McCain-Palin Prediction

I'm just throwing out this prediction my husband shared with me this morning, just in case it comes true down the line.

He said that perhaps picking Sarah Palin for VP is like Bush did when he picked Harriott Myers for Supreme Court. There were a lot of claims about her not being qualified and after a short period, she was withdrawn.

He speculated that (especially with the updated news) that after a short time, Sarah Palin will be withdrawn as VP and that will give the Republicans the opportunity to put somebody like, say, Jeb Bush in the VP slot.

I'm just sharing with you...it has happened before.

Has it ever happened that a VP pick was withdrawn? I don't see your prediction coming to fruition. I am just sayin...

It has Dave.

I don't see it happening with Palin in a million years though, for a lot of reasons. Two off hand are that the Palin pick has excited a bulk of the GOP, and the second is that any VP swap (by McCain or Barak) would be seen as desperation and whomever did it would lose at least 4-5 points permanently, and that would sink their campaign in this tight race.

Larry Eagleton dropped out as VP from the McGovern ticket in 1972 once the media found out that Larry had been undergoing psychiatric care at one point in his life. Dunno if there have been others.

Damn I'm old to remember that.

Never happen. The base is GEEKED and PUMPED about this pick.

We HATED Harriet Miers.

Big difference.

That would piss off every conservative in the universe!!
McCain knows he hasn't a chance of winning if the base stays home, which was highly likely until now.
Picking a woman gives disenfranchised Hitlery supporters somewhere to go!!
Sara just said some pretty nice things about Hillary, which may cement the deal!!
So far, all the Demonrats have been able to do is basically toss insults and accusations, which is typical for desperate Commies!!!

As touching the experience question, if you stop to think about it for a minute, Sara Palin is the ONLY one on either ticket with ANY Chief Executive experience!! All the rest have come from the Legislative Branch!! There's a different skill set required for that job!!
I think running two companies and being Governor of the largest state in the Union gives her a heads up on any of the three!!

In fact, I wish Sara was the one running for POTUS!!!

Not a chance. I cannot count how many people who I know and were going to skip this election who are now energized about her!

naw

just like the conspiracy thoughts of Hillery stealing the convention from Obama. Didn't happen and neither will your plot.

Too many people are already enamoured of Palin, and you can come up with a lil' thing here and a lil' thing there.

She is American to the core, did not grow up in Muslim countries like Kenya and Indonesia, can prove her birth, and has spent the required number of years as an American citizen.

She is going to resonate with far far more Americans on a gut level. Obama got a lot of his steam from pc guilt. And with the press being distracted from him, and the Republicans paying a lot of attention to the danger to our citizens in the Gulf States, I think the majority of Americans are going to keep their eyes on her, and become impressed.

She isn't simply repeating one stupid phrase over and over. She has been in office and has gotten things done.

This was speculated on two days ago. The point being exactly as your husband said.

By all means, put a man in there and get the little lady out of the race and back to the kitchen in Alaska where she belongs......Not tossed out at you, mapwife, but America is still a very sexist nation.

This too shall pass.
My prediction is that picking Sarah Palin for VP will win McCain the race. I am pretty sure he was going to lose otherwise. And I don't know of another VP candidate he could have picked who would have helped him, either.

I remember that too Ross, and I don't feel a day over 12....

She is the pick, and it was an inspired one.

Geraldine Ferraro was just on Fox saying she is considering crossing party lines to vote for McCain/Palin...

Wow.

THAT

is a very big wow. Won't mean much to younger women, but it might mean a lot to the older Hillery supporters. And there ARE millions of them.

On a radio talk-show today, I heard something similar - the Harriet Myers scenario - but not the Jeb Bush angle.

I bet Hillary is having a fit over Palin.

Going to be interesting to follow, for sure. :popcorn1:

Yes, it has happened before, but it was the candidate himself that pulled out, not the party rejecting the candidate.

I do not see this happening to Paulin like it did to Meyers. I also do not see McCain caving in to pressures like Bush and Meyers.

Wouldn't it be REALLY interesting if Hillary came out and reiterated her view that Obama doesn't have the experience... then endorsed Palin?

What a row that would be!

Yeah, it would be. You know, it would benefit Hillary for McCain to win. Stranger things have happened. :D

A more likely scenario would be Obama dumping Biden (or Biden stepping down) for Hillary. And I think that will happen when pigs fly.

Considering Obama is running for PRESIDENT with his lack of experience, how can anyone say anything at all about her experience IMO. In fact, I laughed out loud when I saw an interview with Obama/Biden whining about her lack of experience.

Nahhhh.....

picking Palin was McCain's effort to shore up the far right, ultra-conservative base that put Bush over the top last election. That base was lukewarm at best. He knew that without it, the election was lost.

He did succeed in "exciting" that base as witnessed by his bump in polling, an increase in campaign donations and as witnessed here (at TB2K) by the various polls over the last few days and the enthusiasm of various posters.

The bottomline is that the neo-cons have once again pulled the wool over the eyes of true conservatives. I believe they ( the GOP ) refers to them as sheeple.

 :sheep:
