Detroit man, 91, beaten, doused with gasoline and set on fire

Detroit man, 91, beaten, doused with gasoline and set on fire in homicide with killer still on the loose: police

A 91-year-old man was beaten, covered with gasoline and set on fire in a homicide in northwest Detroit early Monday, police said.

Officers and firefighters discovered Paul Monchnik's body when witnesses reported the blaze at the retired TV repairman’s Bentler Court home around 3 a.m., officials with the Detroit Police Department told WJBK-TV.

Investigators also found a possible gunshot wound on Monchnik’s head, and they’re still waiting for autopsy results before they name his official cause of death, according to the Detroit Free Press. Police have released a security camera image of a suspect they say was seen buying a jug full of gasoline at a nearby store.

They haven’t identified the man, who is described as a 5-foot-9 African-American in his 20s. Monchnik’s 2000 silver Chevrolet Venture van with CNU1721 is still missing, Police Chief James Craig said at a news conference Monday.

“This is a horrible crime, we’re asking for your help,” Craig said. “We’re going to do everything we can to identify this person. We do know there was a burglary."

He continued, "We believe during the suspect's entry into this home, there was an attack. However, in order for the suspect to cover his tracks, he decided to leave the location, obtain some gasoline, return and set the victim and the home on fire.”

Representatives for the police department didn’t immediately respond to a request for any updates in the search for the suspect Monday night.

The victim’s son, Scott Monchnik, told the Daily News his father immigrated to the U.S. from Poland and fixed televisions for almost 50 years. He’s survived by three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren he had recently met face-to-face for the first time two weeks ago.

“This is a heinous act beyond anything. This guy has to get caught and held accountable,” Monchnik said. “We would trust anybody with a conscience to step forward and put this S.O.B. behind bars.”

The family has planned a funeral for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in Farmington Hills. Monchnik's relatives are asking those who feel moved by his death to give to a charity of their choice, his son said.

Teen arraigned in murder of 91-year-old neighbor

DETROIT - A 17-year-old teen was charged with the homicide of a 91-year-old Detroit man.

The teen, George Stewart, is believed to have fatally assaulted Paul Monchnik, then setting the elderly man's house on fire Monday.

Monchnik was found with severe burns and a head injury, and pronounced dead at the scene, in the 20500 block of Bentler on the city's west side.

Stewart has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Murder, and Arson and is expected to be arraigned Nov. 26 in 34th District Court in Romulus before noon.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, "The alleged facts in this case ‎are that the defendant killed his elderly neighbor by beating him and attempting to burn the evidence. The word heinous dies not even begin to describe this crime."
Police say surveillance video from a nearby gas station recorded Stewart driving Monchnik's minivan and buying the gasoline container he used to torch the home
"What could have possibly motivated this?" said Dennis Ferguson. "I'm baffled. I don't know it doesn't make sense to me."

Neighbors like Ferguson are still wrapping their heads around what happened.

"It's shocking because the fact is they would cut his grass," Ferguson said. "I would see them on occasion they would help him out cut his grass, use his driveway on occasion."

Monchnik was retired and worked as a TV repairman and had lived in the neighborhood for more than 50 years.

Stewart's grandfather and namesake said little on Wednesday, broken over the murder of a neighbor and friend. Also broken over the likelihood his grandson was responsible.

"I'm not making any comments about anything regarding his trial," Stewart said. "The only thing my family is really going to say right now is I think its Acts 21: 'But he will not be persuaded let the will of the Lord be done.'

If the people understood as juries, they could say he deserves 100 years without the possibility of pardon by any sitting governor or president, he will be transferred to adult prison and left there until dead.

This is how the ******s act in Africa.

You see, since the time they were brought to these shores,
their innate tribal jungle culture, was kept under tight control,
    mostly by the Africans themselves.

In the 1960's, the controls on the culture started to gradually
be removed. With the disaster of November 4th 2008,
the residual of those controls, were completely removed.

So today, events such as this sad story, of the brutal death
of this elderly White man, are becoming an everyday occurrence.

Only the return of the tree and noose, will put this out of the
pits of hell tribal jungle culture, back into its proper place.

A tall tree, and a very short rope, are what this POS ******
would have gotten just 40 years ago.

******s are savages. IMHO, after over half a century of dealing
with them, I am convinced that they have no souls.
I have seen dogs, act with more of a conscience than your
    average POS ******.

To hell with the entire ****** race.
After all, that is where they have came from.

Cops: 'Cowards' film beating of man with cerebral palsy
Bill Laitner, Detroit Free Press 2:10 p.m. EST December 2, 2015

Editor's note: Audio has been removed due to vulgar language. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office released video of two youths who were charged Tuesday with the beating of a 23-year-old Pontiac man who suffers from cerebral palsy. Oakland County Sheriff's office

Documented in some of the most graphic videos ever released by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, two youths were charged Tuesday with the vicious beating of a 23-year-old Pontiac man who has cerebral palsy.

In the video — filmed by the man’s attackers and posted on their Facebook page, according to police — the victim can be seen lying on the concrete floor of an apartment building’s stairwell while his assailants kick and pummel him while shouting profanities and calling him the "n" word.

"Preying on those in our community who suffer from disabilities will not be tolerated and furthermore, to have the audacity to post their actions on the victim’s page is beyond belief," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement, adding: "I am proud of the deputies at the Pontiac substation and the excellent investigative work that was completed in order to bring these two cowards to justice."

