There are things you can do to not contribute to the system. Its a way of going gray or being John Galt somewhat. Please add to the list as you see fit.

Do not give out your social security number. Get a passport, use that for I.D. Don't use your driver's license as I.D. Use it for driving only.

Stop using your credit and/or debit card. Use cash. If you use credit/debit, you are at risk for identity theft, electonic theft, will have no privacy, plus you will go into debt. If you are in debt, you are a slave to them until you pay them off.

Do not own a large luxury house. Rent or own semi-rural land with a comfortable sized house on it. That way you do not contribute excessive property taxes (food for the beast) to the system. Energy costs and taxes associated with that are lower. Do you need homeowners insurance? I don't want to get into an argument here, but usually when you try to collect, they deny. For example, if your roof shingles are damaged in a hail storm and you file a claim, they will say that your roof is over 15 years old anyhow and you will only get a prorated payment (not enough to pay for a roof job).

Do you live in a neighborhood with a Home Owner's Association? If so, get out. Go rural.

Do you really need health insurance? If you go to the emergency room, they have to treat you whether you have insurance or not. I have health insurance, on the two occasions where I had large bills and really needed it, my health insurance provider denied the claim. MF, I am still PO'd about that.

Can you use candles rather than lights? Can you grill outside rather than use the stove? If so, do so.

Get rid of cable or satellite tv and the propaganda, commercials, and taxes associated with that. Get an antenna for your digital tv. When Television was switched from analog to digital, they let everyone think that they needed to get cable or satellite to continue watching tv. Wrong, as long as you have a digital tv or coverter box, you can continue using an over the air antenna. The bigger the better. The internet has its own issues, but it is important now days for the spread of information. With the internet, you can get Netflix and Hulu.com and others and won't need cable. If you need to watch that NFL game, go to a buddies house.

Do you need your own internet? If your neighbor has wireless internet, pay him $20/month for access to his internet connection. Works for me.

Going to the movie theater is a waste of money. Going to luxury restaurants is a waste of money.

Get rid of your luxury vehicle and get a beater that get's good gas mileage. You will pay less in ad volerem taxes, insurance, and fuel taxes. Get a Honda or Toyota - great gas mileage and reliable. Yea, I know they are not made in America, but not union made either (AFAIK). Don't purchase full coverage, get the minimum liability coverage (poor people don't get sued).
Get a motorcycle. Great on gas mileage, great in a traffic jam. Do you need to drive everywhere? Can you catch a ride with a friend, walk, or ride a bike? (Don't take mass transit).
Obey traffic laws. Go the speed limit. I know, you don't like to go slow, but if you get a speeding ticket, it feeds the beast.

    Avoid roads that have tolls.

Do you need a land line and a cell phone? If you have both, you are paying taxes and fees that are used for stupid stuff like free Obama-phones for welfare queens and pimp daddies.

Don't send your kid to public school. Homeschool if you can't afford private school. In public school, your kid will be indoctrinated and will learn to cuss, learn about sex, disrespect their parents, and how to get beat up at an early age. Plus, if you send your kid to public school, the school will get more federal money.

A college degree is not a viable option anymore. You will owe so much in student loans when you graduate that it will take decades to pay them off after you graduate. Go to technical college and learn a trade, or if you go to a liberal arts college, take a couple semesters of math and a couple semesters of English. Thats it, you don't need calculus, you don't need music appreciation, fine arts, philosophy, sociology, psycology, etc.

Supplement your home heat with wood so that you pay less in energy costs and taxes.

Select a home with a septic system and well rather than city or county water and sewage.

There used to be two reasons to keep your money in the bank - safety and interest. Now, interest is near zero, its not as safe as it used to be (your bank could fail next Friday), you don't have privacy, and it is a pain in the neck to start a savings or checking bank account (they think you are a drug dealer or terrorist). If you have a judgment against you or owe taxes to the IRS, they can freeze your accounts or confiscate the money. For bills, keep just enough in the bank to cover them, and keep the rest of the cash at home under your firearm. Pay for bills with money orders. Mexicans do it, African Americans with bad credit and who can't get checking accounts do it.

Do not buy your groceries at a store that requires customer cards. Buy them at a Mom and Pop store with cash. Also, grow your own food. Plant fruit and nut trees now. They take a while to produce.
Can you buy your milk from a local dairy farmer? Can you buy eggs from someone that has chickens? Can you buy meat from a small town butcher shop?

If something malfunctions, can you fix it rather than throw it away and purchase a new one?

