Tramadol is the pain med they gave me when I broke my foot, so I can say this with complete confidence:

    She looks stoned.

    And that's a good thing.

Great looking dog, Dennis! Glad she's better. I know it's a weight off of you. You've been in my prayers.

She looks really good! Glad to hear that she is eating...that must make you feel so much better! It sounds like she is going to make a full recovery. It's amazing how our pups are like our extended family.

This morning, she ate her "regular" morning food. Well, about half her normal portion. She is also drinking water on her own, and getting up and down from the bed and the couch on her own. She is still very hesitant to come down the RV steps though. She had a calm night and stayed on my bed the entire time. She didn't go out for her 10:30 pm "final potty" though; she just stayed on the bed. I have her off the tramadol for the moment (I gave her a dose after her dinner last night but not this morning). That's not because I want her in pain, but rather, I want to see how she's doing and eating/drinking when she's not drugged. Additionally, getting those 3 pills down her has been a real strain on her while she wasn't eating. I had to shove them down her throat. Now that she's eating again (somewhat), I'm hoping I can stuff the pills in something yummy and she'll just eat them. I'll try that before feeding her tonight. The only thing that still has me worried is that she might throw a clot from her bruised shoulder (or some internal injury that I'm unaware of) and that clot might kill her. Outside of that, I think the worst is over.

Thanks again to you all. It meant the world to me to know that she and I weren't alone through all this. More than words can convey.

Dennis, they sell Greenies Pill Pockets at all the pet stores and some grocery stores. Soft, tasty (I guess) with a center for the pill, you smoosh it tight and the treat goes down easy. Pilling problem solved. I had to use these for my Dads dog.

So glad to hear she's doing better.

Until last night, she showed ZERO interest in any food at all. I had her on milk/water mixture. It would have been impossible to give her something like that because she wouldn't have eaten it. Right now, folding the pills in some Kraft wrapped singles cheese slices has the best chance of success. Later, other things would work, but she still really only wants soft food.

I feel like I can breathe again now that I can see her. She is so beautiful, gentle and loving. Look at that beautiful face!! We have her saved now on our computer too. Thank you so much. And thanked GOD many times over for her wellbeing and yours and Odins too. Now a family photo if you can get someone to take it would be wonderful when you can arrange it. I am so happy to hear Odin is laying beside you getting loved too. His heart must have been very frightened for his best friend and his master both being in harms way. They understand so much more than any of us can fathom. We could never make the tour, but you know you and the pups will always be welcome here anytime. Just don't look at the dust. Tramadol is on my daily menu since breaking bones and concussion. They take the pain away for about 6 hours. Then it does wear off so you will be able to see how she is after 8 hours I think without her pills. God Bless you all. And Dear LORD, we thank you again for our beloved friends and your loving care of them.

I hope she comes around; no fractured ribs or joints?
Not hobbling? No blood, vomit, diarrhea? Breathing ok? Eating/drinking?

Can you gently rub her down and find out if she shows aversion to any particular spot? Heat anywhere? Swelling? She could be badly bruised with some fractures (ribs come to mind). Sorry to hear this. Poor thing.

The vet did a physical on her when I took her in Sunday morning. No rib issues. no abdominal swelling. Her walk wasn't limping, but her shoulder was/is VERY sore. She wheezes a bit when she's walking now (occasionally), but I have a followup exam scheduled for Thursday afternoon. No diarrhea or vomiting.

She wheezes a bit when she's walking now (occasionally),

Thanks for sharing her pics, she's looking good although I know she's still in pain.

She could be wheezing because of being sedentary too long that her lungs aren't getting cleared out well. I'm thinking once she becomes more active they'll clear up on their own. You know how when humans are sedentary too long from surgery we have a higher risk of pneumonia, so that's what I'm drawing my "theory" from. So it could just be normal mucousy build up that will clear with activity.

She is showing so much improvement, and that's the best thing! I'm so glad to see her getting better!

Get one of these Dennis. Cost is less than $10 and I've used one on every dog I ever had to medicate. No more fighting to get the pills down the gullet.

Hermione had a good night last night. I was able to gently massage her hurt shoulder. She had a full dinner last night and a full breakfast this morning. She had a normal poop this morning as well. She also seems much perkier this morning. Shes up and moving around, and going down the steps far better than previously. Unless something very unexpected happens, I consider her out of danger.

My heartfelt thanks go out to each and every one of you who sent prayers or good thoughts her way. And special thanks to Moggy and allmycats.

When this thread 1st was posted I felt horrified and too freaked to post, glad everything is getting better. It's hard for a dog to understand that cars are dangerous when s/he has spent years happily getting into a car for adventures and getting out in a new place means great walks, sniffing, having a good day.

Is Hermione's attitude toward cars any different now?

Too soon to tell, although last night when the pups and I walked across to the neighbors, she went almost immediately back to the RV and lay down by the door. I thought she'd run off and was calling her (too dark to see), but then saw her by the door. She doesn't want to walk on the gravel drive area now without me being right there with her.

BTW, she had a full breakfast and a normal potty this morning. She DID fall off the side of the bed last night right after lights out. I thought she'd panic, but she didn't. I did have to coax her around the bottom of the bed, as she was going to try and hop up on it from the side. That would NOT have gone well for her.