According to police, deputies responded to the Phoenix Place Apartments at 8:30 a.m. Monday, after a caller said an injured man was lying in front of the building. Officers determined that the victim "was robbed of his cell phone while he was inside his apartment and, after following the assailants, he was beaten by them inside a stairwell," said a news release from Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe.

"Detectives learned that the suspects had filmed the assault using the victim's cell phone and then proceeded to post the video to the victim's Facebook page as well as their own personal pages," McCabe said in the release. Hours after the beating, police arrested the suspects and the pair was arraigned Tuesday in 50th District Court in Pontiac, McCabe said.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim, but Frankie Santana, a resident at the complex, told WJBK-TV that he was the man who was assaulted.

"Why would they do that and put it on Facebook? That's how you are going to get caught real quickly," Santana said.

Santana said the men spit and stomped on him, injuring an eye, but that "nothing is broke." He said he had seen one of the men before. Investigators say they believe they followed someone to get inside the building and then walked into the victim's unlocked apartment.

"I crawled through the hallway and knocked on someone's door and that's how I got help," Santana told the TV station.

Nikey Dashone Walker and Shadeed Dontae Bey, both 20 and residents of Pontiac, were charged with home invasion, unarmed robbery and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder; and Judge Michael Martinez assigned $25,000 cash bonds to each, McCabe said. Walker has a prior conviction for auto theft and Bey for larceny, trespassing, possession of stolen goods, resisting police and a drug charge, McCabe said in his release. If convicted, they could be sent to prison for 10 years.

The men didn't yet have lawyers on record to comment on the case, according to a check of 50th District Court records on Wednesday.

Disturbing new details emerge in murder of 91-year-old man

DETROIT (WXYZ) - We’re learning disturbing new details about the murder of a 91-year-old man. Testimony is revealing just how awful his final moments alive may have been.

A doctor told the judge today that accelerant was found inside the stomach of Paul Monchnik.

Prosecutors say 17-year-old George Stewart IV murdered the retired TV repairman back in November. Monchnik was beaten and set on fire in his Detroit home.

Stewart had just moved in with his grandparents, who lived next door to Monchnik.

An assistant Wayne County Medical Examiner told a judge that he discovered about one-fifth of a cup of some type of accelerant inside the elderly man’s stomach. He said Monchnik may have been forced to drink the accelerant or it may have been forced into his throat.

Members of Stewart’s family called police when they recognized his image from surveillance cameras at a nearby gas station – where he purchased gasoline the night of the murder.

The judge did find there’s enough evidence to send the murder case to trial.

George Stewart IV will be back in court later this month.

Thank goodness for planned parenthood or they would be 90% of the population instead of 50%. No, don't give me the 13% fed gov stats, THEY LIE!

If they aren't 50% of the population then why do we have to see one negro for every white on any media, movie, commercials, tv, magazines you name it?

You know what is really scary?

The current buzz in the media of "social justice" for the thugs that pillage, rape, maim and kill.

The socialists and sociologists and advocates for youth are pushing for judicial reforms to NOT put into prison anyone 25 and younger due to recent brain research that supposedly shows that folks 25 and under do not have the cognitive reasoning to understand the implications of their actions.

There is also a lot of folks pushing for clemency and compassion for those who have suffered from traumatic experiences as children and teens.

So, do we then penalize the drug using, pedophile, abusive parents who created these wounded souls?

What is the balance of compassion versus justice.

The big push is to not charge teens and children as adults when they commit heinous crimes against humanity or animals, but provide mental health services to redeem them.

The world is indeed a scary place for the children and teens abused and they survive, and then continue the cycle of abuse and violence. Or they heal and are able to make the choice to not continue on in the path of their parents and community.

May the murdered man rest in peace and justice be served.

I do wonder, why did the grandson move in?

I am sure his juvenile record is sealed and his right to privacy will be honored and the jury will not get the full story on his life.

I am wading through quite a few science lectures from the Mass Inst. Technology on their website, one of them on brain development does indeed say that one part of the human brain is not fully mature until people are in their early 20s, I made a mental note of the implications of that statement but forget the scientific name of the brain component, I'll try and look it up.

When crimes like this occur, i have a problem with the punishment NOT affording the perpetrator the opportunity to TASTE THE PAIN he brought upon innocent other people. The punishment should fit the crime because the "free ride" through life, mere denial of liberty, while furnishing Unearned, shelter, clothing, water, amusement, education, medical care, and FREE FOOD without having to work for that food is a life better than 75% of the worlds innocent, hard working, citizens enjoy and is just WRONG, and nothing even akin to justice for their having committing such merciless savagery.

Those who deliberately CAUSE INJURY, PAIN AN DEATH, should at at least face regular corporal punishment (physical PAIN) daily administered as long as they are allowed to live.

I GUARANTEE that recidivisim would plummet if daily beatings accompanied imprisonment!!
There woud be actual, painful, PUNISHMENT for doing wrong.

Geez, how I wish I had never clicked on this thread!! This upsets me to no end. Actually, I am really pissed off right now! It really burns my cookies when some piece of cr@p like this takes advantage, endangers or kills someone that can't fight back! And don't give me that BS about brains not being mature enough to understand what they are doing is wrong! I've raised three kids who knew before they were ten that "Thou shalt not kill" meant you don't beat the sh!t out of an elderly neighbor, douse him in gasoline and set them on fire!

I know that judgment isn't mine but I'm really, really feeling "an eye for an eye" right about now!