Save aluminum cans, save copper and other metals to supplement your income.

Own guns. Get a .22 pistol, a .22 rifle, at least one shotgun, a deer rifle, and another pistol of higher caliber. If you can buy them privately at rummage sales or flea markets, pounce on it.

Don't fly. Drive. If you live in Atlanta and you want to go to Nashville, you get in your car and you are there in 4 hours. If you fly, the flight might only take an hour, but you will spend more than three hours in airports, plus you will have your civil rights violated by TSA workers. (Gas $30, flight $200).

Love your neighbor. Share extra garden produce with them, barter with them, watch their property for them if they are out of town, feed their dog. Share tools. Do both of you need a riding lawnmower? A snow blower? Don't go halfsies on them, just have an agreement, I'll get a snow blower, you get a riding lawnmower, I'll mow your lawn, you snowblow my sidewalk and driveway.

Work for yourself. Start your own business if you can.

Shop at thrift stores and rummage sales.

Take your kids target shooting and hunting. If you don't have kids, take your nieces and nephews, and grandchildren. Seriously, the reason there are so many anti-gun nuts is because someone didn't take them shooting when they were younger. Their only experience with guns is what they see on the evening news and in the movies.

Brew your own beer. Make your own wine. Grow your own tobacco.

Do research. How do illegal Mexicans get by here in the U.S.? How do the Amish and Mennonites get by in the U.S.?
If you are in the stock market, get out. It is a rigged game. The only people guaranteed to make money from the stock market are the CEO's and congressmen or senators. Congressmen and Senators are allowed to engage in insider trading. It is legal for them. (its true, not a conspiracy theory).

When you invest in stock, that money goes to pay the multi-million dollar salaries of the top management and then the corp goes bankrupt and your stock is worthless.

Invest in things you can hold and carry, guns, food.
Get your teeth fixed, get a spare pair of glasses, keep your vehicle well-maintained, buy a whole spare set of tires.
    Earth is bootcamp for eternity.
The Social Security number is a bigger threat to Liberty than Communism or Osama bin Laden.
The advantage to being a pessimist is that you are often pleasantly surprised.

so you want to fight the system?
besides all the previous excellent suggestions i'm surprised nobody included

    going bankrupt. chapter 13.

most of us are on the edge anyways.

think of who your real enemy is:
"Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have."

You don't need a credit card to buy online from Amazon.com and you can get anything from Amazon.

Whenever you've saved up enough change take it to the Coinstar machine at the local supermarket. Instead of converting it to cash, get an Amazon gift card receipt. Take the receipt, redeem the number on it at Amazon using some made up name and you can have it shipped anywhere in the U.S.
After you've checked the coins for junk silver of course.

Changed; I think you left out a very important adverb " Armed revolt is NOT an option." YET !!

    2 points -

#1 - I save a lot of money when buying online. Why should I pay $20 locally when I can buy it online for $15? Not to mention the time and takes to go buy said item. Also, factor in the gas used up in going to purchase this item and returning home. It all adds up.

#2 - I pay no sales tax (most of the time) on items purchased online. Don't feed the beast, right?
When you buy on-line you put local business out of business - unless of course you shop at a big box store.

Anytime you use a credit card or a debit card you feed the beast. Processing fees are scrapped off the top.
Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than a peaky raven?

Ok, I'm a little slow today.
Why use a passport, not a DL?

The driver's license should be for driving only, not ID for other stuff.
Also, there's privacy issues. For most people, their Driver's license has their address on it. When you show the clerk your DL when you buy beer or cigs, they can see where you live. If you are a cute chick, they could come to your house later.
Your passport doesn't have your address listed in it.
About a year ago, I went to the doctor and when they asked for ID, I made the mistake of giving them my DL. The lady slid it through a scanner. Now, they have all of the information that was on my magnetic strip in their computer.
I am not aware of a passport having a strip like that that someone can scan.

Thank you for the reply, and it makes sense.
Had not thought about that darn strip on the back.

    Just FYI...

Only true if you happen to buy the stock during the IPO (Initial Public Offering). Most here on TB2K are probably not connected enough to get a shot at the IPO. Any stock buying and selling activity after that very first day (IPO) is simply between buyers and sellers of the stock. No dollars changing hands for stock sales after the IPO goes to the company or company management itself unless company management is selling their own stock. The day-to-day stock market activity, other than the day of the IPO, is not benefiting the company whose stock is being bought or sold.
