I closed the board to new registrations effective immediately.
I also elliminated LL's total access to the board. She cannot read or post, nor can she now register as someone else (because NO new people can register right now.)
There is a thread on Unks about "Greenspun is dying". Because of that, I expect that there would be a LOT of "rats abandoning a sinking ship" from there. Well, they aren't coming over here, that's for sure.
Perhaps they can open a "New New DeBunkies"....

Don't you have the capability to just hammer a member as soon as you can tell they are being really distructive?

To me it's like saying the prison has been closed up and all prisoners (trouble makers) are let out to go where they please.
Are we going to close down our whole town? Close every shop and church? Not have anymore public places open day or night?
Or do we just leave it all open and shoot the first trouble maker who starts trouble. I say let'em come to town but make sure they leave their weapons at the saloon door! First sign of trouble they get booted.
In the meantime there will be some real good folks to come to town.
(When we had registration shut down before for a similar reason, I had several who e-mailed me wanting to know what was wrong that they could not register.)

Unfortunately, the "ignore" button will not stop a DOS attack, which was one of LL favorite things to do. Ignoring her did not make her go away before, it just made her more aggressive.

One does NOT negotiate with terrorists
This person IS a terrorist. She is not your run of the mill "troll". She has absolutely made bona fide threats against several people, and has made their lives a living hell, both personally and professionally for several years running. Yes, years.
She is as cunning as she is profoundly disturbed. She is also very determined, especially when she feels she has been slighted or thwarted.
Placing her on "Ignore" will not protect you.
Speaking as someone who has dealt with her before, I would strongly suggest that you do not display an Email address in your profile, especially if you are using your primary E-address.
I would also suggest using a certain amount of restraint in the amount and nature of personal information you disclose via this forum.
I say these things out of experience.

To those who are questioning Dennis' decision to ban newbies for a while, he is making the right decision. LL is one of the most vile, filthy-mouthed nutso to ever post on the internet. No one here, including Dennis and the other sysops should have to guard this place 24/7 just because we have a nut on the rampage here. BTW, if she doesn't like your posts, you will become her next mark for stalking.

I wholeheartedly back Dennis in his means of protecting this board. I can remember what a mess LL made of the Greenspun board- it became so trashed that I would just exit the forum. She is ruthless. I am wondering if Jesse hails from back then.....if she did, I can't see her taking such a cavalier view of letting LL post, here.

I do "hail" from back then timewise, but I didn't hang out at the pre-ezboard forum other than to lurk and occasionally post. I've never seen LL in action, nor do I want to.
I'm no "techie" as everybody here knows
, so I wouldn't know how to prevent cyber attacks on the board. My own computer is well protected but then Brian (Wayfaring Stranger) did that.
I spent a long time (well over a year I think) almost exclusively at the Hyatt Site with the occasional trip to Freepers (still do that) and Yourdon's, and Gary North's. Plus we had our own Site to run (which will be up again shortly) so I was pretty busy and didn't post much other than at Hyatt's and our own board.
So, in light of that I am content to support whatever Dennis does since he has previous experience with this "Lady?"
I'm just wondering what anybody gets out of being like that. It must be a lonely life...

Having seen one of the conflagrations somewhat from the sidelines, I have to agree wholeheartedly with Dennis.
Cannot disagree with some of the additional details noted here about what else was happening.
Dennis, you or one of you other Moderators may want to disagree with this thought.
Being somewhat of a packrat, especially insofaras information is concerned, and being a tad mistrustful of the absolute reliability and accessability of computer systems and the net, I tend to save off locally those threads that seem extremely valuable.
Gonna snag one or three tonight, for sure.
If there's ever a time to be grateful for and supportive of Dennis and the rest of the staff of this place, folks, it is now. imho.

She's damage to the max. Here's a current example of how long her stalking and attacking can go on. Poor Decker an Oldie from Greenspun who works for the gov. almost lost his job just recently because of her. He can no longer post to the Internet under his own name which he always used because of her. She's been after him since pre 1999 and is still doing it in 2001. She wrote to the local papers where he works complaining how her tax dollars paid for him to be online, etc., etc., until his job was actually put on the line from her editorials to the editors. Even though he wasn't doing anything on the gov. time it didn't matter. She doesn't forget or give up. She'll stalk and hunt you down if she gets it in her mind too. She's bad news from all fronts.
I will suggest that maybe we could have an email sent to Dennis to register with a valid commercial ISP email, no yahoo or hotmail deals that maybe we could verify and checkout and then let individuals we're comfortable with in... Just a thought... I'm gonna think on this some more and see what I can come up with. But if our only protection is closing down the registration for now, so be it or this forum will suffer a far greater loss than the loss of input from new members...
