This is unreal. We are celbrating the cool spell in the upper 80's and lower 90's and parts of the US is under a freeze warning. It would be interesting to see how low they did get. All I keep thinking is that in a SHTF situation it would be awfully hard to maintain a substantial food plot.

He's posted today about snow expectations for Shasta, Ranier etc... If you look at the West Coast, it's been below normal for as long as the rest of us have been above.... at least here in the MidWest.

I wish Colorado could get a big fan and point it towards Georgia. Right now we're at 93 but with increasing humidity, and later this week we are supposed to hit 96.

Seems the Rockies are a big dividing line this season as this cooldown has been all year, but then the winter in most of the country was way above average as well... at least here in the MidWest. Meanwhile, the Rockies keep getting summer snow.

You'd think with all of those wild fires that Colorado had just a few days ago, that they would have heated up the area, not cooled it down!!

The upper Klamath CA/OR still has freeze warnings. We had hail today. It was small and only lasted a minute or so.

A couple of years ago I commented to someone that we may see snow in the summer if the earth changes keep getting stranger. They laughed at me and told me I was nutz. Hmmm..

It can snow anytime here in the Rockies. Very hard to grow our food. This year we have had fires and high dry winds every day for over a month. In the morning the sun is orange from all the smoke and the land never looks right because of the smoke. It has to affect the plants and cool things down at night. Always thirsty even though I drink over a gallon of water a day. It is drying up. Bad drought with heat and freezes. Not good. Our garden is up because I water every morning at dawn and sometimes after the sun goes down. Going to go out and cultavate today to losen the soil. Just can grow Mountain foods like root crops and lettuce, amd leafy things but it sure is good.

Bummer BH. Sending some prayers your way for relief. I live close to Lake Ontario so I have the opposite problem. High humidity and cloud cover keeps things wetter than we need sometimes. I had to dig a pond a few years back just to drain some of the water away from the buildings. It worked thankfully. We also "use" to get ample amounts of snow from Lake effect but the last few years and especially last year brought nothing to my area. I'm sure you have done your homework on drought conditions but after reading your post I did a quick search on what veggies grow with little water. I found some interesting links. Here's one if you're interested... http://cmg.colostate.edu/gardennotes/716.pdf

Good luck with your garden and stay safe from those fires!

    Blessings'

Hey! you are talking about where I live! YES it is true that “another Frost warning is in effect. We have had to cover the tomato plants again! The potato farmers are going Nuts trying to keep thier plants from damage.
We are also having one of those “Government Declared water shortages”. So water is suppossed to be in short supply but the farmers need it NOW in order to save thier crops!

Funny, Robert also has an article about how the 'Godfather' of global warming seems to have changed his opinion lately. fair use http://iceagenow.info/2012/06/enviro...ngless-drivel/

Former environmental guru now calls it “meaningless drivel
    by ROBERT on JUNE 23, 2012 · 7 COMMENTS

Ex climate change advocate now believes rising sea levels are not a problem, and that wind turbines are ‘useless’.

On the eve of the Rio+20 Summit, James Lovelock, often called the Godfather of global warming, and perhaps the most prominent climate alarmist for the last 40 years, has attacked the modern green movement – declaring its theories ‘meaningless drivel’.

The Rio+20 Summit, a major environmental conference on climate change, is meant to mark the anniversary of the landmark Earth Summit in 1992.

The summit’s theme is “sustainable development”, the new replacement for”Climate Change”, which earlier replaced “Global Warming”.

They may be using different words, but as far as I’m concerned these would-be tyrants still have the same goal - world domination.
The 92-year-old Lovelock, who claimed climate change would kill billions of humans by the end of this century, now describes the modern green movement as a ‘religion’, which uses guilt to gain support.

‘The green religion is now taking over from the Christian religion,” says Lovelock.

A long-time supporter of nuclear power as a way to lower greenhouse gas emissions, Lovelock has now come out in favor of natural gas fracking (which environmentalists oppose), as a low-polluting alternative to coal.

As Lovelock observes, “Gas is almost a give-away in the U.S. at the moment. They’ve gone for fracking in a big way. This is what makes me very cross with the greens for trying to knock it … Let’s be pragmatic and sensible and … switch everything to methane. We should be going mad on it.”

Go back and read the diaries of settlers from the 1800's and you will find that this weather is anything but abnormal. In fact I do believe Mark Twain stated that if you didn't like the weather just wait five minutes because it was sure to change.

The individual patterns aren't 'abnormal', but the collective ones are. Some areas getting warmer, others colder simultaneously, and that is abnormal and following a trend or pattern that seems to be going parabolic, greater frequency and intensity... teeter-totter effect. Such as:

South Pole Station Sets New Record Low: -100.8°F
by ROBERT on JUNE 24, 2012

    Media ignores it.

According to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, on June 11, 2012, the South Pole Station measured a new record low temperature.

The mercury dropped to -73.8°C (-100.8°F), breaking the previous minimum temperature record of -73.3°C (-99.9°F) set in 1966.

Must be because of global warming!

Remember to keep the individual stats in the framework of the collective long term stats, which points in direction so many charts are showing these days, be it the 'weather' or sun activity. Doesn't the recent decades of temps in this chart look like the recent sun charts?
