IT'S THE TB2K WEEKEND DANCE PARTY - It's the Memorial Day Weekend!
Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, is many things to many people. It marks the beginning of summer, the end of the school year, family trips and gatherings, the Indy 500 and of course it pays tribute to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Using any of those topics as parameters, let’s celebrate the Memorial Day Weekend in music, song, and dance.
The Ground Rules
- Label all videos, don't just throw out a link.
- Any music genre is acceptable.
- Don't knock somebody else's music, your taste may be crap also.
- Label your videos as PG or PG-13 as required.
- Add lyrics or screen shots as you see fit.
- Drink responsibly, use a glass.
"The most intriguing point for the historian is that where history and legend meet."
"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who think they are free."
Somehow one of my favorite Beatles songs "In My Life" seems appropriate for Memorial Day.
Thanks to our vets one and all. This goes out especially those who had their blood shed in service to their nation.
""the music scene has changed radically. No one's selling records anymore. Now it's all Pop Idol and disco bull---- and talent contests; people without much talent being judged by people without much taste"
--Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders -- still keeping it real at age 53.
Memorial Day Weekend is when us Upper Midwestern folk crawl out of our bunkers and shield our little mole eyes from the blazing sun as we finally put our shorts on over our pink legs and incinerate a grill full of brats as tribute to the Sun Gods.
Right now I have a pork roast and buffalo wings in the smoker grill and am hoisting a red, white and blue special edition Miller High Life.
Here's a very strong tune with great vocals that celebrates those who go before us,

--- I'll drink to that Red Baron! I have been enjoying a Heineken today myself. What time is dinner? Pork roast and wings sounds yummy with some cold brews!
I remember the Memorial Day ritual in the midwest when I lived in Michigan. One year, my company picnic on Memorial Day (which was supposed to feature softball and volleyball), was instead celebrated in a freezing park picnic area as we huddled around the grill in our parkas! -- it was 38 degrees with a 20 mph steady north wind that afternoon.

Well, here is one I heard maybe twice back in the early 80's when MTV was new and real.
Good fun song to get you going:
One cannot experience Freedom unless they are off the chain.
"The healthy human mind doesn't wake up in the morning thinking this is its last day on Earth. But I think that's a luxury. To know you're close to the end is a kind of freedom.
"We will not be the ones in History's notes who stood-by and watched as America fell."
Since we are celebrating our guys doing what they are paid to do...and let me add they do well! Let Ackmed see his virgins...
You bring the crowns and heads of conquered Kings to my city steps, you insult my queen, you threaten my people with slavery and death. Oh, I've chosen my words carefully Persian, perhaps you should have done the same.
King Leonidis, 300

Don't piss me off, I might be on your Death Panel.
Remember Why
Blades of Grass and Pure White Stones
Blades of grass and pure white stones
Shelter those who've come and gone
Just below the emerald sod
Are the boy's who've reached the arms of god.
Buried here in dignity
Endless rows for all to see
Freedom's seeds in sorrow sown
These blades of grass and pure white stones.
Blades of grass and pure white stones
cover those who left their homes
to rest in fields here side by side
lest we forget their sacrifice.
Buried here in dignity
Endless rows for all to see
Freedoms seeds in sorrow sown
These blades of grass and pure white stones
Just below the emerald sod
Are boys who've reached the arms of God
Buried here in dignity
Endless rows for all to see

The world has achieved brilliance without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we do about peace, more about killing than we do about living. If we continue to develop our technology without wisdom or prudence, our servant may prove to be our executioner. - General Omar Bradley
