    Need prep input/verification

For the last several months it seems I'm being 'told' to purchase camping equipment.

I have no feeling that we will be homeless, I do not see or feel our homes are in danger of being lost. I do have the feeling that we may be without power for an extended period of time.

When I first got the feeling of being told to get camping equipment I thought no problem I'll get a pup tent, loud and clear it came through to go bigger.

I can understand prepping for no power with means of an outdoor shower and cooking, etc. I can not understand why a big tent. A big tent to me would mean staying in place. A pup tent to me would mean possible mobility.

This weekend I got the distinct feeling of 'do it now'.

I'm just not understanding. We are on the outer bands of the NM fault if a massive quake were to happen. Chances of real damage from it would be small. Of course anything could happen.

Camping gear is expensive which would cut into other preps.

Has anyone been 'told' to have camping gear? I just need feedback to get my head straight. Thanks.

No, but I've been "told" to get plenty of other things which seemed strange at the time, but which have mostly ended up making sense.

A big tent could be used indoors, to help keep heat in if you had no other heat (body heat of several sleeping people can add up significantly). It could be used if- God forbid- you had a house fire. It could be used for a quarantine "house" for family who had to travel during an epidemic, or simply for extra housing for family to keep stresses down.

As long as you're not trying to get something of the quality of the "base camp" tents they use for hunting expeditions, you should be able to get one at a fairly reasonable price. If you're a Sam's Club member, check and see what they have...

I have been through this many times, not necessarily for a tent, but similar type prepping.

My advice is to pray about it. Pray that if this is from The Lord, that he confirm it, or make this push even stronger. If it is NOT from The Lord, to take this away from you forever, because you do not want to be distracted from what HE needs you to do.

IF this is from The LORD, do not delay, do it! There were a few times that I got stubborn and refused to do it, and boy do I regret it. It was not a smart thing to do! If God wants you to do it, he will make sure you ahve the funds you need, make sure you do not lack in other areas that he cares about.

I will say though, it sounds just like what I would get... I recently had this about a good EMT kit/first aid/meds... I cannot tell you how relieved I was over the weekend when the last bits finally arrived in the mail! Like a huge burden was lifted!

I keep nagging HIM right now beacuse I want to store more water, more propane, and an emergency stove for outdoors... so far He is not leading me to do so... and after 3 years of setting aside a little bit of food, every time I try to buy more, I cannot. So whatever food I have is enough... (except for normal groceries, of course)

That's my answer, thank you! I've been praying about heat in the winter if no power.

joyfulheart, I do think this is from the Lord, especially this weekend with the 'do it now'. I've prayed for so much - what do I need? - and the response has been a tent, a big tent.

After Summerthyme verified one of the things I've prayed about I have my answer as to why. Guess I better get busy looking around for tents!

    MtnGal,

Read the following which speaks of forthcoming destruction in the NM area. This is not going to be a small shaker. You will need the tent for mobility and for all of your family (evidently):

I might be resurrecting an old thread here, but I've been having similar issues. Twenty plus years in the military, four years as a cop and "normal" life experiences have taught me to listen to that voice. It's seldom wrong. The issue might not be what I anticipate, but that sixth sense is there for a reason. Whether it's God's voice, or my own doing... I listen or regret it later. In the last month or so, that voice is no longer whispering. It's screaming at me. I think, and I could be wrong, that a lot of it has to do with the looming election.

I'm not being told to buy a tent, but food, water, ammo, cash on hand and firewood are heavy priorities. One thing I've found strange is that I'm feeling pressured to go towards revolver ammo, .22 LR, shotgun shells and hunting rifle rounds. That might sound strange, but I have to wonder if there isn't another weapons ban coming. I'm worried that this may be worse than the previous one. It's just a gnawing feeling that won't go away.

With as hot and dry as it's been all summer, and no winter last year, I wonder how bad this winter will be. Firewood is a priority for sure. I'll be up on the roof cleaning the chimney soon.

I know the farmers/ranchers around here are suffering. Livestock (including my horses) have been sold for next to nothing because of the feed shortage. I'm happy to have my chickens and goats and working on increasing my flock/herd. The garden was a total failure this year, so rice and beans are being bought on every trip to town. If we can get a couple more inches of rain, I'll be planting rye grass to get the animals through the winter.

Firedawg- all I can say is that I've NEVER regretted listing to that Voice. I am SO very thankful that we essentially obeyed and did everything we had the resources to do over the past 25 years, because it is allowing us to put every penny into feeding our dairy cattle for the winter, rather than selling 35+ years of blood, sweat and tears at a major loss.

I do need to add a couple more chainsaw chains, an extra bar, and some more bar oil (hubby is getting MUCH better, but he tends to "assume" I have a hidden stash of some things and so doesn't tell me when he's grabbed the last bottle of bar oil or whatever... not a good thing!) and if we possibly can, we've got about $300 worth of repairs/maintenance on the rototiller I want to get done in the next month or two, although we won't be using it much again before Spring.

I'm no prophet and I have no idea what's coming, but I have a nasty feeling that next year's growing season MIGHT not be any better than this year- and if so, it's going to be a huge disaster, and not just for us personally.

I can't do anything about that. But I can make sure that we don't have to worry about whether or not we'll have food to eat, warm clothes, sufficient shoes to let us keep working on damaged feet, and assorted medical and health supplies so we don't have to pay a doctor with non-existent funds.

But most of all, we're depending on the Grace of the Lord, every day. He hasn't failed us yet.

Thank you. I do hope I help some folks here- I've been doing this (farming, living as self-sufficiently as possible and prepping according to God's instructions) for a long, long time now.

I have long since learned to listen to my gut. It's wrong on occasion, but not nearly as often as it is right. I don't know what it is or how it works, and honestly don't care. That it works and is relatively reliable is the important part.

God gave us ears to hear with. Just because "the voice" isn't audible to anyone else but us doesn't mean that we are imagining things.
