I found it alarming.... in the fact that in an INSTANT things changed forever. That is what I picked up.

I didn't catch that they were muskets, yes those can do more damage. I guess i was just disappointed that they skipped so much of the yrs before ad the meat of what people have to do to truly survive that kind of scenario. Guess i shouldn't have expected that much lol.

We were also hoping for more of the daily survival aspects post-lights out, rather than the jump in years. Bits and pieces seemed reminiscent of other movies/stories, especially "The Postman." We tried not to think 'that wouldn't be there' or 'it wouldn't be that easy' but couldn't help ourselves. Hopefully it'll pick up as it progresses.

I didn't watch it but the blurb told me it would have the OBLIGATORY RIGHT WING MILITIA involved. The good "liberal" guy fighting the bad "fascist, conservative, surrvival type, militia" guy is very much part of ANY movie, or tv series hollyweird puts out. I read "the postman" and it doesn't have the will payton? right wing character in it. It does have a vicious little ex stockbroker though Dennis<G>

I expect this series will continue a long line of anti militia, gun toting fruitcake propaganda Hollyweird has long been known for. So did the bad guys our hero was fighting turn out to be ex survival and romney supporters. he he he

I just got done watching the pilot of "Last Resort" and I think it shows much more promise than "Revolution".

Thanks for the link to "Last Resort", I just watched the whole episode and I would rate it a B+.

With its high-stakes military intrigue and big-budget special effects, ABC's new submarine thriller "Last Resort" looks more like a big-screen summer blockbuster than a TV series. But you don't have to drive to the local multiplex to get a taste of this action: You can watch the full series premiere of "Last Resort" weeks before it airs, exclusively right here on Yahoo! TV.

From "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan, "Resort" stars Emmy winner Andre Braugher ("Homicide: Life on the Street") as Captain Marcus Chaplin, the commanding officer of a U.S. Navy nuclear submarine. When the sub receives a mysterious order to fire on Pakistan, Chaplin questions the authority of the order and is immediately relieved of duty. But his second-in-command, executive officer Sam Kendal ("Felicity's" Scott Speedman), refuses the order as well, turning the sub into an enemy of the state. Running for their lives, the crew sets up camp on the exotic island of Sainte Marina, where Chaplin decides to stand his ground... by any means necessary.

Nail-bitingly tense and surprisingly thought-provoking, "Last Resort" looks like one of this fall's best new dramas; in fact, it's one of our Fall TV Editors' Picks. But don't take our word for it. Watch the premiere and then head to the comments section to tell us if you think "Last Resort" will sink or swim this fall.

Not much. It borrows heavily (steals?) from "The Postman", "Book of Eli", and "Jericho". The whole ending with the lady logging onto a computer powered by the mysterious amulet, and communicating with some unseen, unknown entity was a direct ripoff of Jericho, right down to the character being black. I'll watch it again next week to see if they explain the blackout, but otherwise I see this series quickly descending into the "Falling Skies" pit of suckitude.

Remember "The Event" from a year or two ago on NBC I think?

I made only about three episodes of that turkey.

Wow...that's not bad for a network pilot. I've always liked Andre Braugher and Robert Patrick, though IMDB doesn't even list him in the cast. It'll be interesting to see if it goes anywhere.

    Let the mind-control, brainwashing begin.

They couldn't have a show like Jericho...too patriotic, so they have to demonize the people who are called the MILITIA. They had to make sure anyone watching knows the Militia = BAD.

What guns? Where did they go? it leads you to believe they must have turned them in when they were told to, like good little citizens.

I was very dissapointed with the show for that reason...oh and everything is for the good of the common (communistic thinking, communal gardening.)

Yea, the powers that be at NBC decided to undo the patriotic theme they had going with Jericho... and go more along the lines of patriotism to whoever is running the country.

Yes I'm watching all of these types of shows with the mindset of what are they really saying and what are they telling us without really telling us? Seriously I've read and heard so much about power going out the past couple of months and now a show on network TV about it going out and staying out? My husband had a premonition a few weeks ago that the power across the U.S. was going out. That was going to be the trigger. Who knows. He's not a prophet or anything but all of these stories and shows are making me wonder if "they" know more than they are letting on.

One trend that I've been noticing is that anytime there is someone in a leadership position, whether they are good or bad, they are black. Just a statement. In this show both the militia guy and the woman with the amulet are both black. A lot of other shows are the same. Grey's anatomy head of surgery. Private Practice the couple that started and owns the practice. I don't watch a ton of TV but what I do watch seems to be heavy in that area. Just my opinion.

    Me too.

Andre Braugher is probably my favorite black actor, with Denzel W. a close second after having made Man on Fire.

I was a regular fan of Homicide: Life on the Street and have been a fan of Braugher's ever since. His character was the very definition of "intense" and he played it to the hilt.

