Man stopped for shoplifting found carrying thousands of doses of heroin, human teeth

    December 28, 2017

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (AP) — Police say they found thousands of doses of heroin, a gun and human teeth on a man detained during a suspected shoplifting investigation at a South Carolina Walmart on Christmas Eve.

Officers tell the Sun News of Myrtle Beach they charged 21-year-old Tavon Malik Stanley of Calabash, North Carolina, with crimes including heroin trafficking and drug possession.

Officials at a North Myrtle Beach Walmart detained Stanley after they saw a person with him allegedly take around $25 worth of items without paying for them. Stanley had a Ruger 9 mm handgun and more than $2,500 in cash, and officers found dozens of pills, thousands of doses of heroin and two human teeth in his backpack.

Stanley was released from jail on bond. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.

A few pages back we had another kid killed over taking a cookie; IIRC, it was a grandmother who killed her grandson.

A bit more on this story...

Prosecutors: Man killed stepson who wanted a cookie, ordered kids to sleep next to his body

Pastor kills wife, attempts suicide after murder in Arkansas

    Dec 31, 2017

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. - An Arkansas pastor attempted suicide after shooting his wife in their home.

The incident happened Saturday, Dec. 30. in the 100 block of Oakland Street, the Helena-West Helena Police Department told FOX13.

When the officers arrived to the scene around 10 p.m., they heard a gunshot coming from inside the residence.

After entering the home, police located Chonda Owens, 50, who was dead upon arrival.

She was dead from apparent gunshot wound.

The victim’s husband, Lyndon Burkett, 51, was air-lifted to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was listed in critical condition once he was air-lifted.

According to the police report, police received a call from a woman claiming Burkett punched her in the face before they arrived at the home.

Two young children were inside of the home when the crime took place, but neither were harmed, and both were transported to the police station.

    This is an ongoing investigation.

Man accused of killing girlfriend in New Year’s Day homicide
    January 1, 2018

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - It's just a few hours into the New Year and Shelby County deputies are already investigating their first homicide of 2018.

Deputies say a "domestic dispute" ended with a woman being shot and killed early this morning.

The shooting happened on Ragan Farm Drive not far from Crumpler and East Holmes Road.

31-year-old Corry Merriweather is charged with first-degree murder and reckless endangerment.

He's accused of killing his girlfriend, 29-year-old Chandra Mays, at his home.

One neighbor says he's not surprised by Merriweather's actions.

"From the little I do know about him, I wouldn't say he's a nice guy."

The neighbor didn't want to be identified, but he tells WREG Merriweather didn't make a good impression.

"He was just a suspicious character. He really was, and he wouldn't work," the neighbor said.

Deputies say Mays was visiting her boyfriend when she was shot and killed.

They found Mays with a gunshot wound and ruled the shooting a homicide.

It's still unclear what led to the shooting and if the incident happened inside the home.

But just hours into the New Year, a neighbor says he heard several gunshots.

"Initially I heard three, but if my memory serves me right I heard several more after that," the neighbor said.

The news of Mays' death began to spread like wildfire Monday afternoon.

"I was in disbelief. I couldn't believe it, but I didn't really know him like that. Hey, it's crazy out here man," said neighbor Glenn Smith.

Shelby County authorities are now investigating their first homicide of 2018. There were only five homicides in the county last year.

"It's very disheartening, but what can you do. It's a great area, but neighborhoods are what you make it. It's not about where you are, it's about who's in the neighborhood," Smith said.

"Any place could be great, it's just all about the people."

WREG will continue to follow this story and keep you updated."

Woman accused of setting fire that burned Phoenix condo

    Jan. 2, 2018

A 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of arson following a Phoenix condominium fire early Tuesday, Phoenix police said.

Tameika Austin is accused of setting fire to items in her condo near 35th and Glendale avenues around 5 a.m., police said.

The damage was contained to her unit, but units next to hers were evacuated as crews extinguished the fire.

Austin was booked on one count of arson of an occupied structure, Phoenix police said.

She was detained early Tuesday as a person of interest.

No further details were immediately available.

Maryland man indicted in 2017 workplace shooting that killed three

    Reuters•January 2, 2018

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Maryland man accused in a 2017 workplace shooting that left three co-workers dead at a kitchen countertop company was indicted on first-degree murder charges on Tuesday, prosecutors said.

A Harford County grand jury indicted Radee Prince, 38, on three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder, as well as firearms charges, for the October attack near Baltimore, county prosecutor Joseph Cassilly's office said in a statement.

Prince is accused of shooting to death three co-workers and wounding two others at the Edgewood, Maryland, company before fleeing in a vehicle.

A surveillance camera inside the business captured the shootings, the statement said.

Prosecutors said Prince did not have an attorney.

Prince, of Elkton, remains jailed in Wilmington, Delaware, for a shooting that took place there hours after the deadly attack in Maryland. He faces a charge of attempted first-degree murder stemming from the shooting of a man at an auto shop.

Police have said Prince has a lengthy criminal record, including 15 felony convictions, and was associated with all six victims in the October shootings.

3 men arrested for breaking into NASCAR team owner's home

    Jan 3, 2018

LEXINGTON, N.C. - Authorities say three men have been arrested for breaking into the home of NASCAR team owner Richard Childress.

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office identified the three as 20-year-old Niquan Victorin and 18-year-old Chantz Kade Hines, both of Winston-Salem, and 18-year-old Armeka Vantonne Spinks of Salisbury. They're charged with attempted first-degree burglary and first-degree trespassing and jailed under $250,000 bond apiece. It's not known if they have attorneys.

According to the sheriff's office, three people armed with military-type weapons attempted to break into the home on Dec. 18. Childress, who was at home with his wife, grabbed his gun and fired at the intruders, who fled.

The sheriff's office said Winston-Salem police told them that the guns used at the Childress home matched firearms reported stolen during a Dec. 15 break-in.

I picture the word "dumbarse" written on the foreheads,
of these savage feral pavement apes.

Remember, their average IQ is 70, so many of them are
simply morons. Even calling them morons is a stretch,
as that term indicated mild intellectual disability,
which has been erased from the lexicon.

They dont have jobs, never have had jobs, and cannot have jobs
simply because they are too stupid, so they turn to their culture,
which demands actions of them, such as this attempted burglary.

All of them are basterds, simply in this world for that damned
LBJ welfare check. It would appear, that they will now be
joining their fathers, in the county lockup, or grey bar hotel.

At least its three more off the street, and into their proper cages.

Please be safe everyone, and please arm up.

    Regards to all deplorables.

    America’s 2017 Body Count
America’s non-White cities are essentially war zones. The murder rate in these four cities tells the story.

    January 4, 2018

What does 2018 hold in store for our domestic combat zones? Clearly, nothing good. Now that the 2017 death tolls are final, let’s take a look a four of the largest dying (literally) cities in this country. They represent a grim epitaph on the past year. Also, bear in mind that this article only refers to murder rates. These are only about a quarter of the opioid death rates in these locales.

    Baltimore
At one time, Baltimore was a thriving White port city full of industrial jobs. Now, it’s got an economy largely based around EBT cards and other benefits. It proudly boasts a per capita murder rate that led the nation in 2017. Public safety has worsened to such a degree that at one point the city contracted “Persistent Surveillance Systems” to conduct aerial reconnaissance every single day. A Cessna flew over the city in a loop in order to provide real-time footage of the fray to an analytical team. The violence increased nonetheless.

In 2017, community activists attempted two truly innovative initiatives. They simply pleaded for their people to desist from pulling triggers for the duration of a single weekend. Both of these “Nobody Shoot Anybody” campaigns failed in short order. It shouldn’t then come as a surprise that paying utility bills is not a priority for the Black residents of Baltimore. Consequently, the city is struggling to maintain its aging water infrastructure. In the future, perhaps its denizens will be too thirsty to kill each other.

    Kill count: 343

    Chicago
The Windy City murder rate has actually dropped by about 15% from 2016. That’s been hailed as “a grim sign of improvement” by USA Today. The trouble is that going from an appalling level of violence to a slightly less appalling level of violence doesn’t constitute real progress. Also, one of the distinguishing features of genocidal internecine bloodshed is that it leaves progressively fewer participants. So, at some point this sort of homicide has to reach a peak and begin declining as less and less live people are around to kill. That certainly could be the phenomena we’re observing in Chiraq.

Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin seems to agree. Last month, he traveled to NYC to beg the UN Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Support to deploy international troops in the self-embattled neighborhoods of his Black constituents. One of the areas he’s pleading to be placed under UN occupation includes the South Side of Chicago, which is the site of the future Obama Presidential Library. According to Boykin, the UN forces have “been able to help in places like Africa…to help minority and vulnerable populations.” To be honest, it’s difficult to argue against this line of reasoning.

President Trump rhetorically asked “What the hell is going on in Chicago?” at an FBI graduation ceremony. He was immediately denounced as an unhinged racist. The police pension fund, and likely the city itself, will be insolvent by the time he finishes his first term in 2021. White taxpayers are fleeing in droves. While they’d rather die than be called a “racist,” their wheels do all the talking necessary.

    Wounded: 2,937
    Kill count: 675

    Philadelphia
Back east, the Philadelphia City Council voted 14-3 to empower the city to force convenience store owners to remove safety glass at their sales counters. This outraged Asian shopkeepers, who justifiably argued that these barriers are the only thing standing between them and getting shot over a bottle of purple sugar water. The initiative was meant to allow Black Philadelphians to shop with “dignity,” in order to improve their temperament and thus the city’s deteriorating security situation.

Rendered blind to reality by the privileges conferred by their skin color, the White residents of Philadelphia simply cannot understand that when they’re being set upon by a mob of “teens,” they’re actually on the receiving end of blows stuck out of the righteous desire for dignity. Philadelphia can look forward to a much more tranquil future once these paranoid Asians take down their safety glass.

    Wounded: 983
    Kill count: 214

    Detroit
All three of these major municipalities mentioned above suffered “great fires” in their pasts, but these infernos served as mere bumps on the road to a prosperous future. Their histories serve as a testament to the fact that a city can survive being literally burnt to ash as long as an appropriate demographic still calls it home.

This brings us to Detroit. Once the industrial capital of the world, its only use now is to serve as a predictive model for other American cities with comparable demographics. Once Whites and industry leave, ruin befalls a municipality. No sadder testament to this reality exists than Detroit. According to statistics released by the FBI back in September, Detroit has the highest violent crime rate of any city in America with over 100,000 residents. The savagery in Detroit receives little national attention anymore, because quite frankly, the whole situation is depressing. From an aerial view, much of it looks like a place that was carpet-bombed and returned to nature.

Headlines have been coming out recently like this one from The Detroit News: “Detroit Has Lowest Homicide Tally in 50 Years.” True, but the population was more than twice as high back then. Moreover, on a per capita basis, the rate is roughly triple what it was before the “uprising” of 1967 that marked the city’s death knell.

    Wounded: 836
    Kill count: 267

This is the sort of violence suffered by Third World countries like Venezuela whose citizens must contend with dysfunctional governance. Yet, we’re grappling with that sort of carnage right here. Inimai Chettiar, the director of the Brennan Center’s Justice Program at NYU School of law has recently whined that the Trump Administration has “wrongly pushed” this issue to “scare Americans” into wanting “aggressive immigration enforcement” because “crime rates this year remain near historic lows.” Two things are guaranteed in 2018: Bodies will keep dropping, but the spin won’t stop.

If we had a sane media establishment, they would be discussing why the US is largely unable to discharge the most basic duty of government, which is the preservation of order for the safety of its citizens. Honesty won’t happen, because that would raise the question of whether or not we’re living in a First World country anymore.

Three Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies have been cleared of any wrongdoing in an October, 2017 shootout with a robbery suspect. Prosecutors said a key piece of evidence in coming to that decision was the dash-cam video from the first-responding deputy. In the video, which has now been released by the State Attorney’s Office, Deputy Patrick Roberts can be seen and heard commanding Demetric Denario Carter to keep his hands up and get on the ground for more than two minutes. Roberts could see a handgun in Carter’s back pocket. Even after backup arrived, Carter refused to comply. Deputy Roberts tased Carter who pulled his gun and fires several shots as he was going to the ground. Deputies responded with fire of their own, wounding Carter who was taken into custody. According to a police report, a bank teller at Warrington Bank called deputies after a suspicious man came in the bank, speaking and acting in a threatening manner. She told dispatch she was afraid he may rob the bank. She also told dispatch that the suspect, later identified as Carter asked her to call police because he didn’t want to take anything out on them. The deputies were not injured in the shootout and Carter was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He now faces three attempted murder charges.

