7 Brooms mysteriously standing on their own after Tornado's come through!!!

I can now verify it can be done. Last night at the station it was slow. Nothing to do everyones been talking on face book about how after the tornado's came through a broom will stand up on its own because of the pressures. LOL No I dont believe that crap but.....No strings attached!!!!

I've had my broom for almost 15 years. There is no way that I could get it to stand up on it's own. I'm just glad that it's still able to sweep the floor.s

Same here - I tried it yesterday and lo it's still standing on its own mid-room. Had to put a sticky on it in case someone walks in and freaks :^D

Yep, everyone around here has been taking pics of their brooms standing up - but they are claiming its because of planetary alignment. Had an extra teen here last night and he did it with our broom. No tornadoes around here though, thank the Lord!

DS and his girlfriend did this same thing on Friday...not tornados had gone through that I am aware of. I thought they photoshopped the pic but they said nope.

For some reason, I can't get the pic to post.

People were doing it here and claimed it was the sun spots or whatever that made it possible. I'm glad to see this, I was beginning to think some of my friends were loosing their minds.

It appears to me that the handles of the brooms are touching each other. I think if a person could get exactly the right angle you could keep them upright that way. There is no way the air pressure would counteract the effects of gravity. A fast shutter speed would stop them as they fell anyway. I guess I'm just a skeptic when it comes to such things.

Well, after reading this thread, I went and tried it on my broom. Guess what? It stood up all by itself!

My location is the west slope of the Cascade Mt. range just east of Seattle and up near Snoqualmie Pass.

I've tried this before and could never do it but I did it just now and I wasn't trying to spread out the bristles or anything.

This happened once before around the time oddly enough back in Nov. 2004? I was sweeping all the fir needles that were tracked in from the garage (this is a problem in the PNW, the fir needles get everywhere!) and after I was done sweeping them into a heap, I let go of the broom misjudgeing where the wall was behind me as I was in a hurry to go get the vacuum cleaner. When I came back, I saw that the broom wasn't even close to the wall. It was standing all by it's lonesome. Pretty weird.

I just took a pic on my cell phone to show my sister tomorrow and a vid where I panned up and down the broom to prove I didn't spread the bristles out.

I have often wondered back then on exactly why the broom stood up by itself and the only thing I could think of was that after all that sweeping, the bristles built up a good static charge and with the handle being metal, maybe it had some type of magnetic action going on, some type of small 'field effect' around it?

But seeing that there was a very strong magnetic storm back in Nov. of '04 and one just happened, the atmosphere must be pretty charged up and this may be why brooms all over the place are standing by themselves right now? It's a thought...

I just thought of something, this reminds me of the Oregon Vortex which I've read about but have never been too. It's in Gold Hill, Or. Here is a link to the place. http://www.oregonvortex.com/science.htm

They have a neat explaination for the effect. V

Edited to add... I just googled 'oregon vortex broom standing by itself' and found a link with a pic of one doing what all of ours is doing right now. Check it out! http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/29062

I was skeptical also until I did it! I thought what a load of hogwash. I didn't do not once, twice, but 3 times.

Just couldn't get the mop to stay up. I work again tuesday will video for the nasayers. But I promise you this I would never ever put my mothers life in jeopardy if it wasn't true!

I was totally a skeptic too, until they did it here at my house last night. I don't know why it stands, but it does.

3/7/2012 -- Broom stands on its own = debunked as normal transfer of weight

Not trying to spoil anyones fun... but fun stops where real world worries start --- several of my viewers contacted me about this phenomenon... concerned that it may mean something... multiple youtube video makers saying this is a sign of a problem etc...

My viewers are rightfully concerned... asking if we are in a cosmic state of unrest -- or an abnormal equinox -- or a pole shift ..... something that would account for a broom being able to stand on its own... just search youtube for the recent resurgence of this internet video...

I can assure you that a broom WILL NORMALLY stand on its own any day of the year --- due to common physics (transfer of weight) --- the same principle that allows a skyscraper to stand on multiple pylons -- while leaning to a certain degree --- is the same concept at play in this broom.

The shaft of the broom meets the bottom horizontal plate -- which transfers the weight of the top of the broom down the shaft .. across the plate.. and then down the bristles of the broom ...

Fully transferring the weight to ground.. allowing the leaning tower of broom to stand.

As I say in the video.. a broom standing is NOT a sign of a pole shift ---- the only pole shift with this experiment will be the pole hitting the ground after a gust of wind , or after my cat sees a broom standing in the middle of the room!

My parent's broom is a non-conformist, it refuses to stand. My sister & I tried yesterday, no dice; I'd love to have my mom & dad come home to their brooms all upright by themselves.

Here's the pic of DS and girlfriends broom. It was taken with a cell phone. I don't think I buy the transfer of weight theory. Too many of these brooms have angled bristles. Wouldn't that throw off the center of gravity or something?

Now here's a fun thought. All that can do this should go to walmart tomorrow, grab all the brooms and set them up in different places around the store. lol

It's not just brooms, you ought to see how many quarters you can stand on end in a row...

  29. These brooms do not stand up "on their own." You must stand them up and balance them. This is nothing new. Hate to spoil all the fun, but one could do this for many years now. It has nothing to do with tornado, alignments or anything else. It's about balance. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

This is all very cool, but until someone can make a broom actually SWEEP the floor by itself, I'm not getting too excited!

    Loup,
Is this a joke? Are you teasing us? Are those quarters glued together? I don't want to waste the rest of my life trying to stand quarters up on end because I "heard it on the internet."...

    Close.

Pacer Technologies Zap-A-Gap CA+ (Green bottle)
    (Think industrial strength gelled superglue)

I have (ab)used this stuff to make pennies into a five foot tall bridge from one lab table to another. It will glue "re-bent" paperclips, side to end and even end to end, to form all sorts of "desk art".

Whew! What a relief! Can't even make one quarter stand up. Never mind 4 or 5.

Now to rush to the store and find some of Loup's glue! I have finally found something to do with a lot of pennies and quarters.

Would make great birthday gifts for teenage grandson's who know everything...
