Solar Cooking: Hard-boiling an egg without water

    You’ve probably never thought about
hard-boiling an egg without using any water.
Well, the Sun Oven allows you to do just
that. Simply preheat your Sun Oven, place the
eggs in cardboard egg cartons and let the
    sun boil your eggs.

A dozen normal-sized eggs would take
about 35 minutes, but if you’re cooking the
extra-large eggs, add an extra five minutes.
This method of hard-boiling an egg is
ideal for freshly laid eggs which are difficult
to peel due to the membrane sticking to the
    shell.

Hot air boiling eliminates the membrane
so they can be easily peeled. Give it a shot.

Now this I want to try! I fix dressed eggs ... er ... deviled eggs for y'all not from the south ... all the time for family banquets and holidays. Nothing more annoying that to have a pretty boiled egg go south when the tail end of the shell rips a big ol' chunk out of the white because the membrane stuck.

I tried this when I first got our Sun Oven. It works.

Kathy, I've had good luck with fresh eggs when I steam them rather than boil.

I have an insert steamer. I fill the water in the pot to the bottom of the steamer so I can see a little bit and put the eggs in the basket. Put on the lid and set the heat to 7 or 8. Allow to come to a full boil and steam and reduce heat to 4. Steam the eggs for 20 minutes. They peel easily after cooling enough to handle, and they don't have that green stuff on the yolks.
If you need something, ask God. If you don't, thank Him.