Serial rapist not happy with 77-year prison sentence

A 25-year-old serial rapist, whose victims included a 16-year-old girl, got mouthy Thursday after a Franklin County judge sentenced him to 77 years in prison.

Kaquawn Lane, formerly of Gahanna, refused to sign a form confirming that he would register as a sex offender every 90 days after his release from prison.

“I’ll never get out,” he told Common Pleas Judge Stephen L. McIntosh. “Why would I need to sign the registration? I will never get out. I’ll never get out ... I will die in prison.”

“You deserve it,” a family member of one of his victims said from the gallery.

After several minutes of arguing, McIntosh ordered Lane to sit down and listen to him.

“We’re not talking about a single act here,” the judge said. “We’re talking about multiple acts, committed back-to-back over a period of time. So absolutely, absolutely, in looking at everything I have to look at ... the court is comfortable that the sentence that was imposed here is an appropriate sentence.”

Assistant Prosecutor Kacey Chappelear had asked for a maximum sentence of more than 95 years after Lane pleaded guilty in November to separate attacks on four women over a three-week period in the fall of 2016. His guilty pleas were to four counts of rape, four counts of kidnapping and two gun specifications.

Lane was arrested thanks to the quick thinking of the 16-year-old victim, who got his license-plate number after she was abducted at gunpoint while walking to a bus stop in the 2200 block of Innis Road in Mifflin Township at about 7 a.m. Oct. 22, 2016. He raped and robbed her before dropping her off near where she was kidnapped.

Police used the plate number to track down Lane and obtained a DNA sample. It matched DNA evidence collected from the 16-year-old and three other victims: two attacked on Sept. 30, 2016, and one on Oct. 9, 2016, all in Columbus.

Lane admitted to raping the 16-year-old and a woman who was visiting from Minnesota when she was abducted at gunpoint outside an Easton-area apartment building. He claimed that the sex with the other two women was consensual.

He offered a brief apology in court, saying he hoped the victims “can move through the hurt and damage I’ve caused them.”

The mother of the teenage victim, now 18, spoke on behalf of her daughter, who did not attend the hearing.

“What happened to my daughter was unimaginable for a 16-year-old,” she said. “She’s not the same person anymore ... I’m asking you to never allow this man to ever see the light of day.”

Two other victims spoke, including the Minnesota woman, who flew to Columbus for the hearing.

“He took a part of me in some sense that I don’t think I’ll ever get back,” said the Minnesota woman, who was driven around by Lane in the trunk of a car and forced to withdraw money from an ATM before being raped at a motel. The trauma was so great, she said, that she quit her job and stopped going to school.

The other victim told the judge that a maximum sentence wouldn’t be enough for Lane. “He’s a scumbag,” she said. “He’s a disease to the earth.”

Police: ‘This Person Is Someone That Is Nothing But Pure Evil’
    January 3, 2018

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KMOX) – A 6-year-old is at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, her mother’s boyfriend accused of child abuse after she was tossed, hit a stove and was knocked unconscious for at least two hours before anyone called for help.

It happened in Poplar Bluff on Tuesday, and the little girl’s status is unknown after she was treated for a brain bleed, collapsed lung, broken ribs and bruising all over her body. She was first taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Emergency Room, then flown to Cardinal Glennon in St. Louis.

The suspect is 27-year-old Damien Gaylor, the child’s mother’s boyfriend. Police say they initially were called to the scene and told a 6-year-old had fallen. During interviews with police, he admitted to throwing the child into the corner of a couch and pushing her down, causing her to strike her head against a stove. The child was unconscious, police say, but Gaylor did not try to help the child until her mother, 25-year-old Shakima Eure returned home – which was after about two hours.

Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley made a statement about Gaylor:

“This person is someone that is nothing but pure evil. He needs to be held fully accountable for his despicable actions on an innocent child and hopefully will never see the light of day again.”

Las Vegas police: Suspect throws toilet bowl cleaner at man's face, burning him

    Jan 5, 2018

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) - A man has been arrested after Las Vegas police said he threw chemicals into a person's face last week.

The incident was reported at 5:40 p.m. Dec. 30 in the 4300 block of Boulder Highway, near Desert Inn Road. Police said the suspect, identified as 60-year-old Christopher King, threw concentrated toilet bowl cleaner, Guaranteed Hair and Grease Removal Drain Cleaner, at the victim's face before returning to his trailer.

