What I'm loading up on as 1st line of defense against all things bio deadly...

Has No Life - Lives on TB
Other than self quarantining, or until one does so, my 1st line of defense against any
virus or bacteria is loading up on what has kept me flu and sick free for years while all
others around me (relatives, friends and co-workers) have succumbed to seasonal flu's,
stomach viruses, common colds, mysterious respiratory ailments, etc. I'd avoided it all,
and for many of those earlier years, while living very unhealthy; smoking, drinking, 6-8
sodas daily, overworked, stressed out, little sleep, crappy junk food, sedentary, with no
exercise, etc.

I'd mentioned it before, but what I'm a believer in and clinical trials have borne out,
is the 70 year old Diamond V Mills yeast products originally developed as a livestock
supplement. They later spun off a human supplement division under name of EpiCor.

Here's one of the original newsletter stories that really got ball rolling...

http://www.orost.org/Alternatives/0907Walt-noColdsFlu.pdf

I'd bought a 50 pound sack of the animal feed about 6-7 years ago and have shared it
and been taking it ever since, worked out to couple bucks/year for what I've personally
consumed, taking a teaspoon daily.

But, it's even easier, though pricier at about a quarter per day, for everyone to get
same benefit now without buying a sack full, with this OTC product you've probably
seen or maybe even already used...

NTL-05744-1.jpg

And, with above formulation, you get some C, D, Selenium and Zinc, too, but the EpiCor
portion is the real active ingredient in it and if you poke around the net you'll see it really
does and can make a difference in your immune health. Background story is fascinating,
too, here's short version from http://www.epicorimmune.com/what_is_epicor/the-epicor-story/

In 1998, factory employees who worked directly with the yeast culture noticed that over the past years they were not using much sick time. This simple discovery began the negotiations with management about combining unused sick leave with vacation time. Once Diamond V management looked into this development, they confirmed that the factory workers had unusually low sick leave rates. Further investigation with Diamond V's Health insurance provider indicated actual health care claims per person were 40%-60% lower than other companies in the same region.

There had to be something extraordinary happening with the factory workers. Diamond V commissioned a pilot study comparing the factory to the office workers to determine if its yeast culture was having a beneficial effect on the human immune system.

The results showed the factory workers had a stronger immune system by increased Natural Killer cell activity, higher levels of secretory IgA (sIgA) and lower levels of pro-inflammatory complexes compared to office workers that did not come in contact with the yeast culture.

Of course, nothing guarantees protection from everything and there's plenty of other
things we could & should stock up on and do, but, IMO, this yeast product here should
be amongst all of our defenses from future biological threats.

Anyways, buy a sack of the animal supplement version Diamond V XPC and split it
with others, or buy it from ebay sellers in 1, 5, 10 or 20 pound sacks of it, or buy
any of the numerous immune boosting formulations now including EpiCor in them.

Thanks Shane. I don't think there is any such thing as too much medical type supplements. It's kind of like no such thing as too much ammo.

thanks shane

so much of our overall health depends on the health of our mouths and digestive systems

diamond v has a new feed version called xpc ls that is made from non gmo precursors for organic farms

if i can find a feed store around here that carries it i'm doing a big bag of that

otherwise i'll break down and do the epicor

I ordered two pounds in bulk from ebay for $17.00, free shipping. The capsules were much more expensive and I'd just as soon not take the other ingredients listed for them.

You do realize that the lethal effects of the 1918 spanish flu and similar H1n1 variants were most lethal in those with healthy immune systems. The immune systems of those worst affected effectively went into overdrive as a citokine storm, destroying the body while trying to save it. I am not a physician or epidemeoligist, but boosting your immune system could instigate a cytokine storm if you become ill. Anyone please chime in if I am worng.

I'll always risk having a healthy/strong immune system for whatever may come.

I ordered mine last year from Hoagers goat catalog. I packed it in capsules, and gave each of my grown children some. Not one of them caught whatever was going around at work!

I'm looking at getting a 3# bag of this in the raw form. What dosage do y'all take? Do you vary the dosage when faced with additional health challenges?

Like was said in Post #4, is this the same as Brewers Yeast (also called "nutritional yeast)? I take the flakes regularly on rice, toast...just about everything. You can buy a 50# sack from Azure Standard and it lasts several years for our family.

Keep in mind that actual bio attacks can come through many vectors. In addition to direct infection of the population (bacterial or viral spraying), you can have infestation by insects or vermin, mass contamination of the surrounding environment (water, food, or surface), fungi, parasites, and even biological toxins like ricin and botulin. Many of these will partially or fully bypass the immune system. In addition to attempts to boost your immune system, do some research on how you might mitigate some of these other vectors.

I read that just about everyone started smoking by1920, after it was learned that smokers survived the Spanish Flu. Buy a bunch of cigars for preps!

That was my understanding for the Spanish Flu.

That's not the first time I've heard that. In fact, that "might" be the reason I am rarely if EVER sick, (Actually, I strongly believe that.) even during my 10 years driving a school bus.

My question would be, is that since I seem to already have immunities or, incredibly lucky, I wonder if the citokine storm would come into play should I take those particular supplements? (I'll definitely be looking into that link Judy.) Still, I am interested for my non-smoking family members and will be checking that out so thank you for posting this!!!

Hi Shane a cpl of questions, looks like I may be able to get the Diamond V XPC from a stockfeeds in Perth (Aust), seems to be three ranges or types, which is best?
Original XPC
XPC green
XPC LS ?
How do you take it, make up capsules or just a spoonful? as it is bulk and not pills, I will need to know how much to take, like the DE we are taking, we know for instance to only take a level teaspoon
Any other advice will be appreciated
Thanks

Benefits of Fermentation

Fermented foods should always be a part of our diet. Bacteria and yeasts confer so many benefits and we simply cannot be healthy without them. We are designed to work in synergy with microbes.

Fermentation neutralizes plant toxins, making vegetables more digestible.
Fermentation of foods releases trapped vitamins and minerals from plant fibers.
Bacteria and yeasts themselves are replete with B vitamins.
Bacteria in the gut helps to stimulate peristalsis (fecal elimination), staving off constipation.
Friendly bacteria keeps pathogens from gaining territory in our gut, i.e. they help keep us from getting sick.
A mother’s healthy microbial colony can prevent neonatal infections.

Bacteria and yeast assist many of our natural processes, which alone, in a sterile environment, we simply could not mamage. One of modern people’s biggest health problems is the avoidance of fermented foods and the consumption of nothing but dead, packaged foods. Bags of chips, canned food, sodas, and boxed dinners are designed to be sterile. Not only is this an ideal home for pathogens (think food poisoning) but, without our microbial friends, it is also food which is very difficult to digest and assimilate.
