ED YOURDON NEEDS OUR HELP!

I surfed over to Amazon.com to check out their posting for Ed's new book BYTE WARS ( http://www.amazon.com/byte-wars ), and what do you think I saw there?

A hate-filled rant, couched as a "review", by one of Ed's many polly-troll antagonists.

So folks, those of you that know Ed and respect him, please drop by there and consider posting a "countering opinion" or review.

God how I hate the trolls....

Can't you complain about a spurious review to Amazon to have it removed? They don't take kindly to trolling on their review sections.

I'd have to read the book, of course, before I could post a review to counter that one.

I'm sure Ed would send you a copy.

You are right about the first review! What a jerk! I think all members should venture over to that link...since the troll is basically describing us as anti-semetic and other ridiculous things.

I have been silent on this for a LONG time.

Ed has had help, in the past.

More specifically, while he has used information that was provided on an internet forum freely, he used this information without consulting the provider or even alerting the provider. Ed did nothing to check with his source to see if publishing his writings would cause any conflicts, or if following up on the information with the originating source might put his provider in a compromised position.

As a result, his track record of protecting his sources as a journalist/writer would is somewhat in question.

I wish him well on all his endeavors, and if it is sound, I'm sure he will be able to defend his position on his own.

His past source was able to...on his own.

Dennis, although I obviously haven't read the book, I did go there and reply to that poster's remarks that this forum is antiSemitic! I don't know if Amazon will post our replies, but at least I tried. I'll go back before I leave work to see if it is posted. Thanks for the alert. This is our "family" he is attacking!

If you haven't read the book and therefore can't offer a "counter-review", you can at least answer "no" to the question as to whether you found that first review helpful.

It takes 24 hours for anything, whether a review or just an answer to a yes/no question, to show up.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what you're referring to. I'm usually pretty careful about checking sources, getting permissions, etc. in the writing that I do. It certainly is possible that I've made a mistake somewhere along the way -- I would be the last one to claim that I'm perfect. But without knowing any of the details, I would have to assume that whatever it is that you're referring to was an innocent oversight or mistake on my part ...

I'm not asking you to disclose the identity of the individual involved, or any confidences etc -- but can you give me enough information so that I can tell whether an apology is warranted, or whether there's a simple misunderstanding?