According to the arrest report, multiple residents of Town and Country called police saying something had been thrown in the victim's face. Upon officers arriving, the victim said his face, mouth and eyes were on fire and various parts of his body felt like they were on fire.

Doctors eventually determined he sustained scarring burns on his face and it is unknown whether he'll be able to see again as there is retinal scarring.

When police located the suspect, they said King was threatening to kill himself with a knife to his throat. He eventually dropped the knife at the officers' commands and was arrested.

King has been charged with mayhem and battery with substantial bodily harm.

The manager of Town and Country provided police with photos showing the suspect throwing the chemicals at the victim in the front office.

Man charged with murder for fatal punch in Sedamsville

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The man accused of killing another man with a punch back in summer, appeared in court. Logan Trice faces a murder charge.

The assistant prosecutor said Trice surprised Richard Ray with a punch to the face on June 30 on Fairbanks Avenue. Ray fell to the ground, striking his head on the concrete.

Ray was taken to UC Medical Center. He died two days later.

Trice's attorney doesn't believe his client murdered Ray. "There's no allegation of intent to kill here. It's a terrible tragedy from everything I can see."

The incident may have been recorded on video.

The assistant prosecutor didn't say anything about a possible motive. Shortly after Ray's death, his sister told Local 12 that it may have had something to do with drugs or he might have owed someone money. She said Ray suffered a work-related back injury that left him addicted to pain pills.

A judge ordered Trice held on $300,000 bond.

HIV-infected ex-school aide pleads guilty to 27 child sex abuse charges

Carlos Bell was set to stand trial on 206 child sex abuse offenses beginning Monday (Charles County Sheriff's Office)

A former Maryland middle school aide and track coach accused of sexually assaulting 42 juveniles pleaded guilty Friday to more than two dozen charges of child sex abuse, officials said.

The Charles County State's Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Carlos Bell entered the guilty plea to 27 counts. His trial on 206 child abuse offenses had been set to begin Monday.

Prosecutors say Bell abused boys at his Waldorf home as well as at his workplace, Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, between May 2015 and June 2017. The state's attorney's office said the ages of the alleged victims ranged from 11 to 17 years old.

Police said Bell allegedly assaulted students without wearing protection, but investigators said they were not aware of any of the victims testing positive for HIV.

Authorities began investigating Bell in December 2016 after a parent found inappropriate text messages on her child's phone. At that time, Bell was removed from his position as track coach at La Plata High School.

In addition to the alleged assaults, police said child pornography was found on Bell's home computer and electronic devices. After Bell was arrested in June, Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry said some of the "graphic images" showed Bell having sex with students.

Bell is scheduled to be sentenced March 28. He faces up to 190 years in prison.

Charles County State’s Attorney Anthony Covington told Fox5 that prosecutors wanted to reach a plea deal with Bell in order to spare the alleged victims from testifying against him.

Woman delivering meals to the homeless attacked with machete

    January 6, 2018

SHELBURNE, Vt. (AP) -- Police say a man in Vermont has used a machete to attack a woman in her 70s as she delivered meals to a motel being used as emergency housing for the homeless.

WCAX-TV reports 32-year-old Burlington resident Abukar Ibrahim is accused of attacking the 73-year-old Meals on Wheels volunteer who was dropping off meals at Harbor Place, which serves as a temporary emergency housing facility. The attack happened Friday in Shelburne.

The woman was sent to a hospital with multiple injuries and later released.

Police say Ibrahim barricaded himself in a room for 2½ hours after the attack before coming out. He was being held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.

U Of M Basketball Star Faces Suspension After Sexual Assault Investigation

    January 5, 2018

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — University of Minnesota basketball standout Reggie Lynch is facing suspension until at least 2020 for his alleged role in a sexual misconduct incident.

Lynch also faces a complete ban from the campus as well. The school began investigating Lynch last fall after a woman filed a complaint, saying he assaulted her in his dorm room in April of 2016.

Sources told WCCO that two women came forward with accusations regarding Lynch and his conduct over the past year, but only one woman went through with the University’s investigation process.

That source also claims they sat down with Gophers Athletics officials in early 2017 and told them, on behalf of the victims, about the experiences with Lynch. They say those Gophers Athletics officials brushed aside the complaint and allowed Lynch to continue playing.

