Dixon, 25, of Tyler, and Tationna Mosley, 19, of Tyler, each face a capital murder charge stemming from the beating death of Roy Bowins.

Law enforcement officials found Bowins' body on Nov. 23 when they were called by the Tyler Police Department to do a welfare check at Bowins’ home in the 23000 block of County Road 121 in Bullard.

The 19-year-old Tyler woman who rented Bowins' stolen car from Dixon contacted Tyler police on Nov. 23.

She told the responding officer that three people were trying to frame her for a murder. She said Dixon came to her house and blocked her in her driveway and wanted to fight because she had kept the vehicle all night while she was working as a prostitute.

She told police Dixon's passenger drove the stolen Impala away from her residence.

She got a photograph of the license plate on the stolen Chevy Impala she had rented from Dixon and told police Dixon was staying at the Travelodge hotel near the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 and West Northwest Loop 323, the area known as the "Four Corners."

The Tyler Police Department obtained Bowins' information using the license plate number and contacted the sheriff's office about the situation. Deputies went to Bowins' property and found his body in a storage shed.

Bowins was found with what looked like blunt force trauma to the neck, face and head, according to the affidavit.

Meanwhile, police went to the hotel and found Dixon and Mosley and took them to the sheriff's office for questioning.

The affidavit said Dixon told investigators she went to Bullard on Nov. 12 with Henderson, who is her brother, and Mosley, who is Henderson's girlfriend.

Mosley said Henderson told her he wanted to commit a burglary and take televisions from elderly people, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit said Dixon dropped Henderson off near Bowins' property and she waited with Mosley in a nearby church parking lot.

Awhile later, Henderson drove Bowins' Impala to the church parking lot and met Dixon and Mosley, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit went on to say Dixon followed Henderson to a flooded bridge near the Antioch community in southern Smith County, where they intended to sell the stolen TVs.

Their plan changed when they got to the flooded bridge and were not able to go to the neighborhood. That's when Henderson put the TVs in Dixon's vehicle and she followed him back to Bowins' property so Henderson could return the stolen Impala, according to the affidavit.

When Henderson got back into Dixon's vehicle, he told her and Mosley that he thought he had killed Bowins.

"Dixon stated when Henderson got back in the vehicle he stated it was either him or me and I think I killed him," the affidavit reads.

Mosley told investigators Henderson was agitated when he got back in the vehicle and admitted to moving Bowins' body to a storage shed, according to the affidavit.

Dixon said she drove Henderson and Mosley to a drug house where Henderson traded the TVs for crack cocaine and smoked it before Dixon took them back to their room at the Travelodge, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit said Dixon told investigators Henderson and Mosley came to her room at the Lone Star Inn the next day to borrow her vehicle so they could go burn Bowins' Impala.

Mosley told investigators she and Henderson borrowed Dixon's vehicle to go back to Bowins' residence to get the Impala, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit said Mosley said they took the vehicle to a wooded area near the Antioch neighborhood, where Henderson hid it and threw the keys into the woods.

Mosley went on to tell investigators she and Henderson went back to the area about a week later. She said they used a flashlight to find the keys and Henderson drove the Impala to an apartment complex in Tyler, according to the affidavit.

Dixon told investigators she told the woman who rented the Impala for $5 on Nov. 22 that it was stolen.

Bowins' body was taken to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

The sheriff's office believes Henderson, Dixon and Mosley are the only suspects in the murder.

Henderson, Dixon and Mosley remain in the Smith County Jail, each on $750,000 bonds.
