Sticky Thread Seeds, Gardening, Livestock, and All!

Mods, could you please sticky this thread for a while? I think we need to have some basic gardening and livestock information available where people can find it quickly and print it off. Summerthyme and others who have at least a few years experience at gardening, livestock raising, and various...

    Newest Gadget - Ropemaking Machine

SO I have been looking for one of these for a few years. But I could not justify the couple hundred bucks that most places want for them. Friend works at an antique store and one came in. Got it for a very good price. These were marketed in the early 1900s to farmers to make and repair rope. ...

    Me and Bully-Roo had a Roo-Off

I like to act like Im taunting the rooster, mainly to gig my wife, but the rooster was paying attention. Yesterday I go outside, and the rooster is on a high board looking at me. I am 20 feet away. I flapped my arms against my side, then stuck my neck out and cocked my head. Bully slapped his...

    Fan Mill

Going to look at and hopefully pick up a small fan mill tomorrow. From the pictures it appears to be complete and in excellent shape. I have had one on my list for a few years ever since I used one at the fair. Much more efficient then the hand winnowing I have done in the past.

    Tapping tomorrow

Tapping the maples tomorrow. About 50 taps. Got the evaporator all checked out, buckets rinsed and taps boiled. Made 10 gals last year and hope to do about the same. Trying a different place. Fellow at work is letting tap his trees. Nice and easy close to the driveway. New pan this year...

    Reusable cleaning wipes

Because of my son, I can't keep bottles of cleaning supplies in easy reach. But I've found that if I have the supplies at hand, I keep things much cleaner. So I've been using a lot of Lysol and Clorox Wipes. Now they are great for messes that need to be disposed of. Like from an old dog with some...

The New Textile Thread (or What to Wear and How to make it when TSHTF)

OK I see a couple of other threads are already here; we may want to do one specifically for knitting and another for weaving but lets start with one and see how it goes. Feel free to ask questions, post patterns and links to patterns/blogs/resources etc - we may also want to start a thread that...

    Leatherworking Tools

I need to make a couple straps for the fan mill I am restoring. I haven't done much leatherworking since Boy Scouts. I can improvise but I figure this is a good opportunity to pick up some leatherworking tools for the future. Looking for a list of basic leatherworking tools to get. Things to...