This is not the first time Lynch has been accused of sexual misconduct. In 2016, he was arrested on suspicion of raping a 19-year-old woman. He did not face criminal charges, but was suspended from the team while the incident was investigated.

Lynch can appeal the current suspension he faces, which will be effective Jan. 9, 2018 and will last until at least Aug. 1, 2020.

If Lynch appeals the findings, all sanctions are essentially paused pending the outcome of that appeal. The sanctions will only go into effect once the student either exhausts their appeals or elects not to make an appeal and accepts the recommended sanctions.

Lynch is a native of Edina, Minnesota. He came to the U from the Illinois State University after playing for two seasons there. Last season, he was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

Athletic Director Mark Coyle and head coach Richard Pitino addressed Lynch’s suspension Friday. Coyle said privacy laws prevent him from going into specifics about the allegations, but acknowledged Lynch will not play in Saturday’s game. Lynch is suspended from athletic competition, but still has access to team practices, team medical services, academic support and other team services.

“Reggie is a member of our basketball team,” Coyle said.

Coyle said student athletes receive an average of seven hours training on sexual misconduct and other topics throughout the year. He stressed that the university has procedures and processes in place that are followed for every student athlete involved in an incident like this.

“People should trust the procedures we have in place,” Coyle said. “We have procedures that have been reviewed by outside agencies. We have procedures that people have focused on and worked on and have followed.”

Pitino said he’s spoken to Lynch about the accusations, but wouldn’t get into specifics. He said he has “no idea to predict” if Lynch will play for the Gophers again.

Pitino also said the Gophers “never saw any red flags leading up to this” when recruiting Lynch.

Attorney Lee Hutton told WCCO Lynch will appeal his suspension.

Abby Honold is an advocate for victims of sexual assault, and alumna of the University of Minnesota.

“I think, at a minimum, Gopher Athletics should have taken Reggie off the team a while ago. I know that they were aware of these allegations. I know they were aware of the report,” she said.

Honold feels officials are talking a good game, but doing little to back up what they preach.

“I do think when it came to things like training and education that they were really on board with that,” she said. “But it was harder to get across when I was talking about accountability, because no matter how much training, how much education you have, if there is no accountability when you break those rules, what incentive is there to go by them? And I really brought up Reggie as an example of that.”

Man charged with first-degree murder in shooting death of 17-year-old girl in Green Valley Ranch

Shamil Jefferson allegedly shot and killed Zalynnda Kassogue

Shamil Jefferson has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting that killed a teenager while she sat in her Jeep in Green Valley Ranch.

The shooting happened in the late afternoon on Dec. 21 near East 46th Avenue and Ceylon Court. The teen driver, Zalynnda Kassogue, 17, was pronounced dead that day. Jefferson was arrested the following day by Denver Police.

According to the arrest affidavit, Jefferson had asked a friend to give him a ride to meet a female, potentially an ex-girlfriend, about a promotion. His friend agreed and said after parking in the neighborhood Jefferson said, “That’s her right there.”

Jefferson then jumped out of the car and began shooting through the driver’s side window of a red Jeep parked on the other side of the road, according to the document.

After firing approximately seven shots into the Jeep, Jefferson turned and looked at his friend, who drove away, phoned police and parked in a nearby liquor store parking lot.

After the shooting and without a ride Jefferson ran toward North Flanders Way in Green Valley Ranch where he was hit by a car. According to the document, a black semi-automatic handgun was found at the scene of the hit-and-run crash.

The affidavit states that another friend said Jefferson had stolen his gun. Jefferson had talked to friends before about getting a gun and shooting his ex-girlfriend and then himself.

Jefferson and his friend stopped at an apartment building near 80th and Grant before the shooting. The friend who drove him said Jefferson left the apartment with clothes and a sling bag that potentially carried the gun.

An advisement hearing for Jefferson is scheduled for Thursday.

    Man dies after sucker punch

DAILYKENN.com -- Black teen. White victim.

News reports say they were "arguing" before the fatal blow. Do you believe the reports? I don't.

The following report failed to mention the race of the victims or provide images.

    From mycbs4.com ▼

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) — A 50-year-old man died Saturday night after he was "sucker-punched" during an argument at an apartment complex, Alachua County Sheriff's deputies say.

