Shiro has the “most annoyingly cute” habit. Ever since she was 9-months-old, whenever she is driven in the front seat she always wants to hold hands.

Youtube user ihavehornz must hold the Siberian Husky’s paw or she whines and makes her best “sad puppy” face. The fun begins around :19.

She's not a fan of riding in the car. Dogs yawning usually means that they are stressed or trying to calm a situation. The "hand-holding" is her attempt to get reassurance from her person.

She is worried . The guy might want to assess his driving skills....

I would open the passenger side window six inches and see if the dog would rather stick his head in the wind and sniff the passing air rather than keep sending the "You are driving too fast and scaring me" message.

I think the passenger window is open. The dog shows no desire to stick its head out, which to me means that it's a bit scared of the open window and rushing wind. Closing the window either mostly or fully might resolve the issue.

Hermione doesn't paw me. She shoves her head and some of her neck out the window and "surfs on the wind", even at 50 mph. Her lips flap in the breeze. When we lived in the tundra, in the winter it was too cold for that, but she'd try it anyway, until her nose froze. Then she'd pull her head in until her nose warmed up. Made for VERY cold driving. I don't get to have the heat on when she's riding with me. Ever. If I do, her face is in my ear panting. She's gotta have her beak stuffed in the a/c vent, or as close to it as I allow. She really is a freakin' princess.

Odin fell out a car window as a pup (his owners evidently being too stupid to keep him on a leash in the car when he was at the open window). He's afraid of open windows, at least until recently, when his "big sis" seems to have finally gotten him past his paranoia. Now I usually have one huge furry head sticking out one side, and another on the opposite. I get looks from other drivers, lemmee tell ya...

I wouldn't let the dog ride in the front seat. If the driver had to stop suddenly, the dog would go flying thru the windshield. They make doggy harnesses but I don't know how well they work. When our black lab, Sam, travels with me, I put the back seat down and he has the whole back of the SUV for a play area. But he could still get hurt if I had to stop suddenly.

My labs love to ride. My long haired male, "Cappy" will NOT kennel up unless you shake his paw first.

Mine loves to ri so in an accident she does not snout-punch the dash or windshield.

When I pick the harness up she comes to attention and helps me put it on then goes to the Jeep to go for a ride.

BTW-I would *never* allow my dog tp hang it's head out the window-a bug or pebble or even a grain of sand at highway speeds will blind then.de. She has a harness that buckles in with he seat belt

Exactly what I was going to point out. That dog is stressed.

And yes, it needs to have a harness attached to the safety belt -- in an accident, even if she is not ejected throught a window, she very likely will be killed or seriously injured if the air bag(s) deploy.

eh dogs can be funny/odd sometimes. My old Shepard/Collie mix (we adopted at six months old) loved to ride in the car, but she had the darnedest habit of barking like crazy when we pulled up next to any car that had black people inside. Serious no joke here, it got to be very not funny.

Somewhere on the forum I posted a pic of the inside of the RV, where Hermione and Odin are seated in the driver and passenger front seats. They look just like a married couple traveling the country.