A couple of unrealistic things that bugged me about Last Resort: They showed the Trident missile flying over DC as though it was still under the power of its rocket motor (1) and going at about the speed of a cruise missile instead of a ballistic missile (2) and they showed its profile as though it was a cruise missle, when at that stage of its flight it would've been nothing but the reentry vehicle or warhead and all you'd see was a streak of light (if that) hauling ass like an asteroid coming through earth's atmosphere (3). I also found it very unbelievable that the sub hit bottom (which was later developed in the story as being beyond its rated crush depth) as hard as it did at that depth and didn't bust all to pieces.

I can overlook little stuff like that because I think the show has promise. Two main things I'm wondering are 1) what are they going to get into dealing with the black thug that kidnapped the two sailors, and 2) what's going to happen with that SEAL wigging out over his guilt about the nuking of Pakistan.

There is always room for a good story about submarines.

Every decade or so the demand builds up and then the right movie/show comes around.

Here are some I recall enjoying,

Crash Dive 1943 — fictional USS Corsair

Above Us the Waves 1955 — Royal Navy midget submarines v. Tirpitz

The Enemy Below 1957 — US Action-Drama directed by Dick Powell depicting duel between American destroyer escort & German U-boat in South Atlantic

Run Silent, Run Deep 1958 — fictional USS Nerka (which loosely shares plot elements and the villain destroyer captain, Bungo Pete, with Edward L. Beach's novel, but not much of the plot)

    Das Boot 1981 —U-96

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea 1961 — Adventure-SciFi directed by Irwin Allen depicting fictional USOS Seaview; remade in 1964 TV series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea

    The Bedford Incident 1965

The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming 1966 — US Comedy directed by Norman Jewison depicting fictional Soviet submarine Ñïðóò; AKA The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!

The Hunt for Red October 1990 — fictional Red October (Êðàñíûé Îêòÿáðü), fictional V.K. Konovalov (Â. Ê. Êîíîâàëîâ), USS Dallas (SSN-700), DSRV-1 Mystic

BTW - I have been on the U-505 and the USS Cobray. Pretty neat!

I watched "Revolution" online last night and gave up after the first commercial.

Doesn't seem compelling at all, just strange and hokey.

"Last Resort" came smoking right out of the gate and punched you right in the face.

    Much more compelling.

I also like the scene with the SEAL in the bar who was just trying to get drunk and what he said to the guy that came up to him and told him that "This is my island".

Good analysis. It's just a sitcom with various personalities surrounded by a fantasy background.
    Good point on electric fields.
We and any animal with a nervous system wouldn't work without electric fields.
Hell without electrical potential differences no multicellular organisms would work.
But since the show is based on magic, I guess it doesnt matter.

I am watching Revolution right now. First impression, an environmentalist's wet dream. Electricity goes away forever, things revert to the way they were in 1759.

Anybody watch the Two and a half Men episode where Waldon and friend develop the "Electric Suitcase?" similar concept.

It might be a sifi plot, the 15 years might be for going back in time to show what the characters went through to get to where they are in the begining of the program. During that time the Revolution happens and that is why it has the name. Just a guess. Kinda like Lost. Or a twist on Flash Forward?

oh my goodness... Last Resort is amazing!!! Just watched the pilot, (ad free I might add) now I wish I hadn't because I will need to wait a week and a half to see the next episode. And yes, it is spooky, how close it could be to an actual false flag...

    It's very nearly un-watch-able. It's silly, it's unrealistic, and it's another wandering, peripatetic LOST-fest.

Watched 2nd show on the net. Castle won what to watch on TV.

    My 2 cents:

More naive then the first show.

You do not leave an enemy alive that can come back and kill you.

Fire at night and still no security, and out in the open.

    Charlie would already be dead.

You give up your shotgun then only shot a peon instead of the leader.

One good scene close to the end, finally you shoot without warning, you do not give your enemy a chance.

Still no steam locomotives, give me a break, but a lot off farm fields that look like a tractor planted them.

I wish I could walk as fast as they could, from out side of Chicago to the LA river in just a few minutes.

So far, to me it has gotten worse, but I am very critical when it comes to wan-ta-be shows.

One 10/22 n musket militia would have failed, provided the fellow with the 22 had enough sense to shoot from cover.

And I'm willing to bet most people on this board would still have cartridge firearms only 15 years into it.

Not to mention those who would have liberated some of that ammo that HLS / gestapo et al have been buying up n stockpiling.

and telling me people who survive such a SHTF 15 years are willing to become serfs to some bunch of militia?

Poo POO POO, and I don't mean roses.

And the real complaint: 1 minute of show, 7 minutes of commercial 1 minute of show, 10 minutes of commercial. I bet the whole season minus commercials isn't one hour long.