Sgt. Chris Sims said 50-year-old David Odenthal, Jr. and 17-year-old Jahaad Poole were arguing at Verdant Cove Apartments on SE 41st Drive when Poole asked his friends if he should punch the victim. Sims said Poole "sucker punched" Odenthal, knocking him unconscious and causing him to fall to the ground and strike his head on the pavement.

Sims said Odenthal went into "traumatic arrest" and was taken to UF Shands Hospital where he died Saturday night.

Deputies say they found Poole and charged him with aggravated battery. Sims said they're discussing the case with the State Attorney's Office to discuss more charges since Odenthal died. Poole is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.

Former boyfriend charged in assault of 7-month-old boy with brain damage

    January 6, 2018

Jasmine L. Mendez had previously obtained an order of protection against her former boyfriend, but still regularly asked him to watch her infant son, according to Buffalo police.

Now her 7-month-old lies brain-dead in Oishei Children’s Hospital, and former boyfriend, Frank Redd, has been charged with second degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless assault.

“If the child takes a turn for the worse, those charges could be updated,” said Capt. Jeff Rinaldo, spokesman for the Buffalo Police Department.

It appears the baby was not injured in any single incident but in a series of assaults over a four-month period, Rinaldo said.

A tipster provided the information about Redd, 26, who was arrested early Saturday morning and has no permanent address, Rinaldo said. Redd is not the father of the infant.

Mendez is also 26, and was charged with misdemeanor child endangerment early Friday.

Police are not disclosing Mendez’s address nor the name of her son, Rinaldo said. But police noted Mendez brought the child to the hospital after he had been left in the care of someone else.
Child Protective Services was also notified, according to a police report.

The infant remains in critical condition in the the intensive care unit at Oishei Children’s Hospital. An entire side of the boy’s brain died due to inadequate blood supply, according to a police report.

Mendez pleaded not guilty at her arraignment in Buffalo City Court on Friday morning, where bail was set at $25,000 cash or property. She is being held in the Erie County Holding Center.

Man Allegedly Smashes Vehicles’ Windows With Screwdriver On Parkway East
    January 7, 2018

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A man allegedly damaged multiple vehicles, tried to stab people with a screwdriver and threatened to shoot and kill police officers, state troopers and others on the Parkway East on Sunday afternoon.

It happened around 5 p.m. Sunday evening in the outbound lanes of the Parkway East, just past the Oakland exit.

State police say Daron Bivins, 25, of Pittsburgh, stopped his vehicle and started to damage other vehicles that were disabled on the Parkway East, using a bicycle frame and a screwdriver he obtained from one of the vehicles.

A victim told KDKA he and his family were sitting along the side of the road waiting for AAA after their car broke down when a man approached from out of nowhere.

“He tried taking something from my trunk. I say, ‘What are you doing? This is my car,'” the victim said. “He gets mad and started attacking everybody. He attacked my mother, attacked my sister and attacked me.”

State police say Bivins tried to stab multiple people with the screwdriver.

“The guy was trying to attack the other dude. I said, ‘Alright, everybody just calm down. The police will sort it out.’ He said, ‘Oh, if you’re calling the police, I’m gonna murder you all.’ So I jumped in my car and locked the door, and he started stabbing my windows trying to break into my car,” Matt Casdiglia, of Churchill, said.

“I have two kids under five years old in the backseat of my car, and he grabs ahold of the handle to try to get into our car and stabs, starts stabbing through the side windows with my kids in the back,” Tim Wozniak, of North Allegheny, said.

State police say one victim sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by EMS.

State police say Bivins also grabbed a brick and threw it multiple times into the windshield of a PennDOT tow truck.

State police troopers arrived on the scene, subdued Bivins and took him into custody. State police say, during the arrest, Bivins made a number of threats to shoot and kill police officers, state troopers and PennDOT employees.

Bivins was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. He faces 62 charges, including felony counts of aggravated assault.

State police say there were 11 victims affected by Bivins’ actions. Four civilian vehicles and two PennDOT vehicles were damaged.

Victim's family want teen suspect charged as adult

    NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The family of a 74-year-old man shot and killed while picking up trash wants the 16-year-old suspect to be charged as an adult.

