    Published on Oct 10, 2013

A tractor-trailer stuck on tracks in West Texas was struck by a train that dragged it
a half-mile before coming to a stop. The driver of the rig had exited the tractor
minutes before the train struck in Midland and no injuries were reported. (Oct. 10)

Depends on if there was a mechanical problem with the truck.

the trailer got ''high centered'' on the crossing
the driver could have dropped the trailer and at least saved the tractor

I was thinking the same thing and told DH. That guy is lucky it didnt derail and dump all that load onto his own truck. He was sitting a few feet from the tracks parallel to it.

Guess he won't be doing D.C. tomorrow.

I came into this world kicking, screaming and covered in someone else' blood
and I have no problem leaving that way.

Hope the head end crew of the train is ok. damn that was a hard hit!!
A whole bunch of Obamanauts are about to find out that "elections have consequences" One of them is awakening many more of us to the clear and present danger our nation is facing. I will NOT turn my back on our Republic. Those of us who love this Country WILL band together to bandage her wounds and nurse her back to health. This ISN'T Over!!

Yup, that was my concern, too. The folks in the front engine. Yikes. They saw it coming a long way off, but those trains don't slow down without a lot of real estate behind 'em.

If the truck driver would have had time, maybe could have dialed 911 and dispatch might have been able to get hold of the RR. Those guys all have radios and cell phones.

I can't get over how the driver took the time to shut the door and then appears to place his hand on the finder or engine and say goodbye with the train almost upon them. He's RIGHT next to the rig when it was hit. DAMN!

I had one of our rigs stalled on railroad tracks before, and I've had big rigs on the way to our facility bottom out on the tracks before. There was a makeshift shortcut across the tracks into our industrial park and trucks were always getting stuck there (none of mine). The first thing you do is call 911 and alert the railroad to stop any trains headed that way. Then you call a wrecker. If you can't see a train coming there is time to alert somebody, thank goodness we never had a truck hit. I've had railroad dispatchers yelling over the phone, but what ya gonna do?

Dennis and a couple others can tell you if he COULD ACTUALLY "drop" the trailer if it was high centered on the crossing....Different stresses and forces on the 5th wheel and all of that...
'Murica, we had a good run.
