Anti-rape device developed in South Africa

I saw this on facebook and I had to go look it up to see if it's legit. Apparently it is and will be on the market soon.

    From facebook......

    OUCH!!
Rape has become endemic in South Africa, so a medical technician named Sonette Ehlers developed a product that immediately gathered national attention there. Ehlers had never forgotten a rape victim telling her forlornly, “If only I had teeth down there.”
Some time afterward, a man came into the hospital where Ehlers works in excruciating pain because his penis was stuck in his pants zipper.
Ehlers merged those images and came up with a product she called Rapex. It resembles a tube, with barbs inside. The woman inserts it like a tampon, with an applicator, and any man who tries to rape the woman impales himself on the barbs and must go to an emergency room to have the Rapex removed.
When critics complained that it was a medieval punishment, Ehlers replied tersely, “A medieval device for a medieval deed.”

The only thing better would be if those barbs were tipped with brown reculse spider venom. May the victim sleep soundly knowing the aggressor was due for a good dose of penile rot in the near future. I say, karma comes around ten fold, and losing your member is deterrent enough.

How does it stay in? Can't the rapist just remove it before doing the deed? I think a pistol would work better and give the woman a target to shoot at at the same time.

    Can't it be both?

Sad to say, but this device will most likely just get the lady killed. Angry perverted men do terrible things when confronted with something like that.

I think it would do damage to both the man and the woman coming out if he did not remove it before the deed.

Maybe just the threat of these will reduce rape kind of like concealed weapons.

They forgot the most important part of the device. The cigar clipper at the entrance to the contraption... V

I don't think the poor women in South Africa can afford guns. The device was invented for them. I think a few nasty critters getting their wee-wees snapped in that bear trap and having to go to the hospital? That's provable rape right there.

A gun, while handy, would only be he said she said if the rape wasn't completed.

I agree. These women will be murdered and the word will get around till nobody dares use them.
Better they should actually punish rapists severely. That would take a complete change of social attitudes toward rape making the rapist a pariah, an outcast, hated by all, filth even in his own eyes. Fewer men would want to do, or suggest doing what would LOWER their status among other men. A sense of SHAME needs to be revived.

If talking about having done such things,or proposing to your buddies to go out to rape women got you dragged with a rope around your neck from a bumper instead of hoots, pats on the back and macho kudos, then the practice would not be so widespread even in Africa.
The same Cross at which I find forgiveness for MY sins I must ALSO look to for JUSTICE for crimes committed AGAINST ME and also against other innocent people. It is where you look to and find PEACE about all the evil and injustice in this world.

Viet Cong women used razor blades on the GI's... Don't worry about the ladies... The guys will bleed out.

    Rapists aren't perverted, merely outrageous.

The culture isn't going to change like that.

That was the first thing I thought about reading the article.

I've seen the info on this before, several years ago. The authorities prevented her from distributing them if I remember correctly.

I wouldn't want it to be my only rape prevention device but I wouldn't mind having it as the weapon of last resort. I always think in terms of layers and that would be the last ditch layer. In the US it would not be expected.
Please, come say Hi! and share your experience/knowledge. I love to learn.

It'd have to be very uncomfortable in the vagina. Like having a speculum in all the time.