"I think she knows what she is doing and we hope that justice will be served in the best way possible," said Yun Wang, the victim's son.

Police say Myeisha Brown shot Ruxin Wang outside his son's south Nashville home on Nov. 9.

Wang, retired from the education bureau in China, was in Nashville with his wife visiting his son at the time.

"They have done so much for us over the years and now to see him get shot and pass in such a tragic way in a peaceful country, it's unacceptable," Yun Wang said.

Witnesses originally reported seeing several young men, possibly juveniles, running from the scene toward the J.C. Napier housing development.

Police have not said if more suspects are being sought.

"It's extremely sad that such a young person would throw their life away," Yung Wang said.

Brown, who is charged with criminal homicide, is currently being held in juvenile detention. A transfer hearing is set for Jan. 9.

At a hearing Thursday, two witnesses said they were with Brown when the shooting happened. They said they saw Brown lift the gun but didn't see her shoot.

Police have no forensic evidence connecting Brown to the shooting and have not recovered the gun.

"I hope detectives will keep working on the case and bring stronger evidence," Yun Wang said.

NJ man arrested 92 times gets decades in prison for killing son's mom

A New Jersey man, who had been arrested 92 times throughout his life, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for murdering his son’s mother.

Rashon Causey, 40, was sentenced Friday in the deadly November 2016 stabbing of 37-year-old Shanai Marshall in her Burlington City home, NJ.com reported.

Prosecutors argued during Causey’s trial that he went to Marshall’s house just before midnight on Nov. 14, broke down her door and stormed upstairs. They said he stabbed her in the head and in her torso and arms “several times,” the Burlington County Times added.

A jury in October found Causey guilty of murder, burglary and weapons offenses.

The convicted killed already had a long history of violating the law, with a record that allegedly included more than 92 arrests and 11 felonies prior to Marshall’s death.

"Given this defendant's enormous criminal history, and the violent way in which he killed the mother of his child, it is hard to imagine a defendant more deserving of the life sentence the state sought here," Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said.

"However, the court's sentence of 50 years makes it likely that he will never experience freedom again, and that will hopefully afford some degree of comfort to Shanai's loved ones,” Coffina added.

Causey earlier this year rejected a plea deal in Marshall’s death, with his attorney insisting he “wants his day in court,” the Burlington County Times reported. The state’s plea deal offered Causey only 38 years in prison, with 85 percent of his sentence to be served before parole eligibility, if he were to plead guilty.

Causey must serve 42 years before he’s eligible for parole, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Former Armstrong Middle School teacher accused of enticing a child

    January 3, 2018
    STARKVILLE, MS

A former Armstrong Middle School teacher is facing accusations of sexual misconduct concerning a child after being arrested on Wednesday.

The Starkville Police Department, along with the U.S. Marshal Task Force, arrested 37-year-old Lacey McBeath, of Columbus, on felony warrants Wednesday. The warrants were issued for enticement of a child to meet for sexual purposes and enticement of a child to produce visual depiction of sexual conduct.

McBeath was released from the Oktibbeha County Jail after bond was set at $50,000.

Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District spokesperson Nicole Thomas confirmed McBeath is no longer an employee of the school district.

"The District is aware of the charges against him, and we are fully cooperating with Starkville police in this investigation," Thomas said. "As a personnel issue, the District does not have any further information to share at this time."

Thomas said McBeath was hired as an 8th grade science teacher in the summer of 2017 and began working at the school in August.

He is scheduled to appear in Starkville Municipal Court on Monday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.

Man arrested four times since early release from prison

KENNER, La. -- A man recently released early from prison due to a new package of state laws is back behind bars after being arrested four more times since November according to police.

Alton Brooks Jr. was most recently arrested Friday after Kenner Police said he was shoplifting at a Winn Dixie on Williams Boulevard.

The 49-year-old man was released Nov. 1, along with hundreds of other inmates who got another shot at life due to a new set of state laws that overhauled the criminal justice system.

Under Act 280, non-violent offenders are eligible for good time release after serving 35 percent of their sentence.

Kenner Police said Brooks has a 51-page criminal history in Jefferson Parish alone.

Since his Nov. 16 release, Brooks was arrested four times for charges including theft and battery of a police officer. In all four cases, Kenner Police said he was released from the parish correctional center due to overcrowding.

Police said Brooks is being held without bond.
