Read Senator Ron Wyden’s letter on his visit to the nuclear site.
Reads like it was written by someone in a remedial English class. Not very impressive...

One thing I have never heard discussed is Fukushima's vulnerability to a suicide terrorist attack targeting the cooling pool of reactor #4 among other critical areas thus hastening the so called 'extinction-level' release of Cesium, etc the senator was warning about.
Say for example the Aum Shinrikyo doomsday cult which released sarin gas inside the Tokyo subway system back in the 90's was still active. If this group or maybe a foreign 'kamikaze' squad capable of sneaking up to Fukushima in small submarine were commissioned to destroy the cooling pools, we wouldn't have to wait for the next 7.0 earthquake for the real trouble to begin.

I believe HF Comms is spot on in his analysis if things remain status quo over there (cooling continues uninterupted) But what happens if for whatever reason the cooling pools crumble completely ?

While meanwhile its storming, and the smart ones are warning and resisting the government's bridle.
But Ill pay them no mind, it'll get better this time, the liberals have promised this plenty.

Then Japan is in an even worse situation than it is in now [if that were possible] but it still won't directly effect the US mainland without a transport mechanism to eject a large amount of fine particulate matter high enough into the atmosphere to deposit on the US mainland. Without that transport mechanism the contamination will still be local to regional in nature. But that local or regional contamination may make large parts of Japan virtually uninhabitable for generations to come so it's nothing to be sneezed at.
What is the lake of fire? What is it's purpose? Is the lake of fire eternal hell? Is there any hope of escape for those cast into this lake?

    Oh yeah---------

"By these three plagues--the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur that came out of their mouths--one-third of humanity was killed."

And prior to the above happening, one-fourth of mankind is to meet the following fate:

"And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the living creatures of the earth."

So, HFComms---are all the people who are saying that that radiation already IS in California and Alaska and other areas along the west coast---are they all simply mistaken or just lying? Not trying to be cute or confrontational here, just asking for clarification.

So, I will ask this question again... what is the lesser of 2 evils... allowing Fukishima to spew radiation or nuke it?

Nuking Fukushima would be catastrophically bad. You would pulverize the mess and send it into the atmosphere wholesale. Horrendously bad. Nukes are not antimatter weapons - they'll blow stuff into tiny specks, but they don't wipe it utterly from existence. The only matter converted to energy in a nuclear explosion is the fissionable matter in the bomb itself, and not even that is 100% consumed. What emerges from the bomb casing, besides the radiation, is a violent redistribution of energy, just like a conventional explosion, only many times more powerful.

I don't understand your comment....do you mean it was really nuked the first day the disaster happened?
    I lurk, therefore I am.

It's not an either/or situation here. What happens is you get people who happen to have monitoring equipment and they see a reading which is very high to them. They immediately put a youtube video out saying that the Western US is glowing in the dark and were about to have extra appendages grow out of our foreheads. The amounts that have been measured in the US are in the trillionths of a curie levels. That is almost undetectable and barely above normal background levels. But they see what they think is a large reading on their meter and they don't have the knowledge to relate that reading to something meaningful. So for some it's simple ignorance and for others they want to hype it up and have their 10 minutes of fame in the process. The key here is education. We can educate ourselves to the point that we can put these readings into perspective and not waste our time getting bent out of shape over amounts of an absorbed dose of radiation that is many times less than a normal chest x-ray. More important fish to fry and more important things to be concerned about. To attempt to put these numbers into perspective.

    Money Stacks
One way to better understand large numbers is to compare the heights of stacks of varying numbers of dollar bills. The thickness of a single one dollar bills measures .0043 inches or .0000000679 miles.
The height of a stack of 100 one dollar bills measures .43 inches.
The height of a stack of 1,000 one dollar bills measures 4.3 inches.
The height of a stack of 1,000,000 one dollar bills measures 4,300 inches or 358 feet – about the height of a 30 to 35 story building.
The height of a stack of 100,000,000 (one hundred million) one dollar bills measures 35,851 feet or 6.79 miles. This would reach from the earth’s surface to the approximate altitude at which commercial jetliners fly.
The height of a stack of 1,000,000,000 (one billion) one dollar bills measures 358,510 feet or 67.9 miles. This would reach from the earth’s surface into the lower portion of the troposphere – one of the major outer layers of earth’s atmosphere.
The height of a stack of 100,000,000,000 (one hundred billion) one dollar bills measures 6,786.6 miles. A column of bills this high would extend 28 times higher than the orbiting International Space Station.
The height of a stack of 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) one dollar bills measures 67,866 miles. This would reach more than one fourth the way from the earth to the moon.

The levels of radiation detected are equal to the thickness of 7 or 8 dollar bills out of a trillion dollar stack which would measures almost 70,000 miles thick.

Does that began to relate at all here?

And look at it realistically....there is nothing you can do about it anyway unless your willing to live the rest of your life in a cave or abandoned mine somewhere. The reason why we have not received almost anything is once again there is no transport mechanism to get the radiation from over there to over here. The minute amounts detected have been carried on low level prevailing westerly winds from Japan and even the vast majority of those low level amounts are rained out and into the ocean before they make it over here.
What is the lake of fire? What is it's purpose? Is the lake of fire eternal hell? Is there any hope of escape for those cast into this lake?
