Getting Rid of a Google tracking Droid for a RIM Blackberry 9900 Bold

I just dumped a Google/Verizon/Droid and picked up the Blackberry Bold 9900 by Research In Motion (RIM). Every time I look at this thing I get excited, I guess that would be thrilled, about this new Bold 9900. It's a perfect merging of the iPhone/Android technology with the toughness and durability of my old Blackberry 8520.

I wouldn't hesitate to go out in the parking lot and play football with my old Blackberry that thing was so tough. In Blackberry meetings phone companies used to actually demonstrate this by hurling one at the wall and watching it crack up into all it's parts only to snap it back together and make a call with it. Try that with an iPhone or a Droid. Check to make sure it's insured first.

I had an old Blackberry (I think 8520) when the iPhone came out with pinch zoom, better Internet functions, etc and about 3 years ago I impulsively went out and got a Google Droid.

I can't stand the Droid anymore. Every time it finds a new WiFi network it's trying to dump a back up to a Google server. I don't trust Google and their known controllers.

Every time I reboot the Droid I have to see this evil looking ominous red eyeball which is just a constant reminder we're being watched. Of course Apple has it's own "i" (Eye) phone and EyePads. Are they laughing at how stupid we are?

Here's what I found interesting. It seemed like AT&T tried to sell away from the Blackberry with comments like "they're getting so much bad press". They didn't even have one in stock. I had to wait 2 days to have one FedExed in.

All the bad press, I believe , is simply because the Canadian Company RIM is not an NSA operative and the controlled media has been making an all out assault on RIM trying to put them out of business.

I want to add more to this thread later. I have a lot to say about this new Blackberry Bold 9900.

I had all the normal dread of getting a new device and setting up email accounts on it (again) and subscribing to the Podcast feeds I listen to regularly, Nutrimedical, Radio Liberty, AJ, TruNews, and the Power Hour.

I was pleasantly surprised when I set up 4 email accounts and added all my Podcast subscriptions in about 15 minutes.

The look and feel of the Blackberry Bold is curved perfectly to fit your hand and easily slip in and out of the pocket. Not so with a square flat Droid.

And this Blackberry Bold new QWERTY keyboard which is only 6% larger is the easiest to use keyboard on the market. The Droid was so funny about touching the screen exactly right to get the correct letter. A huge PIA to keep backing up and replacing letters you didn't want.

The Droid was also a huge PIA on battery consumption. I had chargers everywhere, in the car, two at home, one on my desk. Charging almost all the time. Any use at all drained it quickly.

My old Blackberry would hold a charge for days. I missed that.

My son is one of the few Americans left at the call center here that handles the Blackberry customer service for Rim. The company owner put all the work in the Philippeans a couple of months ago, so unfortunately, Doc, good luck getting any decent service in the future from people who are not experienced (merely "trained") and who have English as a second language. The few people left here are overloaded, needless to say, which is why my son still has a job. When he wakes up I'll ask him about what you wanted to know, and post it here for you.

I also believe touch screen typing on Droid and iPhone devices is probably responsible for untold car accidents because it's very difficult, almost impossible, to return a text and drive. I know people shouldn't do it, BUT THEY DO anyway.

It almost seems intentional that Droid and iPhone made texting so difficult with touch screen typing to discourage driving and texting.

However, I'd like to see a study on accidents caused while a Blackberry user was returning a text and driving. Their QWERTY keyboard is usable without even looking at it. It's so ergonomic it just feels like an extension of your hand.

Of course, I don't text and drive.

Never mind. I think I misunderstood what you were saying. Good luck with your new Blackberry.

Actually I called AT&T technical support for a Blackberry / PC software issue and got an American female. She sounded like she was in her early 20s, very knowledgable and figured out my situation quickly and in 5 minutes I was off the phone and all was well. She even asked if I minded if she called back in 2 hours to make sure my issue did actually get resolved. I was impressed.

That experience just added to my thrill of owning the new Blackberry Bold 9900.

ATT still has some Americans. I hope you did their little satisfaction survey at the end if ATT has them. My son has quite the collection of Perfects! Nobody else has as many as him.

Really after I get through the first few hours or day of learning curve setup I don't need technical support.

I guess part of my thrill has just been cutting the surveillance teether back to Google. And it's not like I have anything to hide. I just like the feeling of walking away from them. It's a liberating experience. I feel free and a little more secure in my private phone, email, and text messages.

I swear every time I hold this thing and use it I get this thrill like being back home, something familiar and trusted, reliable.

You know...isn't it interesting the Tech Support people have BlackBerry phones? And even more interesting is even though the AT&T store reps were trying to sell away from the Backberry every one of them had a Blackberry device.

    PEOPLE:

FORGET THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA CORPORATE ATTACKS ON RIM AND THE BLACKBERRY. IT'S A PSYOP DESIGNED TO PUT THEM OUT OF BUSINESS.

It's true. My son mentioned the sell-away tactics about a month ago, and was kind of disgusted about it. The customers on the phone were telling him about it.

Spread the word. The Blackberry smart phone should be the resistance phone of choice. This company (RIM) does not need to go out of business. Talk to everyone about this marketing ploy and corporate attack against RIM designed to slander this company.

Just pisses me off every time I think about it.

    I know.

Well, the good part is: none of the customers he talked to switched.

    LOL.

Hope they're paying you for this interesting infomercial! If I planned on keeping my cell and could afford it, what you are posting here is exactly what I'd want to hear, customer testimonials sway me quite a bit because with most products, you're flying blind and with the over priced cheap crap being produced (ah, I miss the good old days of Made in America) in china, it's like a crap shoot to buy anything of quality.

After thinking about this thread last night it occurred to me why I'm experiencing this thrill every time I pick up this Blackberry Bold 9900.

Imagine having a constant companion following you around, 24/7 gathering data on every aspect of your life, AND your entire database/network of friends, family, and contacts. From time to time you notice this "companion" is doing something suspicious. You confront the companion with "What are you doing? Who are you whispering to over there?" And the companion says "What?" "I'm not whispering to anyone over here.....what?.....not me."

You know I really never thought about how uncomfortable I was with that Google Droid relationship. When the trust is gone or damaged the stress level increases.

So when that damn red-eyed, piece of crap, back stabbing Google Droid was turned off....finally....the constant stress of this damaged dysfunctional relationship went away.

The most dangerous people trashing Blackberry, are the people at the top of RIM.

    They need to go.
"If we consider the mistakes in men’s disputes and notions, how great a part is owing to words, and their uncertain or mistaken significations: this we are the more carefully to be warned of, because the arts of improving it have been made the business of men’s study." John Locke.
