15 New York City bans mention of dinosaurs, dancing, birthdays and more on student tests

New York City bans mention of dinosaurs, dancing, birthdays and more on student tests

Published March 26, 2012 | New York Post

In a bizarre case of political correctness run wild, New York educrats banned references to "dinosaurs," "birthdays," "Halloween" and dozens of other topics on city-issued tests.

That is because they fear such topics "could evoke unpleasant emotions in the students."

Dinosaurs, for example, call to mind evolution, which might upset fundamentalists; birthdays are not celebrated by Jehovah's Witnesses; and Halloween suggests paganism.

Even "dancing" is taboo, because some sects object. But the city did make an exception for ballet.

The forbidden topics were recently spelled out in a request for proposals provided to companies competing to revamp New York City's English, math, science and social studies tests given several times a year to measure student progress.

"Some of these topics may be perfectly acceptable in other contexts but do not belong in a city- or state-wide assessment," the request reads.

This is why I'm glad that representative or senator or whatever from NY got in on the gun debate...Schumer?

People all around the nation are seeing this-type stuff and then HE gets in and start slobbering all over and everyone just sort of hits their 'Ignore' button.

Seriously-do you really want people from NY and California making up your laws?

I know Florida doesn't and neither does Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada or California. You know-the states that have to actually deal with these monkeys.

there will always be a phrase.........word or even a number in the process of education that will "upset" someone or some group.

A public school system is in charge with educating the masses...............you have no alternative than to educate the public objectively with consideration of the majority of students upon which the system works.........

There is little room for hair splitting of items that would offend some.........

If this cannot be allowed then you will just have to end public education.......

Could you imagine Marine bootcamp training getting to this?

This whole problem is a result of gobalism and diversity within a nationstate where the cultures that are antagonistic towards each other............it doesn't work.

When in Rome do what the Romans do or go back to where you came from......

I think this stems directly from the incedent [[video posted on TB somewhere]] where some black college student went ballistic in class because they were talking about evolution-remember, evolution kills black people according to her.

Democrat administrations will evoke unpleasant emotions in the students--those that think. Can we, thus, ban them too? Please?

Any religion that has a problem with dinosaurs must have a screw loose.
"There are 100 MILLION people who own 300 MILLION guns in this country. There are BILLIONS of rounds in private hands as well. It is a logistical impossibility to overcome those numbers. If 1 gun was confiscated every minute (every hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) it would take 208,333 days to do it. That is 570 years." --JoshInReno

Wouldn't just taking the test itself do this? Better drop testing altogether...

I hope that Fox News got this off of The Onion or something. I fear that actual news is going to surpass anything that the satirists can come up with.

Aren't there a rather large number of teenagers in public schools? Crikey, they can get offended by sunshine on any given day. God help us when times get really tough and these idiots (both the administrators and the sub-humans that rabble-rouse for such BS) are loosed upon us. God help them, really, because they are going to be in for some nasty surprises.
