    9 Hermione was run over tonight - UPDATE, post #147, 275, 353, 394, 466 (pics post #412)

I would appreciate prayers for Hermione. Earlier this evening, a truck was driving through the RV park. Hermione, not understanding about cars, ran out of my yard area and in front of the truck, and was run over and pinned underneath it for awhile. The idiot woman driving the truck stalled it out and was too stupid to put it in park and restart the engine to get it off her. I told the stupid broad ten times what to do, but she just sat there in the driver's seat unable to function. By the time her husband, who was drunk and in the passenger seat, managed to put the shift lever back into park, Hermione was able to crawl out from under the truck. She's in a lot of pain tonight. I'll probably take her to the vet tomorrow, but for now, she's laying next to me on the bed.

I would certainly appreciate your prayers on her behalf.

The people in the truck are lucky I didn't shoot them. I nearly did.

Dennis, you need to take her to the vet ASAP, you don't know what injuries she might have.

There are no vets open in the area. The incident was low speed, less than 5 mph. No blood or broken bones. If she dies, they die.

What a terrible experience for both of you. I wish her the best for a total recovery. Hopefully, it's no more than bruises.

Ack. We have a 24-hr emergency place here. Hope you can take her in tomorrow morning...... there could be internal injuries. Is she drinking water and peeing?

Kitty, she peed a little while ago but I had to coax her out of the RV to do it. Immediately after the incident she wanted to go back in the RV and except for the potty hasn't been out.

She needs warmth and comfort right now....probably still in shock, poor thing.

Oh my gosh! I hope and pray that Hermione is okay!

I would think that you should be able to find an emergency vet service somewhere. Even if there is just someone to talk to. Maybe you can find out from the net what you should watch for and then check on Hermione several times during the night.

Please let us know tomorrow how Hermione is doing!

Prayers for your pup. Let us know how we can help. I know absolutely nothing about dog physiology but surely they would be similar to a child. Is there anything you can give her for he pain?

She is the only reason I didn't suicide back in 2009 when my world fell apart. I can never repay her for the love she gave when I desperately needed it. ANYONE that hurts her is dead f**king meat.

She's met hermione so it bothers her but you got someone to talk to if you need to call us.

Dennis, I think there are some vets on line that you can talk to. If not, try to find out what OTC pain meds (probably NOT asprin) you can give her. Watch for signs of shock, check on line for what those are, and get her to a vet first thing AM. Be sure she drinks water...even giving it to her by hand.

She is laying on one side of the bed with her face in the fan. I have been very calm and soothing to her tonight. I had to smack the hell out of Odin though. The stupid sh*t wouldn't get out of her face. I'm gently rubbing her as I write this.

My vet down here in Hicksville does NOT have an emergency number. Though he was recommended to me by Donald Shimoda, his not having a night number means that I need to find a different vet. I will not patronize a vet that cannot be bothered to care for animals in an emergency. I never thought of Austin as a hick town until now, but evidently, I've given this place far more credit than it deserves.

Keep a close eye on her.

Most likely there are some 24 hour emergency vet services nearby. You may have to drive a ways. My wife had to drive a half hour to our nearest one.

Hopefully, she's OK and feels better tomorrow.

The title to this thread stopped my breathing - everyone on this forum is a foster parent to Hermione so you know there are many, many thoughts and prayers in her behalf tonight. Hope you have all the information you need to get in touch with those people and an address to send the vet bills to.

Things to keep an eye on.....

    Internal Bleeding in Dog Symptoms

    Pale Gums
The color of your dog's gums above the teeth should be a healthy pink. If you lightly press on the gums and then release, the color should quickly go from slightly pale back to pink. If gums lack normal pink coloration, there may be internal bleeding.

    Changes in Respiration
Notice if your dog is breathing quickly and heavily, or panting for a reason other than heat and/or exertion. An alteration in normal breathing rhythm can mean your dog's system is in crisis mode.

    Releasing Blood from Orifices
Observe your dog's excretion processes if you suspect internal bleeding. Often blood will appear in urine or stool, either as a bright red color or dark reddish brown. Rectal bleeding is most common with injuries in the area of the lower intestinal tract. In the case of injury in the region of the mouth, throat and lungs, the dog may vomit blood. In some cases, a dog may exhale blood from her nostrils.

    Lethargy
Do not ignore a sudden change in your animal's energy level. If a dog--especially one which is normally eager to go outside and play--seems reluctant to walk, look for other signs of internal bleeding.

    Low Body Temperature
Use a rectal thermometer to take your pet's temperature. Normal canine temperature ranges from 100 to 102.5 degrees F. If your dog's temperature dips below 100 degrees, this is a serious symptom of distress.

    Other Symptoms
Other signs of internal bleeding include bruising and/or swelling of the affected region of the body, excessive thirst, anxiety and nausea. If your dog has had any injury, be on the lookout for these symptoms for up to two weeks after the accident. Since internal bleeding can also occur with certain illnesses, being a responsible dog owner means always being attentive to changes in your dog's body and behavior. If you suspect your dog has internal bleeding, contact a veterinarian immediately.
